In detail: do-it-yourself repair of a down jacket from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Down jacket torn, how to glue it at home?
You can repair the down jacket yourself, if by chance a hole has formed there (a small cut or hot ash got from a cigarette), you can do it yourself.
Such In some cases, it is possible to stick a small patch on the place of damage, since a small piece of such fabric is supplied to each jacket in the "repair kit".
When repairing necessary:
- Align the edges of the hole, remove tousled threads, remove excess fluff with the same tape.
- Then cut off the patch of the required size (the hole should not be larger than the size of the hole, and spread on the edges with colorless glue. For this case, Moment-Crystal glue is suitable, since it does not "turn to stone".
- Let the glue dry a little and carefully place the patch through the hole from the inside. Spread out the patch and press down firmly from above.
- After a couple of minutes, the jacket can be left “at rest” to allow the glue to dry (about six hours). Then you can iron it with a not very hot iron.
The most basic - this is not to confuse the side of the patch so that the color matches. Even if there is no “factory” piece of such fabric, you can use another more or less suitable one (of course it will still stand out), or you can “borrow” it from the jacket itself in inconspicuous places (inside the pocket, under the lining, etc.).
Small Damage can be repaired by applying a patch on the outside.
It is best to carefully sew up the resulting hole, and then close the place of repair with some most suitable thermoapplication. As a result, the problem will be solved and the appearance will not be spoiled at all. For example, for children, you can use reflective elements as an applique.

It is possible to repair the down jacket if it is torn. For this we take a special fabric with an adhesive base on one side. It is sold in specialized needlework and thread departments. A piece of the desired size is cut off and placed down through the hole. Then the edges of the upper fabric of the down jacket are leveled, if necessary, the protruding threads are cut off and all together ironed with an iron.
For reliability, you can sew on an applique or simply overcast along the line of the tear.
The tactics when repairing a down jacket depends on the type of damage. A smooth cut is easier to disguise. A flap of fabric of suitable quality and color is lubricated with glue, applied to the cut, carefully inserted into the hole so that the side with the glue looks out. Tighten the edges of the cut, press down tightly. The flap should be slightly larger than the cut. It is necessary to select glue colorless and necessarily waterproof, otherwise the patch will come off during the first wash.
If the hole has uneven edges or is burned through, then it will not be possible to pull off the edges, you will have to put an external patch. Mask it with a decorative seam or some kind of label.
If the hole is straight, you can simply darn it with a zigzag. The main problem is to match the threads in color. If the jacket is multi-colored, then everything is simple with this, if it is monochromatic, you need to try.
Also, if the edges of the hole are not torn, you can resort to the usual gluing, again, there are difficulties - to pick up a flap of fabric to match the down jacket. If we have coped with the task, there is not much left: to purchase rubber glue, for example, BF-6, stick the flap under the hole and connect the parts.
If the edges are uneven or the hole is too large, I advise you to take the down jacket to the atelier, because if you are not an expert in this matter, it will be too difficult to achieve the ideal.
If the hole is small and even enough, then take the thread to match the color of the down jacket and sew it carefully. If there is a big hole, then you will need a patch to match the color of the down jacket and any super glue.Take a patch, glue the edges of the fabric of the down jacket, attach the patch for a few minutes.
If your down jacket is damaged in such a way that there is an even hole or just a cut, then you can glue it. To do this, pick up a shred of the same tone, and also purchase transparent rubber glue. Give you need to push the shred under the hole, the cut. Then apply glue and smooth.
You can repair the down jacket yourself, if by chance a hole has formed there (a small cut or hot ash got from a cigarette), you can do it yourself.

The most basic this does not confuse the side of the patch so that the color matches. Small Damage can be repaired by applying a patch on the outside.
Although the down jacket is very comfortable, warm and inexpensive outer winter clothing, the fabric does not differ in strength, so it can be easily torn by catching on something. On camping trips, a down jacket can be burned by a spark from a fire or break on thorny branches of bushes.
If the incision is linear, then you can take the same fabric, spread it with glue, insert it into the damaged area, straighten the patch inside, then match the edges of the incision and press it for a few minutes.
The glue should be waterproof, you can use cyanoacrylate so that the patch does not come off during washing. In order to make it less noticeable, it is better to make a decorative seam over the cut.
If the hole is burned through, you will have to cover it with a thermal sticker, applique or a branded label.
If the down jacket is damaged, you need to use glue and a patch.
To do this, you can use such glue, choosing depending on the composition of the fabric AQUASURE, quot; Moment Crystalquot; quot; Supermomentquot ;, quot; BF-6quot;.
Lubricate the surface of the patch with glue and put it in the hole of the down jacket, press it well and let it dry.
Nowadays, a down jacket is a very reliable, practical thing in the wardrobe. And when there is some kind of trouble, then of course we get upset. After all, a spoiled thing is not only chagrin, but also financial costs. If a cut or some other defect in the fabric appears on the jacket, then you can fix it yourself (unless, of course, you have quot; golden handsquot; and they will do everything as it should, and not vice versa). You can insert, so to speak, quot; patchquot; (be sure to pick up a pattern, if required), the necessary fabric will have to be taken from the lining. It is better to purchase the necessary glue in special clothing repair shops. With children's down jackets, everything is much easier, I put some kind of application in place of the cut, and that's it! If your thing has deteriorated in a prominent place, or the gusts (cuts, forgiven places) are very large, then I advise you to take the down jacket to specialists in the atelier.

The specific terms depend on the type of repair. The minimum is 15 minutes, the maximum is 14 days. But you can always agree on an urgent repair of your clothes.
Holes in clothes do not bring joy to anyone. The question immediately arises: what to do if a cut appears on the sleeve of your favorite jacket from somewhere or a cigarette butt falls on the collar from the neighbor's balcony? I don't want to throw away good, albeit slightly damaged, clothes, and there is not a workshop in every city. There is only one way out - to try to repair the thing with your own hands. How to close a hole in a down jacket - you will learn from our article.
Damage is known to be different. With some - you can cope without much difficulty, with others - you will have to tinker and show a fair amount of ingenuity.
Before repairing a hole in a down jacket, carefully examine the thing and soberly assess the size of the disaster. There are gaps:
- in the form of straight cuts;
- in the form of cuts with a small frayed hole at the end;
- in the form of a tan with a small hole;
- in the form of a hole with smooth or uneven edges.
A smooth cut most often occurs where the tissue just burst. Maybe there was a hall or a crease at this place. This is the simplest case, regardless of the location of the damage. The place of gluing, if you do everything carefully, will turn out invisible in any case.
It is much worse if you run into a nail, resulting in a “laceration” plus a relatively even tear. In this case, a lot depends on the place, and you will have to act in one of two ways:
- in an inconspicuous place - sew up or glue;
- if the hole is clearly visible, you will have to mask it.
Important! Holes with even and uneven edges, as well as burn marks, are also eliminated in two ways - patch and applique.
Puzzled how to glue a down jacket at home, prepare the necessary materials and tools. You may find it useful:
- a piece of fabric from a down jacket;
- a piece of fabric of the same color and similar quality;
- a piece of fabric with an adhesive layer;
- glue;
- threads in the color of the fabric;
- sewing accessories;
- tweezers;
- labels or stickers, buttons, short zippers.
Before you glue the hole in the down jacket, try to remember if there was a piece of the same fabric in the plastic bag that is attached to the label. Unfortunately, now some manufacturers do not consider it necessary to sell their products with pieces of the same fabric, but sometimes this is done periodically.
If there was no shred or you cannot find it, then you will have to find a way out of the situation in other ways. Choose a material that is close in color and quality.
Important! It is not necessary to buy a whole cut - you can look at the kits for beginner needlewomen in the store, there are often scraps, including those that are suitable for your purposes.
A very good option is fabric with an adhesive layer. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to match it by color, but sometimes it succeeds. In this case, you do not need glue.
Important! In a completely hopeless situation, when not a single material at hand does not even come close, you can take a small piece from the jacket itself, from an inconspicuous place (for example, cut it off from the inside of the pocket).
If, after a thorough examination of the defect, you understand that it is unlikely that you will be able to do something with it, you will definitely be interested in our articles:
How to repair a cut on a down jacket if you can't sew it up? Need, of course, glue, but not any. PVA in this situation is completely useless. You can easily find a suitable composition. Suitable for repairing a down jacket:
- rubber;
- "Moment 88" or "Crystal";
- "Second";
- acrylic.
Important! The glue must be colorless!
A straight cut is the most harmless option. It can be eliminated in two ways:
How to sew a hole on a down jacket? Like any other long hole with straight edges. Can be used:
Important! This option is possible if there are threads that are ideally suited to the color of the fabric or the stitching, and the cut itself is not formed in the most noticeable place.
- Thread a regular needle so that one end is longer than the other.
- Tie a knot at the long end.
- Withdraw the needle from the seamy side to the end of the incision.
- Sew a few cross stitches very close to each other, grabbing both edges of the cut.
- Sew the main part of the hole with a "goat" seam, with small stitches, placing them almost closely.
- At the other end of the cut, sew a few cross stitches as you did at the beginning.
- Secure the thread and hide the end under the stitches.
If you have a sewing machine (of any type), simply sew a zigzag stitch over the cut, and pull the ends of the thread to the wrong side and secure.
Important! If the incision appears in a conspicuous place, but it can only be sewn up, make a symmetrical imitation on the other side.
If you are deciding how to repair a cut on a down jacket, but you don’t know how to sew at all, well, you will have to eliminate the flaw with the help of glue. Moreover, getting rid of a straight cut is the easiest way.
Important! It is not at all necessary to look for exactly the fabric of the same color as the down jacket - you will be completely satisfied with the braid, and the crepe or satin ribbon.
We start to repair the down jacket with our own hands:
- Cut a piece of fabric that is similar in color and quality - this should be a strip about 1 cm longer than the cut.
- Lubricate the front of the strip with glue.
- Slide it into the cut and straighten it - the edges of the strip should extend beyond the ends of the gap.
- Align the edges of the cut.
- Press the parts tightly together (you can put the iron on top, but you don't need to turn it on).
Important! It is best to insert the flap under the base layer with tweezers.
Do no methods help at all? Dont be upset!

Do-it-yourself repair of a down jacket will take a little longer if a hole has formed with uneven edges. The hole can be eliminated only with a patch:
- Trim the uneven edges of the hole to make them even.
- Remove loose threads.
- Remove excess fluff (this is easiest to do with the most common tape - fluff adheres to it superbly).
- Cut out the patch, which should be slightly larger than the hole.
- Smear the edges of the patch with glue.
- Let the glue dry a little.
- Push the patch through the hole.
- Glue it from the inside and straighten it.
- Press down the parts with a heavy object from above.
- Leave the glue to dry - this will take about six hours.
Important! The front side of the patch is smeared with glue.
You can answer the question of how to fix a torn down jacket at home in a handicraft store. They sell fabric with an adhesive backing. If the edges of the hole are aligned, nothing better can be imagined. You don't need to trim the edges, just cut out a patch that is larger than the hole, and then:
- Place the patch under the base layer, glue side up.
- Spread the edges of the hole so that they touch.
- Iron the entire structure with a hot iron.
How to make a patch on a down jacket if the hole is too big? There is no other way but to disguise it with some decorative element. The patch itself is done in any convenient way. You can:
Important! Since there will be decoration on top, it does not matter at all how the patch itself will look. The hole can be sealed in the same way as a small hole with even edges, and closed from above with a decorative element, but you can also make a classic patch.
First, the applique and the down jacket itself must be prepared:
- Choose a sticker with an embroidery or appliqué that is suitable in shape and size - it should completely cover the hole.
- Prepare the hole itself too - trim the edges, cut off excess threads
- Baste the decorative patch around the edge with a basting stitch.
- Stitch on the element.
Despite the fact that stickers and chevrons can now be seen on almost any part of the body, there are still places on clothes where they will not look very good. It will become clear to everyone you meet that the sticker is not at all a tribute to fashion, but is hiding something. In this case, it is better to mask the gaps with other elements.
In general, a "repair kit" can be assembled from anything. See what you have:
- Velcro;
- eyelets;
- reflective tape;
- braid;
- metal or plastic buttons.
The braid, unlike the sticker, will look stylish anywhere. For example, on the floors, if one of them is damaged, you can sew two symmetrical "patches", that is, two pieces of tape.
Important! Such stripes can be arranged both crosswise and in the form of some kind of pattern - in a word, there are enough options. The braid can be of different widths, matching the jacket or contrasting.
A fashionable and very comfortable item. With its help, you can kill two birds with one stone - to disguise the hole and make your clothes more consistent with the safety rules in the city.
Important! You can really sew it as you like - only on the hole, in different places around the down jacket - but at least along the perimeter.
If you have a long hole with relatively straight edges on the sleeve, chest or hem, you can use a short zipper to match. She may be alone, but nothing prevents you from creating symmetry.
Important! There are other options - for example, pieces of fabric with buttons stuffed on them.
Interesting fashionable options are sometimes born from scratch, when an unexpected element appears in clothes. Maybe you are destined to become the founder of a new fashion for down jackets? For example, if you close the patch with a Velcro label or make an imitation of lacing along the edge of a long cut. Be bold, experiment, and any of your things, even in the most deplorable situation, can serve you for a long time!
Greetings to everyone who looked at my master class.
I continue with the topic of clothing repairs.
Today we are repairing a down jacket for men.
A gust of raincoat fabric in the most conspicuous place - on the back in the center.
Usually, in such cases, I look for a suitable raincoat fabric in the color of the main fabric or companion fabric (gray in this case, like on the sleeves), and make some kind of curly detail, tweak it from above to the place of the rush, or change part of the back or shelf, depending on the location rush.
In this case, let's go for the least resistance. We consider the inside of the jacket.
I liked one of the internal labels with the manufacturer's name, without unnecessary information, black. The size is sufficient to close the gust.
Fits in the side seam of the lining next to the inner pocket.
We will tune this label directly to the rush.
We look where to rip the lining so that it is convenient to adjust, as well as whip the label.
In the photo - the inner part of the jacket, the back, on top - the collar, below - the yoke, which is adjusted to the main part of the back lining, we will rip this seam, since it is closest to the center of the back.
We unpick, not reaching the armholes of the sleeves, about 3 cm.
Consider insulation. This is a down pad made of dense fabric on both sides, if you damage it, then down will sprinkle. In the area of the neck, it would be possible to rip off the gasket by disassembling the collar, then unstitch the stitch on the back that connects the raincoat fabric with the gasket, and stitch the label only on the raincoat fabric, then restore the stitch again and collect the collar - but I will not do this, since the work is very laborious and time consuming.
Therefore, we will adjust directly to two layers, the front raincoat fabric and the gasket.
First, we evaporate the desired label.
To save time, we unpick only the seam seam, do not touch the overlock stitch, but simply cut the label close to the overlock seam.
This is what comes out of the face pad.
Sew the seam that we ripped open to cut the label.
This is what it will look like from the front of the lining.
Then we glue the glue with a cobweb, glue the raincoat fabric directly onto the gasket.
We align the side edges on the label, ironing them to the wrong side, the upper cuts of the labels are usually sealed, so they can not be folded.
We outline the center on the label and the center on the jacket.
We apply it to the back of the jacket.
We have already glued the gap, now you can glue the label (this is done so that during the sewing process, the parts do not move relative to each other).
Customize the label by pulling the lining from the inside of the jacket.
Now you need to stitch the lining.
Since we have violated the initial technological sequence for assembling the jacket, it will not be possible to simply stitch the yoke onto the back of the lining, otherwise the seam will be on the front of the jacket on the back.
Therefore, we fold the back yoke and the back lining inside out to each other and grind with a seam with closed sections.
As you can see, the entire jacket is left to the left of the seam.
Sew at a distance of 1-2 mm from the edge.
Iron the seam, a slightly damp spot is from the iron.
The main thing is that all wet-heat operations can be carried out only through an iron pad (gauze, thin cotton fabric).
A down jacket is indispensable in the cold season, it is a comfortable, lightweight, warm and beautiful type of winter clothing. Now, when down jackets have not gone out of fashion for several years in a row, the variety of their colors and styles will satisfy any fashionista. The fabric for sewing down jackets is waterproof, this is its great advantage, but it is prone to mechanical damage. And many owners of down jackets, faced with such a problem, simply do not know how to sew a hole on a down jacket.
You can also glue the hole with a cobweb tape; it is easy to find in any sewing store. In the same way, you need to choose a fabric to match the color of the jacket, insert it inside the damage. Cover the top with a piece of cobweb, connecting the tear line as much as possible and iron it through a thin fabric with a hot iron. If a suitable patch was not found, you can repair the damage by embroidering a pattern on it with a decorative stitch.
If the hole on the down jacket along the line of damage is uneven, you will have to make more efforts to eliminate it. You can try to sew it up neatly and sew a suitable applique on top. Alternatively, use an iron-on sticker for this purpose.
But if the damage is more serious, with torn edges and fluff falling out, the appliqués won't help. First, you need to remove the excess fluff so that it does not interfere with the elimination of the gap. This can be done with tape, you need to glue the inner edges of the hole with it. Then collect the remaining fluff at the top with the sticky side of the tape. Next, you need to cut out two pieces of fabric in the color of the down jacket. Grease the first piece with the same rubber glue and glue it, pressing the damage from the inside. The second piece is glued on top when the first is completely dry.
To make this patch look the most aesthetically pleasing, you can cut it in the shape of a heart, flower or any other simple figure. Alternatively, on top of such a patch, you can sew a label sewn inside the down jacket.
It’s so easy, without asking for help in the studio, you can sew a hole in your down jacket on your own. A little inspiration and creativity will make the down jacket even more stylish than it was before the damage. The main thing is to follow the instructions clearly and everything will definitely work out.

There are quite a number of ways, in this case, a lot depends on your own imagination, which you need to use as much as possible. In many ways, the method used depends on the size and shape of the hole.
In the most popular ways disposal of damage are:
In order to mask the damage, it is not at all necessary to look for a suitable material, you can use various parts that just close the hole... The decor is suitable regardless of the size of the damage.
As for the decor itself, it will help to close the hole. ribbon.
The tape can be used on literally any part of the jacket. In order for the ribbon not to stand out very much from the general design, you can use several ribbons sewn side by side... In addition, these stripes can be added to the design of sleeves, pockets or hem.
Read also:
For disguise, you can use both zipper and patch... The first option will look appropriate in the place of an even cut, which can be made even larger, while decorating it with a zipper. As for the patches, you can use options that differ in size, style and shape.
Small stripes will look good on the front and on the sleeves of the jacket, while a similar large size decor is best placed on the back, that is, on back of the product... Patches can look like embroidery or pattern.
This type of disguise will only look appropriate on certain models of the jacket. The style is very important, which should be most successfully combined with the design of the selected applique, the color is also important.
Important combination of applique with the age of the hostess jackets, thus, multi-colored animals look completely inappropriate on a classic jacket, or a jacket that belongs to an adult, self-sufficient woman.
Quite easy to sew on, but very difficult to find the right fabric option. It is necessary to correctly choose not only the type, density of the fabric, but also its color.
This kind of hole masking can be how to sew and glue, the method of attachment does not really matter.
The hole can be sealed, the easiest way is to use glue on the cuts, while the edges should be as even as possible. Torn holes are very difficult to glue due to small irregularities that are very difficult to connect correctly. In the case of a loose fit, the hole will be noticeable and you will have to mask it using the other methods listed above.
In order to make the damage less noticeable, and the glued part stronger, you need place a flap under the bottom, the most suitable in terms of color.
On quilted down jackets the hole can be sewn up... Minor damage can be repaired by hand seam, more visible and large-scale damage will have to be sewn in a zigzag.
Zigzag can be used only if there are threads that match the color perfectly. In addition, the zigzag can be applied on more or less even damage that is in the least noticeable places.
