DIY vaz 2107 stove radiator repair

In detail: DIY repair of a vaz 2107 stove radiator from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

The heating system, which uses the heat of the coolant, is responsible for heating the interior of the VAZ 2107. This scheme, recognized as optimal for cars with internal combustion engines, has been used in cars since the middle of the 20th century.

Like any part of a car, a VAZ 2107 stove may stop working. In winter, such a breakdown makes the operation of the car impossible: the glass sweats or becomes covered with frost, which impairs the view. For effective repairs, you need to know well the design of the interior heating system.

The system includes the following components:

  1. Heater VAZ 2107, whose task is to heat the air. The main element of the heater is the radiator through which the coolant circulates.
  2. A fan that directs heated air into the passenger compartment. It is attached to the casing by means of vibration-damping elastic pads.
  3. Heater control system, including the fan button, knobs and heating control system dampers.

The heating system works like this:

Through the grilles on the bonnet, air enters the air intake box located in the engine compartment near the windshield.

In the event of rain or heavy rain, the water separates from the air and flows down into the openings in the box. This allows you to use the stove in any weather, but until the radiator heats up, the air that gets into the cabin during rain will be damp.

The air flow is directed to the VAZ 2107 heater and heats up passing through the radiator. Heating is controlled by a tap that regulates the amount of coolant flowing through. The crane is controlled by means of a flexible rod attached to the control lever.

While driving, the air flow enters the engine compartment and the air independently enters the heater. During a stop or at low speed, an electric fan is used, controlled by a switch that has three positions: "off", "full speed" and "low speed". Reduced speed is achieved by turning on the motor through a resistor that reduces the voltage across the motor winding.

After the radiator, air enters the air ducts and exits through the deflectors, which allow changing the direction of the flow. Warm air can be directed to the windshield and side windows, under the feet of the driver and front passenger.

Control elements of the air flow from the VAZ 2107 stove:

  • Air distribution cover for the fan that regulates the air flow.
  • Levers and handles that change the position of the air inlet covers and air flow dampers.

Before repairing the VAZ 2107 stove, you need to understand the causes of the malfunction.

If the VAZ 2107 stove does not heat and when the heater is on, the air coming out of the deflectors remains cold, the reasons may be as follows:

Another type of breakdown is antifreeze leakage. This is manifested in the appearance of condensation on the windows or leakage of antifreeze into the cabin under the feet of the passenger and driver. The reasons are as follows:

  • Antifreeze flows out through the heater tap. In this case, it can be replaced without removing the radiator.
  • Leakage occurs through a burst pipe. The solution is to replace the branch pipe with a new one.
  • Heater radiator drip. In this case, repairing the VAZ 2107 stove consists in soldering or replacing the radiator.

If antifreeze leaks in the event of a heater breakdown, repairs must be carried out immediately - ethylene glycol contained in antifreeze is toxic and inhalation of its vapors causes serious harm to the body.

To do the job, you need a Phillips screwdriver and a set of keys (open-end and socket).

  • loosen the heater hose clamps located in the engine compartment;
  • remove the hoses from the heater radiator pipes (in this case, a small leak of antifreeze is possible);
  • unscrew the screws securing the rubber seal;
  • dismantle the seal;
  • unscrew the radio panel;
  • disconnect the cable from the valve of the VAZ 2107 stove;
  • using a screwdriver, dismantle the brackets on the fan casing;
  • lower the cover down;
  • remove the heater radiator.

Often, repairing a VAZ 2107 stove consists in replacing or repairing a heater radiator. The repair steps depend on the type and cause of the malfunction:

A clogged radiator can be flushed out with water. Scale on the walls of the honeycomb can be removed using a special agent that dissolves it.

Leaks in a copper (brass) radiator can be soldered. Using a powerful soldering iron and solder, a hole or crack can be repaired. Leaking aluminum radiators must be replaced.

Important: to eliminate a leak in the stove radiator or the engine cooling system, do not use the agents added to the antifreeze - they can cause clogging of the honeycomb of the VAZ 2107 radiator.

Repair of the VAZ 2107 stove completes the assembly of the heater. Assemble it in the reverse order of disassembly. The work has a number of features:

  • rubber gaskets must be replaced with new ones and lubricated with silicone sealant;
  • before assembling the heater, it is necessary to attach the pipes and the tap to the radiator;
  • you cannot overtighten the nuts so as not to crush the gaskets;
  • before putting on the rubber hoses, the outer surface of the metal radiator pipes must be treated with a sealant;
  • after the VAZ 2107 heater is assembled and connected, one must not forget to add antifreeze to the system and check its tightness.

Important: the repair of the VAZ 2107 stove should be carried out in conjunction with checking the health of the engine cooling system components. This approach allows you to accurately determine the cause of the breakdown and reliably eliminate it.

You can improve the VAZ 2107 heater by installing an additional fan to enhance the air flow to the windows. Another common type of tuning a VAZ 2107 stove is replacing the fan mode switch with a button.
