DIY MTZ 82 steering column repair

In detail: do-it-yourself repair of the MTZ 82 steering column from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

To connect the inlet arm of the device, you first need to unscrew the process plug (it is located on top of the safety valve box). The drain hose is connected to the hydraulic tank. Start the engine and, at the rated crankshaft speed, turn the steering wheel to the right or left until it stops. We rotate the handle of the device and set the pressure on the pressure gauge to 5.0 MPa, mark the readings on the flow rate scale. If the difference in the readings of the device when monitoring the supply of working fluid to the distributor and checking for leaks exceeds 5 l / min, the distributor must be repaired.

The pressure at which the safety valve of the hydraulic steering system is triggered is determined by a pressure gauge, which is screwed into place of the technological plug (Fig. 2.3.8).

Rice. 2.3.8. How to check and adjust the response pressure of the tractor safety valve:
1 - pressure gauge; 2 - an adjusting screw with a lock nut

For control, start the tractor engine and, at the nominal crankshaft rotation speed, completely close the oil drain with the handle of the device.

The valve needs to be adjusted in case of low or high set pressure. To do this, unscrew the cap, release the lock nut of the adjusting screw and, holding the steering wheel in the final turning position until it stops, unscrew or screw in the adjusting screw until the required pressure is obtained.

If you find that there are sharp jerks when turning the tractor, then most likely the tightening of the nut of the hydraulic hinged distributor spool has loosened, or the clearances of the steering rods have increased.

Video (click to play).

If the spool nut loosens, the front idler wheels vibrate. It is distinctly felt when traveling at higher speeds. It should be borne in mind that first you need to adjust the gaps in the joints of the steering rods, and only then tighten the castle nut of the distributor valve spool with a torque wrench with a force of no more than 20 N * m. Then it is released until the holes for the cotter pin are aligned.

What are the main malfunctions of the power steering of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor? Let's start with the wear of the worm shaft splines and the sector teeth. Further, wear of the gear rack, wear and leakage of the safety valve. Wear and hydraulic tightness of precision parts (spools, plungers, sleeves).

It is possible that when checking the condition of the hydraulic steering system units of the tractor, such malfunctions will be found that cannot be eliminated by ordinary adjusting operations. In this case, the power steering is removed completely and disassembled for further technical examination and replacement of parts.

How to do all this, how to competently carry out the basic operations for disassembling, assembling and adjusting the MTZ power steering are shown below in Figures 2.3.9-2.3.30.

Before dismantling the power steering, drain the working fluid and unscrew the nut of the pivot shaft 4. And while assembling the power steering, carefully look at the tightening forces of the nuts, the clarity and unambiguity of the alignment of the marks of the pivot shaft, sector and rack, and pay attention to the adjustment of the vertical movement of the pivot shaft.

Assembly-disassembly and other adjustment operations that are carried out during the repair of the power steering are not entirely simple and require the use of a control and test stand upon completion of the assembly to adjust all parameters.

The repaired power steering is being brought to mind on the KI-4896M test equipment. When debugging works, the free wheeling of the steering wheel is monitored with a fixed vertical power steering shaft. The range should be within 4-6 °. Evaluate the work of the hydraulic booster under load at an inlet pressure of 5-6 MPa. The mechanical stress on the steering wheel rim should not exceed 50 Newtons.

Safety, quality of work and driver fatigue largely depend on the state of the steering control of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor. Therefore, the maintenance of the steering system must be carried out especially carefully.

Maintenance of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 steering consists in periodically monitoring the oil level in the power steering housing and replacing it, lubricating the steering drive cardan joints, monitoring the condition of the threaded joints of the steering drive and steering rods, bipod and swing arms, securing the sector, checking and adjustable steering wheel free play.

The steering column of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor must be adjusted in order to exclude possible vibrations on the steering wheel. To do this, turn nut 12 by hand (see Fig. 1) until
the contact of the latter with the sleeve 10. In this case, the gaps in the joints must be selected, Then the nut 12 is turned off one and a half turns and counter with the nut 13.

The oil filter is washed in the following sequence:

Raise the cladding. Disconnect the oil supply line 12 (see Fig. 2) from the cover 11 of the pressure reducing valve 14. Remove the cover, for which first unscrew the two bolts securing it to the body 22, and then, using them as dismantlers, screw the bolts into the dismantling holes of the cover and remove her.

Disconnect the remaining oil lines from the pressure reducing valve 14. Holding the filter 13 by hand, unscrew the pressure reducing valve and remove the drain filter. The filter is washed in diesel fuel. To install the filter, the operations are performed in the reverse order: The filter is washed at TO-3 (960-1000 operating hours). At the same time, tighten the nut 8 securing the sector on the rotary shaft.

Power steering adjustment MTZ-80, MTZ-82

Check the worm-sector and sector-rail engagement, the tightening of the worm nut, the axial stroke of the pivot shaft, the safety valve, as well as the control of the differential lock valve. The “worm-sector” engagement and the tightening of the nut of the power steering MTZ-80, MTZ-82 worm are adjusted in the following sequence. Jack up the tractor so that the front wheels do not touch the ground.

Then loosen the tightening of the adjusting bolt 5, insert the key into the groove of the sleeve 6 and turn it clockwise until the teeth of the worm and the sector stop (while the bipod 18 should
be in the middle position). The sleeve is turned counterclockwise so that it turns 10-12 mm along the outer diameter. Tighten bolt 5. Start the engine and check that there is no jamming in the worm-sector engagement when the steering wheel is turned in both directions until it stops.

If at the same time there are seizures, then it is necessary to increase the clearance in the engagement by loosening the bolt 5 and turning the sleeve 6 additionally clockwise. The effort on the steering wheel should not exceed 30-40 N. Adjustment of the tightening of the spherical nut 30 of the power steering worm MTZ-80, MTZ-82 consists in the correct tightening of the thrust ball bearings 28 to ensure that the ends of the spool 31 are normally compressed by the bearing rings.

The correct operation of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 power steering largely depends on the correct adjustments. Overtightening the nut 30 can cause the spool to skew and increase the turning force. The gaps between the bearings and the spool lead to an increase in the free travel of the steering wheel, as well as to wheel vibrations, since under these conditions the spool can move arbitrarily, accordingly changing the direction of oil flow into one or the other cavity of the piston cylinder

Before tightening the nut 30, the four bolts of the distributor are unscrewed, the cover 29 is removed. The MTZ-80, MTZ-82 distributor is fastened with two diametrically located bolts to the body of the hydraulic booster, placing a set of washers (or a nut) under the bolt heads, the thickness (or height) of which is equal to the thickness of the cover flange 29. Tighten the nut with a torque of 20 Nm ... In this case, the bearing rings 28 must be tightly pressed against the ends of the spool 31.

Then unscrew the nut 1 / 10-1 / 12 of a turn to align the slot in the nut for the cotter pin and the hole in the worm, and cotter the nut. Unscrew the two bolts screwed into the body,
cover 29 is installed in place and the distributor is secured. The “sector-rail” engagement of the power steering MTZ-80, MTZ-82 is regulated by gaskets 24 under the flange of the stop 23 of the rack. In this case, the gap between the stop and the rail 9 should be 0.1-0.3 mm. Checking this gap, you need to squeeze the rail 9 to the sector 7.

The axial stroke of the pivot shaft of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor is adjusted in the following sequence: loosen the lock nut and screw the adjusting screw 10 all the way into the end of the shaft. Then turn out the bolt 10 pa 1 / 8-1 / 10 turn and counter it with a nut.

The safety valve is checked as follows. Instead of plug 1, a pressure gauge with a scale of division from 0 to
10 MPa. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from one extreme position to another. At the maximum speed of the diesel engine crankshaft, the oil temperature in the hydraulic system is brought to 50 ± 5 ° C. In this case, the pressure should reach 8.8 MPa.

If the pressure gauge readings are less, increase the pressure to the required values by slowly screwing in screw 3. After adjustment, screw 3 must be locked with a nut and the cap must be installed.
A sign of a violation of the adjustment of the safety valve of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 hydraulic booster is an increase in the effort on the steering wheel.

The free play of the steering wheel is checked in the parking lot with the engine running. Moreover, it should not exceed 20 °. If the free play of the steering wheel is greater, check
gaps in the joints of the steering drive MTZ-80, MTZ-82 and, if necessary, tighten the nuts for securing the bipod and sector, fastening the swivel levers of the front axles and
steering linkage joints, tightening the worm nut, adjusting the "worm-sector", "sector-rail" engagement and the axial stroke of the steering shaft of the hydraulic booster.

It is necessary to monitor the oil level in the steering hydraulic system of the MTZ80, MTZ-82 tractor. If the oil level is lower than the lower mark on the oil gauge, it is strictly forbidden to work on the tractor. When changing the oil, the filler filter must be flushed at the same time.

After changing the oil, the hydraulic system of the steering of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor is pumped in the following order:

Jack up the front axle until the front wheels lift off the ground. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel at a low speed of the engine crankshaft.
extreme positions 8-10 times (at first slowly, then quickly), without holding it in the extreme positions. Then check the oil level and top up if necessary
up to the top mark of the oil gauge. The distributor has to be removed and reinstalled in case of replacement of its O-rings and flushing of parts.

When installing the distributor MTZ-80, MTZ-82, do the following. Check the presence of O-rings at the ends of the distributor and the position of the spool 31 in its housing.
The spool must be installed so that its end with a chamfer on the outer diameter is directed to the power steering housing. Opposite installation of the spool will result in
a sharp increase in the turning effort.

Install the distributor of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor without an outer cover 29 and attach it to the body of the MTZ hydraulic booster with two diametrically located bolts,
placing a set of washers under the bolt heads, the thickness of which is equal to the height of the cover. Place a thrust bearing 28, a washer with a cone and tighten the spherical nut 30 in accordance with
with the recommendations above.

A sign of correct tightening of the nut is the absence of gaps between the spool and bearing rings and the steering wheel recoil (return of the spool to the neutral position) after
stopping its rotation to the left.

Modernization of MTZ-80 PM installation from Gas-66 (part 1)

Power steering MTZ-82 (power steering) is installed on agricultural machinery in order to reduce the effort of the tractor driver, which he exerts in order to turn the steering wheel. At the same time, the maneuverability of the tractor increases under any conditions in which it is necessary to work.

When moving the power steering of the MTZ tractor, it connects and functions not only when the steering wheel is turned, but also under the influence of the movement of the front wheels, which vibrate due to uneven ground. Together with this, the MTZ power steering affects the other, relative to the turning of the wheels, the side. This has a good effect on the movement of agricultural machinery in a straight line, significantly reduces the transmission of vibrations and other adverse effects from the front wheels.

The Minsk Tractor Plant provided all its Belarus vehicles with a hydraulic booster, primarily in order to make it easier for tractor drivers to operate a tractor equipped with attachments. Indeed, under its influence, a double load is imposed on the front wheels, and the driver has to apply the maximum amount of effort to control such a heavy machine. Power steering MTZ has a built-in hydraulic system, the design of which includes the following main elements:

  1. Distributor.
  2. Dispenser pump and power cylinder.
  3. Rear axle automatic differential lock sensor.

The GUR MTZ design includes the following structural elements:

  1. The body, in which the container is located, where the necessary oil will be stored, and the bases to which the parts will be attached.
  2. A pump designed to ensure the movement of oil in the hydraulic circuit.
  3. A sector attached to a pivot shaft that continually comes into contact with the steering element.
  4. A pivot shaft that has 3 points of support. With the help of it, the turning movement is transmitted to the bipod, which, in turn, is connected to the front wheels of the vehicle.
  5. The rail, which comes into contact with the moving sector, transfers the piston movement to it.
  6. A spool attached between 3 pairs of sliders held by special springs. This element is attached to the end of the steering column worm.
  7. A filter designed to clean the oil moving in a hydraulic system.
  8. A safety valve designed to prevent the desired fluid pressure from rising to an unacceptable level.

The blocking automation system, on which a number of other elements are located (spool, flywheel, sensor, valve and probe), is needed to block the rear axle differential. The key principle of the power steering is to increase the hydraulic force while increasing the resistance when turning agricultural machinery. The resistance that is generated when the machine turns, entails a displacement from the axis of the steering column worm. Because of this, the springs of the sliders are compressed. As soon as this resistance exceeds the compression force of all springs, the spool moves and allows the specialized fluid to enter one of the reservoirs of the power cylinder.

The oil, in turn, changes the position of the piston, and its force, with the help of the rack, enters the toothed sector, with the help of which the rotary shaft rotates. When the resistance generated during the turn decreases, the springs return to their original, straightened position, and the spool snaps into place, thereby preventing more working fluid from flowing into the cylinder. If a situation arises in which the steering resistance does not increase enough to exceed the compression force of the springs, the power steering does not start functioning.

The main malfunctions of the power steering relate primarily to the gear rack, sector and worm. In addition, alteration of the MTZ GUR may be required if the tightness in its structure has been broken or the safety valve has become unusable. If during the diagnostics of the components of the power steering, any malfunctions were identified, it is necessary to figure out whether the usual adjustment of the MTZ power steering can be carried out or the adjustment operations will be insufficient and more thorough repairs will be required.

Image - DIY repair of the steering column mtz 82

To fix a breakdown that affects, for example, a distributor, it will be necessary to remove the hydraulic booster from agricultural machinery and disassemble it. In the future, an examination will be carried out and the necessary parts will be replaced.

Before adjusting or repairing the hydraulic booster, it is necessary to drain the working fluid and loosen the pivot shaft nut.

The converted installation must be put back on the tractor with all care - pay attention to the degree of tightening of the nuts, make sure that the marks of the pivot shaft and other elements fall into place.

On the adjusted hydraulic booster, you can "go" quite far. However, when carrying out work, you should be careful and follow the basic rules for carrying out such work. Otherwise, you can break an important part. If you do not have the proper skills, it is better to entrust the adjustment issues to specialists.

You can ask questions only after registration. Login or register, please.

tell me on the hydraulics of the gur, what is there and how to regulate on the MTZ 82. the problem is in the steering wheel, it does not turn to the right at all, but half to the left. free travel 1.5 turns at the steering wheel. and when I turn to the left, the wheels turn a little later than the steering wheel.

Something has collapsed there specifically. Take off the top cover, look at the nut on the bipod, from below, check the backlash on the slots, it shouldn't dangle! from above also check the sector, see the sector-worm engagement.

it has already done everything. the nut is in place, the splines do not dangle, the worm's engagement sector is dangling, but not critical. I can't quite figure out how this system works and why the steering wheel does not turn.

I had this, I did not turn in one direction
the thrust bearing was broken, in the gur distributor, the front cover must be removed with 4 bolts

the bearings are all intact, the engagement is normal with both the worm gear and the cylinder. no backlash. and what is behind the blocking sensor, what function does it perform? maybe there is a problem in it?

If everything is fine, then check how the steering knuckles, that is, the final drives, if 82, turn.

Now I have disassembled everything, cleaned it, put it back together, the situation has changed, it turns out that it turns almost two turns in one direction, and somewhere in the other 0.8 turns. and the problem with lag remains. the steering wheel is cool, the wheels are a little later. on the go did not try the truth. How many turns of the steering wheel should there be in each direction?

I started with the fact that the wheels began to chatter, on the advice I set the toe-in to zero, although I think where it started, after all, everything was normal. Further, worse, took the wheels to a minus, the free wheeling of the steering wheel became more, then I went pull out the lawn, pulled it out, go home, but he does not turn to the right, to the left as it should, but only lags behind with the turn, the sensations are not clear. By the way, they became in the center (wheels), and to the right somewhere by half a turn (maybe 0, 8 as the author of the topic writes) And then it was as if the steering wheel was resting on some kind of limiter, I thought the steering wheel would tear off. While I was driving home, I was thinking where the hydraulic cylinder piston should go when turning left and right, I decided to start with it. It turned out, as I thought, cut the thread on stock, the gur was still working with a delay, but there was a bumpy while holding the cotter pin on the nut, of course there was a backlash. Now I'll go for a new one.

Image - DIY repair of the steering column mtz 82

I changed my cylinder with a rhinestone, now it's worth a new one, you still need to catch the steering wheel on the road and turn a little in one direction. fingers in the rods, bipod and distributor also put new ones.

Well, the length of the rods is the same? The rail is right? Maybe the teeth are not right? Damn, there are no rods on sale separately .. Not hunting 1600 for a new one.

yes, the rail is on the marks, the thrust is the same. Well, there is a backlash in the rail, is it somehow regulated there?

Yes, it is adjustable by throwing out the gaskets from under the blocking sensor. By the way, do you have an eccentric on the worm? That is, this is where the steering shaft is screwed to the steering column shaft, damn it, it's easier to take a picture ... right now. If it is all the way to the right, then it will turn tight, and it seems as if it does not turn in one direction at all almost. It is necessary to look. Is there a free wheeling of the steering wheel? With this eccentric, you can clamp the spool and that's it.

yes, as soon as I did not twist this eccentric, there are no changes at all. But what kind of blocking sensor, I don’t understand what role it plays?

Under it, there are adjusting shims, the rail-sector gap is adjusted, if from the cab side, then on the left side

Ai damn .. And the distributor as they put it, the nut on it was tightened, I suppose, with a key, the one that cotters? The steering wheel is tight, light?

not, the distributor was tightened by hand with a slight backlash. the steering wheel is relatively easy to turn, only with a lag and few revolutions. Well, I understand that under the sensor there are adjusting gaskets, today I will try to remove the gap. but why is it needed at all. if it is a blocking sensor, does it mean that it must block something? and what and where? and how it works. I also twisted it in different directions. no changes.

The lock sensor controls the rear axle differential lock. The lock is activated from the cab and has 3 positions (automatic cyclic forced) In the “automatic” position, the sensor monitors the position of the front wheels, disables the lock when turning the steering wheel and turns it on when the tractor is moving in a straight line.

how should this sensor be connected? the blocking does not work for me.

Look in this thread https://my.housecope.com/wp-content/uploads/ext/967/forum/selskokhozyaistvennaya-tekhnika/136660 there are pictures and a description of the locking device.

yes, hands will not reach the tractor yet. my brain takes out like a mess. I bought a new one for the tractor, I will try to change one of these days, it may help.

Well then, all that remains is to remove this entire system and put the mountain on.

Well then, all that remains is to remove this entire system and put the mountain on.

If you do not delve into the principle of operation, then the mountain will not help either. Are the marks are all normal? The sector-rail marks are visible through the filler neck of the gur

fine. everything is normal there, but it doesn’t work. as it gets warmer and I will rearrange.

Last week in the forest, my tractor refused to turn first to the left, and then after half an hour and to the right, with a stake and on the move I barely managed to turn the wheels, it’s good at least the brakes work, with their help I got home with grief in half. in a jammed glass in the side bushing. during disassembly with the help of WD hammers, installers and some kind of mother somehow managed to remove the side pin from the pivot (he put a new pivot in the fall, there is no removal in the sleeve). from 5 to 10mm. grease is present - the lower part of the sleeve is all in nigrol, the upper part of the liner did not even have time to dry out and the rubber bands are normal. well in the store it was not available. I came home I checked the hydraulic part with the device, everything is normal, but it turned out to be in the mechanics. For the first time in my life I have come across such crap in more than two decades as a slave oty on technology and with it.

Safety, quality of work and driver fatigue largely depend on the state of the steering control of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 tractor. Therefore, the maintenance of the steering system must be carried out especially carefully.

Maintenance of the steering consists in periodically checking the oil level in the power steering housing and replacing it, lubricating the steering drive universal joints, monitoring the condition of the threaded joints of the steering drive and steering rods, bipods and swing arms, securing the sector, checking and adjusting the steering wheel free play.

The steering column of the MTZ-80, 82 tractor must be adjusted in order to exclude possible vibrations on the steering wheel.

To do this, turn nut 12 by hand (see Fig. 1) until the latter comes into contact with the sleeve 10. In this case, the gaps in the joints must be selected, Then nut 12 is unscrewed by one and a half turns and counter with nut 13.

Rice. 1. Drive of the steering mechanism MTZ-80, MTZ-82

1 - splined bushing; 2 - front shaft; 3, 7 - cardan joints; 4 - intermediate support; 5 - middle shaft; 6 - rack; 8 - pin; 9, 12 - nuts; 10 - bushing; 11 - shock absorber; 13 - lock nut; 14 - steering wheel; 15 - handwheel; 16 - steering shaft; 17, 21 - screws; 18 - intermediate shaft; 19 - steering column pipe; 20 - earring; 22 - the right wall of the rack; 23 - retainer; 24 - spring; 25 - handle

The oil filter is washed in the following sequence:

- Disconnect the oil supply line 12 (see Fig. 2) from the cover 11 of the pressure reducing valve 14.

- Remove the cover, for which first unscrew the two bolts securing it to the body 22, and then, using them as dismantlers, screw the bolts into the dismantling holes of the cover and remove it.

- Disconnect the remaining oil lines from the pressure reducing valve 14.

- Holding the filter 13 by hand, unscrew the pressure reducing valve and remove the drain filter.

- Wash the filter in diesel fuel.

To install the filter, the operations are performed in the reverse order:

- The filter is washed at TO-3 (960-1000 operating hours).

- At the same time it is necessary to tighten the nut 8 securing the sector on the rotary shaft.

Rice. 2. Power steering of the power steering tractor MTZ-80 and MTZ-82

Adjustment of the power steering MTZ-80, 82

Check the worm-sector and sector-rail engagement, the tightening of the worm nut, the axial stroke of the pivot shaft, the safety valve, as well as the control of the differential lock valve.

The "worm-sector" engagement and the tightening of the worm nut GUR MTZ-80, MTZ-82 are adjusted in the following sequence:

- Jack up the tractor so that the front wheels do not touch the ground.

- Then loosen the tightening of the adjusting bolt 5, insert the key into the groove of the sleeve 6 and turn it clockwise until the teeth of the worm and the sector stop (while the bipod 18 should be in the middle position).

- The sleeve is turned counterclockwise so that it turns 10-12 mm along the outer diameter. Tighten bolt 5.

- Start the engine and check that there is no jamming in the "worm-sector" engagement when the steering wheel is turned in both directions until it stops.

- If at the same time there are seizures, then it is necessary to increase the clearance in the engagement by loosening the bolt 5 and turning the bushing 6 additionally clockwise. The effort on the steering wheel should not exceed 30-40 N.

Adjusting the tightening of the spherical nut 30 of the power steering worm MTZ-80, MTZ-82 consists in the correct tightening of the thrust ball bearings 28 to ensure that the ends of the spool 31 are normally compressed by the bearing rings.

The correct operation of the MTZ-80, MTZ-82 power steering largely depends on the correct adjustments.

Overtightening the nut 30 can cause the spool to skew and increase the turning force.

The gaps between the bearings and the spool lead to an increase in the free travel of the steering wheel, as well as to wheel vibrations, since under these conditions the spool can move arbitrarily, changing the direction of oil flow into one or the other cavity of the piston cylinder, respectively.

Before tightening the nut 30, the four bolts of the distributor are unscrewed, the cover 29 is removed. The distributor is fastened with two diametrically located bolts to the body of the hydraulic booster, placing a set of washers (or nut) under the bolt heads, the thickness (or height) of which is equal to the thickness of the cover flange 29.

Tighten the nut with a torque of 20 Nm, having previously unpinned the nut. In this case, the bearing rings 28 must be tightly pressed against the ends of the spool 31.

Then unscrew the nut 1 / 10-1 / 12 of a turn to align the slot in the nut for the cotter pin and the hole in the worm, and cotter the nut.

Unscrew the two bolts screwed into the body, install the cover 29 in place and fix the distributor.

The axial travel of the tractor pivot shaft is adjusted in the following sequence:

- Loosen the lock nut and screw the adjusting screw 10 all the way into the end of the shaft. Then turn out the bolt 10 pa 1 / 8-1 / 10 turn and counter it with a nut.

- The safety valve is checked as follows. Instead of plug 1, a pressure gauge with a scale of division from 0 to 10 MPa is connected to the discharge line or to the valve cover.

- Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from one extreme position to another.

If the free play of the steering wheel is greater, check the clearances in the joints of the steering gear MTZ-80, MTZ-82 and, if necessary, tighten the nuts securing the bipod and the sector, fastening the swivel levers of the front axles and the steering rods hinges, tightening the worm nut, adjusting the worm-sector engagement ”,“ Sector-rail ”and the axial stroke of the steering shaft of the hydraulic booster.

The oil level in the hydraulic steering system must be monitored. If the oil level is lower than the lower mark on the oil gauge, it is strictly forbidden to work on the tractor. When changing the oil, the filler filter must be flushed at the same time.

After changing the oil, the hydraulic steering system of the MTZ-80, 82 tractor is pumped in the following order:

- Jack up the front axle until the front wheels lift off the ground.

- Start the engine and, at a low engine speed, turn the steering wheel to the extreme positions 8-10 times (slowly at first, then quickly), without holding it in the extreme positions.

- Then check the oil level and, if necessary, add it to the upper mark of the oil meter. The distributor has to be removed and reinstalled in case of replacement of its O-rings and flushing of parts.

When installing the distributor, do the following. Check the presence of O-rings at the ends of the distributor and the position of the spool 31 in its housing.

The spool must be installed so that its end with a chamfer on the outer diameter is directed to the power steering housing. Opposite installation of the spool will result in a sharp increase in steering force.

Install a distributor without an outer cover 29 and attach it to the body of the MTZ hydraulic booster with two diametrically located bolts, placing a set of washers under the bolt heads, the thickness of which is equal to the height of the cover.

Place a thrust bearing 28, a washer with a cone and tighten the spherical nut 30 in accordance with
with the recommendations above.

Video (click to play).

A sign of correct tightening of the nut is the absence of gaps between the spool and bearing rings and the steering wheel kickback (return of the spool to the neutral position) after stopping its rotation to the left.
