2) Now that the reducer is removed, take it and lay it on a clean surface, then take a wrench and use it to completely unscrew the nut that secures the bipod to it as shown in the photo below:
3) Then, using a special puller, compress (If this word is not familiar to you, then you can read the word: “Remove” instead of it) the bipod from the shaft on which it is put on, for this, first you will need to install the puller on the bipod as shown in photo, after installation, as a result of screwing in the bolt, which is indicated by the red arrow, your bipod will slowly begin to be removed, and all this will happen due to the fact that the bolt will press on the tip of the shaft (indicated by the blue arrow) and thus the bolt will, as it were, wrap itself in this tip and the bipod in connection with this will be slowly removed.
Note! If you do not have such a puller and you do not need to purchase it, since you do this procedure very rarely, then you can use two hammers and use them to knock down the bipod, for this we rest the tip of the shaft (Indicated by the red arrow) against a wooden block and set after that, two hammers on the bipod, select one of the hammers so that it is of a large shape, you can even take a sledgehammer, and take the other hammer the most ordinary one and after that with a large hammer start pressing on one of the bipod stops, and hit the other bipod stop with an ordinary hammer and so way the bipod will be removed!
In extreme cases, if you don’t feel sorry for the bipod, then it will be possible to cut it off using a cutting machine, but you only need to cut it off in the place where it is fastened to the shaft itself, but when cutting off, do not touch the shaft itself, otherwise it will have to be changed to a new one !

5) Next, take a wrench and use it to unscrew the four bolts (Indicated by arrows) that secure the top cover to the steering gear and after they are unscrewed, remove it as shown in photo 2.
6) Next, grab the shaft on which the bipod was put on and then remove it from the gearbox (it would be more correct from the crankcase) together with the roller that is on it.
7) Now let's move on to the worm shaft, in order to remove it, you will need to unscrew the four bolts that secure its cover with a wrench, and after the bolts are unscrewed, remove the cover that closes the worm shaft and remove in addition all the gaskets that will be located behind the lid (see photo under number 2).
Note! These ball bearing adjusting shims are sold in auto shops with a thickness of 0.1 and 0.15 mm!
8) Then, picking up a hammer (Preferably made of soft metal, and if it is not there, then place another small plank under a regular hammer when you hit the worm shaft so as not to damage or deform the shaft itself with blows from a conventional hammer), gently knock out with the help of it, the worm shaft from the gearbox housing, together with the bearings that are on it.
9) Then, using a screwdriver, remove two cuffs (Both are removed in the same way, so the example in the photo is shown only on the cuff that goes to the worm shaft), one of them will need to be removed that goes to the worm shaft, and the other that goes to the shaft on which bipod is installed.
10) Next, using a punch and a hammer, knock out the outer race of the second bearing as shown in the figure.
Assembly: 1. Basically, all parts are assembled in the reverse order of their removal, and all internal parts are lubricated with gear oil before assembly, in addition, when assembling, you need to know some nuances, firstly, always remember that the bipod on the shaft is installed in only one position , that is, on the bipod, if you look at it, there is a wide groove, this very groove on the bipod should coincide with the double slot that is on the shaft and which is also indicated in the photo below with a screwdriver.
2. Secondly, if you decide to change the shaft on which the bipod is installed, pay attention to the screw head (Indicated by the blue arrow) and the groove that is present on the shaft itself (It is also indicated by the red arrow), so here is the axial clearance between the groove of the shaft and the screw head must be no more than 0.05 mm, so you will have to adjust the axial clearance when installing a new shaft, and it is regulated by selecting the thickness of the adjusting plate.
Note! For clarity, so that you have at least some idea of what an adjustment plate is, it was indicated in the photo below with a red arrow, in total these plates have eleven sizes and a thickness of 1.95 to 2.20 mm, the increase in each size is 0.025 mm!
3.Thirdly, when you install the inner ring of the bearing, it is installed using a pipe segment, that is, a segment of a suitable diameter is found and then a hammer is taken, then with their help and not very strong blows of the hammer, we press the bearing inner ring into the crankcase.
Note! When the inner ring (Indicated by the blue arrow) is installed, then install another separator with balls (Indicated by the red arrow) into it, and after installation, insert the worm shaft (Indicated by the number 11) on which you will then need to put on the outer bearing separator (Indicated by the number 6) and using a hammer (not with strong blows) press in the outer ring which is indicated by the fifth digit!
4. And finally, you will need to install the cover and all gaskets and then press in both cuffs (They are also called seals) with a hammer and a piece of pipe, while one cuff is a cuff for the worm shaft and the other for the bipod shaft, but before put them on, lubricate them with Litol-24 grease or something like it.
Note! When you install the worm shaft, with a set of shims (Gaskets are indicated by the number 4 in the photo above), make sure that the moment of turning the worm shaft is from 2 to 5 kgf • cm, then put the shaft on which the bipod is put on and adjust the gap in engagement by the moment of turning the shaft (This gap should be within 7–9 kgf•cm, and when the worm shaft is turned 30 ° to the left and right, it should gradually decrease to 5 kgf•cm)!
What else, when all the operations are completed, fill in gear oil into the crankcase of the gearbox, up to the lower edge of the filler hole, this is about 0.215 l!

Also, the shaft in the VAZ 2107 acquired bearings, so turning the steering wheel requires much less effort.
The steering column VAZ 2107 consists of a shaft with a swivel joint and a gearbox with a worm gear. Column repair is a very rare occurrence. If timely maintenance of this node is ensured, then it may never be needed. Steering column maintenance includes lubricating the steering shaft pivot, tightening the steering wheel nut, changing the oil, and adjusting the gearbox. Consider possible problems associated with the steering column, and methods for their elimination.
As a rule, creaking occurs due to insufficient lubrication of the shaft parts - bearings or crosses. It is treated by lubrication, does not cause any special difficulties, no repairs are required.
The appearance of steering play can be caused by two reasons.The first - the nut securing the steering wheel to the shaft is released. If you do not tighten the nut in time, the splines on the steering wheel and shaft will be damaged over time, and one of these parts may need to be replaced. The second reason may be the wear of the worm gear. To eliminate this malfunction, a special device is provided - an adjusting bolt with a lock nut.
In order to adjust the worm gear, the nut is released, the screw is turned with a screwdriver until the backlash is eliminated, after which the nut is tightened to prevent spontaneous unscrewing. If it is impossible to eliminate the backlash by adjustment, then the gearbox needs to be repaired and the worm pair replaced.
To prevent premature wear of gearbox parts, periodic oil level checks and oil changes are recommended. Level control is carried out as follows:
Using an 8 key, the filler plug is unscrewed;
Check the oil level with a screwdriver or other object. It should be level with the bottom edge of the filler hole.
If necessary, add oil using a special supercharger until it starts to flow out of the hole.
To change the oil, unscrew the screws securing the gearbox cover, after substituting a container for collecting used oil under it. Since it is not necessary to completely remove the cover, it is pushed aside and the oil is drained. This operation is best performed on a hot engine. Warm oil is more fluid and drains faster. After all the oil has drained out, the cover is screwed into place and a new one is poured into the gearbox in the manner described above.
The device of the gearbox does not allow its repair without removal from the vehicle. In order to remove it, you must:
Disconnect the tie rod ends from the gearbox. First, they are splinted, then the nuts are unscrewed with a 22 wrench and the tips are pressed out using a special puller.
Loosen the clamp that secures the steering shaft to the gearbox.
Unscrew the three bolts that secure the gearbox to the car body.
The device of the gearbox should not cause any particular difficulties in its repair. It should only be taken into account that worn elements, called a worm pair, both change at the same time. After that, an adjustment must be made.
First you need to understand where the backlash occurs, since the backlash in the steering column can be in three places, such as.
Backlash in the steering tips (knocking fingers means they need to be replaced).
Backlash in the steering arm (a working shaft has developed, to find out you need to pull the steering arm itself from under the car).
Backlash in the steering worm (can be eliminated if there is a supply of nuts).
And so you probably already figured out where the backlash occurs in the steering column, but today we will talk about adjusting the backlash of the steering column VAZ 2107. First of all, put the steering wheel in a straight position so that the wheels stand straight
Then, with sharp jerks, pull the steering wheel to the left, to the right (this must be done to understand where the backlash is), after which, unscrew the lock nut on the steering housing (be careful not to damage it).

The gearbox is fastened with three bolts to the body. Unscrew 3 fastening nuts, remove the fasteners and dismantle the steering gear from the car. To make it easier to remove the assembly, it is better to turn the bipod all the way into the column body. The steering gear is attached to the side member of the car with three bolts.
When the mechanism is removed from the vehicle, you can begin to disassemble it.

Oil seals, regardless of their condition, are replaced with new ones.
When the replacement of defective elements has been carried out, you can proceed with the assembly of the assembly. Parts that are installed inside the crankcase are lubricated with gear oil. Assembly is performed in the following order:
Using a hammer and a bit or other suitable device, press the inner bearing race into the steering assembly housing. The inner bearing race is pressed in with a hammer and a bit.
A separator with balls is placed in the cage, as well as a worm shaft. The cage of the outer bearing is mounted on it and the outer race is pressed in. After installing the worm shaft and the outer bearing, the outer race is pressed in.
Mount the cover with gaskets and press in the seals of the worm shaft and bipod.A small amount of lubricant is preliminarily applied to the working edges of the cuffs.
The worm shaft is placed in the mechanism housing. With the help of shims, the torque of its rotation is set from 2 to 5 kgf * cm.
Install the short pull shaft.
At the end of the work, grease is poured into the steering column and the plug is wrapped.
Installation of the node on the machine is carried out in the reverse order.
The adjustment work of the steering gear on the VAZ 2107 is resorted to when the steering wheel has become hard to rotate, jamming has appeared during rotation, or when the steering shaft is moved along the axis with directly located wheels.

The adjusting element is fixed with a special nut from spontaneous unscrewing, which is loosened with a key of 19. To prevent the adjusting screw from loosening spontaneously, a special nut is used.
The assistant begins to intensively rotate the steering wheel to the right and left, and the second person achieves the desired position in the gear engagement with the adjusting screw. The steering wheel in this case should rotate easily and have minimal free play. Adjustment is carried out by turning the adjusting screw with a screwdriver.
When the adjustment is completed, the screw is held with a screwdriver and the nut is tightened.
To reduce the friction of the internal elements of the steering column, gear oil GL-4, GL-5 with a viscosity grade of SAE75W90, SAE80W90 or SAE85W90 is poured into the mechanism. In the old fashioned way, for the node in question, many car owners use TAD-17 oil. The filling volume of the gearbox on the VAZ 2107 is 0.215 liters.
To avoid premature failure of parts of the mechanism, it is necessary to periodically check the oil level and replace it. It is worth taking into account that the liquid from the gearbox, although slowly, leaks, and the leakage occurs regardless of whether the column is new or old. The level check is performed as follows:

Using a screwdriver or other tool, check the oil level in the crankcase. The normal level should be at the bottom edge of the filler hole. To check the oil level in the gearbox, a screwdriver or other tool is suitable
If necessary, top up the lubricant with a syringe until it starts to flow out of the filler hole.
Tighten the plug and wipe the steering gear from smudges.
As for changing the oil in the steering gear, this procedure should be carried out once every one and a half years. If the decision was made to change the lubricant, you need to know how to perform the procedure. In addition to the new lubricant, you will need two syringes of the largest possible volume (purchased at a pharmacy) and a small piece of washer hose. The procedure is carried out in the following order:
The filler plug is unscrewed with a key, a piece of tube is put on the syringe, the old oil is drawn in and poured into the prepared container. Old grease is removed from the steering column with a syringe
With the second syringe, new lubricant is poured into the gearbox to the desired level, while it is recommended to rotate the steering wheel. A new lubricant is drawn into the syringe, after which it is poured into the gearbox
Screw the plug and wipe off traces of oil.

Despite the complex design of the G7 steering mechanism, each owner of this car can perform preventive maintenance, repair or replacement of the assembly. The reason for the repair are the characteristic signs of a malfunction in the mechanism. If parts are found with visible damage, they must be replaced without fail. Since the steering column is one of the critical components of the car, all actions must be performed in strict sequence.
