The steering gear is installed on the front axle, its steering tips are connected to the levers of the pivot pins of the wheels, and the pinion shaft is connected through a flange to the intermediate steering shaft. If the steering rack is with power steering, then two pipelines are also connected to the pump and the reservoir.
The steering mechanism of Hyundai Porter without power steering works most simply. The force from the driver's hands through the steering wheel and steering column is fed to the bevel gear, and from it through the intermediate shaft to the gear shaft. The gear, turning in one direction or the other, forces the rack to shift, which, in turn, transmits the force to the pivot pins of the wheels through the steering rods. It should be noted that both types of steering mechanisms provide feedback, that is, they transfer reactive moments from the wheels to the steering wheel, which is important for comfortable control and making the right decisions while driving. Feedback is provided by the mechanical part of the steering mechanism, that is, by the rack and the gear connected to it (in fact, the steering wheel is directly connected to the wheels).
