In detail: do-it-yourself steering rack repair for Hyundai porter 2 from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Today, not a single motorist is immune from the breakdown of his car, and it does not matter whether it belongs to the budget or elite class. In order to avoid breakdowns, you should pass the service station on time. The steering rack is practically one of the most important parts in the car, which is responsible for turning the wheels.
No matter how high-quality the parts installed on the Hyundai Porter are, they wear out sooner or later. Alas, this is how the automotive industry works: the manufacturer is interested in you buying new parts, bringing him a profit.
The main sign indicating a breakdown of the steering rack is a knock coming from under the front axle. At first, you can only hear it when driving on uneven road surfaces. Then the knock becomes more distinct, and gives to the steering wheel. If nothing is done in this situation, then this threatens to cause the node to fail, and as a result, the risk of getting into an emergency situation increases. In this case, we are no longer talking about a partial repair. Most likely, you will need to completely replace it.
There are several other factors that indicate a breakdown of the system:
Steering wheel difficult to turn in all directions. In addition, a specific whistle is emitted at the same time;
The steering wheel does not rotate well, but when the power steering fluid warms up to 50 degrees and above, the work completely returns to normal;
The steering wheel does not turn well to the sides, but when accelerating, this defect disappears. Such a breakdown is accompanied by a specific itchy sound;
The steering wheel starts to vibrate even when driving on a straight road;
The steering angle is different from the steering angle;
There is a power steering fluid leak;
The steering wheel does not turn to its original position, or it turns randomly.
In the event that after the diagnosis it turned out that the mechanism is out of order, then, depending on the severity of the breakdown, you have two options:
buy a new steering rack (in the event that repair is not possible);
to repair the old device.
In order to determine which of the two options to choose, it is necessary to dismantle the steering rack from the car. After that, the employees of our service will be able to determine what the breakdown is and how costly it will be to repair it.

Hyundai Porter steering rack repair is a whole range of works, which includes the repair itself, as well as the replacement of worn power steering components and other consumables. Sometimes doing it at home is simply unrealistic.
Only a full range of diagnostic measures will make it possible to determine what the problem is, whether a new Porter steering rack is needed, or whether it is possible to get by with repairing the old one by replacing just a few parts.
In addition to the wear of old parts, we can also talk about the breakdown of the steering rack housing itself, which could crack. In order to correct this situation, service workers must dismantle the unit, and then weld the resulting defect.
If during the diagnosis it turned out that your power steering pump is broken, then to repair this malfunction, the master checks the fluid level in the installation and, if necessary, replaces it, while pumping the entire hydraulic booster system.
If there is a need to repair the Porter steering rack along with its complete bulkhead, then you should contact us. In the course of these works, the master will be able to determine whether it is necessary to replace the repair kit of the unit or the hydraulic booster itself.He will also tell you if it's time to change the seals and other consumables.
At our station, it is also possible to press silent blocks. This will allow them to be replaced without installing a new steering rack.
A complete diagnosis of this device will make it clear why the rail is loose or leaking, and an assessment of the state of the hydraulic booster system will tell you which power steering elements need to be replaced.
The most common types of steering rack failures include:
damage to the worm gear.
steering shaft damage.
You can get these parts from us at an affordable price.
If the breakdown lies in the power steering hoses, which could wear out or crack, then the masters of our technical station will also be able to pick them up.
Payment for repairs is carried out after all work is completed. To find out the approximate cost of repairs, it is necessary to diagnose the entire steering system, after which it will become clear what the breakdown is and what parts will need to be replaced.

I found it in the Sushchevka area, the cheapest of all ..
I'll go shopping tomorrow. At the very end, the rack oil seal at the steering shaft leaked - he missed the oil level - the Gur pump was either for replacement or for repair - x.z.
Many of the Hyundai Porter commercial truck systems, including the steering, are borrowed from passenger cars. The steering is built on the basis of the gear-rack mechanism, which can be supplemented by power steering. Read about the Hyundai Porter steering mechanism, its types, device, operation and applicability in this article.
The steering of Hyundai Porter commercial trucks has a completely traditional scheme and is built on four main components: the steering column (with a steering wheel), the steering gear (also called the steering rack) and the steering gear drive, which consists of a bevel gear and an intermediate shaft. The steering with hydraulic power steering (GUR) also includes a pump, its drive and a piping system.
Each node solves its own problems and always works in cooperation with other nodes: the steering wheel perceives the force from the driver’s hands, the steering column, bevel gear and intermediate shaft transmit this force to the steering mechanism, and the latter, in turn, increases the force and ensures the wheels turn . The steering mechanism is the most complex and critical part of the steering, so we will talk about it in more detail.
Today, only one type of steering mechanism is used in Hyundai Porter cars - the rack and pinion type. This type of mechanism is distinguished by a simple device, lightness and reliability, but it is used only on light vehicles. But you need to remember that the maximum gross weight of the Porter does not exceed 3.5 tons, so the use of a steering rack in it is fully justified. Moreover, the rack-and-pinion steering mechanism is half or even three times less expensive than the screw-nut mechanisms used on Hyundai's heavier trucks and buses.
The steering mechanisms used on the Hyundai Porter fall into three categories:
• Steering racks for Porter without power steering; • Steering racks for Porter with power steering; • Steering racks for Porter II (only with power steering).
As it is easy to understand, the first two types of steering mechanisms are distinguished by the presence and absence of a hydraulic booster, and the third type mechanism is suitable for installation only for Hyundai Porter II cars (the fourth generation of Porter, which has been produced since 2005).Mechanisms for Porter and Porter II differ in size and design, but they are fundamentally the same device and principle of operation.
Steering mechanisms for the Hyundai Porter are produced by two South Korean companies - Mobis (Mobis) in Korea (a division of Hyundai) and Mando. Mobis steering racks are original parts, so they usually cost more. However, the quality of the mechanisms of both brands is on the same level, so they are all popular.
The steering rack is based on a rack and pinion mechanism, it consists of a horizontal rack and a helical gear engaged with it, located on the shaft (thus, the shaft is perpendicular to the rack). This mechanism is located in a case, which is closed with anthers on both sides and in the upper part. On both sides, the toothed rack is connected to the steering rods, which, in turn, are connected to the steering tips.
The steering mechanism with power steering is somewhat more complicated. It has an elongated rail placed in an elongated sealed housing. Approximately in the center of the long side of the rail there is a piston that divides the body into two chambers - these are the hydraulic booster cylinders. Each cylinder has a fitting for connecting pipelines through which the supply and discharge of the working fluid is carried out.
Also in the steering mechanism there is a spool, combined into one unit with a vertical shaft (on which the gear is located) - the spool distributes the flows of the working fluid, sending them, depending on the angle and direction of rotation of the steering wheel, to the hydraulic booster cylinders. The spool body also has two fittings for connecting pipelines, and fittings for connecting the discharge (from the pump) and drain (to the tank) lines.
The steering mechanism is mounted on the front axle, its steering tips are connected to the levers of the steering axles of the wheels, and the gear shaft is connected through the flange to the intermediate steering shaft. If the steering rack is with power steering, then two pipelines are also connected to the pump and reservoir.
The Hyundai Porter steering mechanism without power steering works most simply. The force from the hands of the driver through the steering wheel and steering column is fed to the bevel gear, and from it through the intermediate shaft to the gear shaft. The gear, turning in one direction or another, causes the rack to move, which, in turn, through the steering rods, transmits force to the pivot pins of the wheels. As a result, turning the steering wheel causes the wheels to turn in the same direction.
The power steering mechanism works harder. When the steering wheel is turned, the gear shaft rotates, on which there is a spool (valve) - it opens, providing a supply of working fluid under pressure to one of the power steering cylinders, and at the same time opening a free exit of fluid from the opposite cylinder. Due to the resulting pressure difference, a higher force is applied to the toothed rack than from the hands of the driver, and making a turn requires less effort from the driver. When the steering wheel is turned in the other direction, the spool redistributes the flow of the working fluid, and the power steering pushes the rail in the other direction.
It should be noted that both types of steering mechanisms provide feedback, that is, they transmit reactive moments from the wheels to the steering wheel, which is important for comfortable control and making the right decisions while driving. Feedback is provided by the mechanical part of the steering mechanism, that is, by the rack and the gear connected to it (in fact, the steering wheel is directly connected to the wheels).
Thanks to the design of the rack, the car remains steerable even in the event of a power steering failure, although the control becomes more complex, requiring the application of large forces. That is, the steering mechanism with a faulty hydraulic booster works like a normal one.
The Hyundai Porter steering mechanism does not require special routine maintenance, but periodically needs repair and replacement of its individual parts.The mechanism is designed in such a way that it does not need to be adjusted (as, for example, it is done in other types of mechanisms) - all necessary adjustments are made by the manufacturer, or only after complete disassembly and replacement of some parts.
Porter steering racks are characterized by several main malfunctions:
• Wear and breakage of rack or pinion teeth; • Wear and damage to seals and sealing rings; • Wear and damage to anthers; • Worn or damaged bearings; • Deformation (bending) of the rail; • Destruction (cracking) in the mechanism case.
Most malfunctions are eliminated by replacing worn or damaged parts, while after disassembling the rail, all dismantled seals, seals and bushings must be replaced without fail. Especially for this, the market today offers repair kits containing all the necessary spare parts.
Cracks in the rack housing can be welded, but this does not always solve the problem for a long time - the housing can collapse again under the influence of vibrations and shocks. Therefore, it is easier to replace the housing with a new one, or to make a complete replacement of the steering mechanism. It also makes sense to change the mechanism in the case of a general development of its resource, with a significant deterioration in performance, the appearance of knocks, etc. Since repairing such malfunctions will be more expensive and more difficult than installing a new steering gear.
If there is a power steering in the steering, then it is necessary to periodically check the mechanism and pipelines for leaks, and also pay attention to the quality of the hydraulic booster. If leaks occur, damaged parts or seals are replaced, and if the power steering deteriorates, the piston sealing elements (and all other seals that must be replaced when disassembling the mechanism) are replaced.
Periodic inspection and timely repair of the steering mechanism of the Hyundai Porter car is the key to high-quality and reliable steering, which is so necessary for a compact and maneuverable truck on tight city streets.
