  • Detach the steering end from the knuckle using a suitable tool.
  • Rotation of the screw cable (part of the SRS “Air bag” component) is limited. If the steering gear is to be removed, set the front wheels in a strictly straight direction. Do not rotate the steering column when removing the steering gear.
  • Remove the steering wheel before removing the lower steering column articulation to avoid damage to the SRS cable.
  • Remove pipes low 01 and high pressure 02.

  • Install pipe connections
  • Use the specified torques when tightening the high and low pressure pipe connectors. Over-tightening can damage the threads or the connecting O-ring.
  • The O-ring in the low pressure pipe connection is larger than in the high pressure pipe connection. Be careful when installing the O-ring.
    Tightening torques for connectors:
    Low pressure end "01"
    20 - 25 N • m (2.0 - 2.6 kg-m, 14 - 19 ft-lb)
    High pressure end “02”
    15 - 25 N • m (1.5 - 2.5 kg-m, 11 - 18 ft-lb)
  • Check that the steering gear is correctly oriented in the mounting brackets and that the connecting pipes are not tangled around the bulkheads or subframe.

  • First, tighten the tie rod end lock nut and knuckle arm to 29 to 39 N • m (3 to 4 kg-m, 22 to 29 ft-lb). Then tighten further, aligning the locknut with the stud hole so that the cotter pin can be installed.

ATTENTION:
The tightening torque must not exceed 49 N • m (5 kg-m, 36 ft-lb).
