In detail: do-it-yourself power steering rack repair lanos from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
We remove the steering mechanism for its repair, replacement or replacement of the protective cover. We show the removal of the steering mechanism with power steering. You can remove the steering gear with or without steering rods. In the first method, we press out the pins of the ball joints of the outer tips from the swing arms of the shock absorber struts (see Replacing the outer tie rod end of a Chevrolet Lanos). In the second method, we disconnect the inner tie rod ends from the steering rack (see Removing the Chevrolet Lanos tie rod). In the cabin…
... with a “12” head, we unscrew the bolt of the terminal connection of the flange of the elastic coupling with the shank of the steering gear and remove the bolt. Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position. After disconnecting the mechanical connection between the steering gear shaft and the flexible coupling, the steering wheel must not be turned to avoid damage to the spiral cable connecting the driver's airbag and horn switches to the wiring harness. In the engine compartment, remove the expansion tank of the cooling system from the studs and set it aside (see Removing the Chevrolet Lanos expansion tank). Before disconnecting the hydraulic lines from the crankcase of the steering mechanism, we substitute a wide container under the crankcase to collect fluid.
Using the “18” key, we unscrew the fitting 1 of the drain line pipe and the fitting 2 of the discharge line pipe. We remove the tips of the tubes of both lines from the holes of the crankcase of the steering mechanism and insert the plugs of a suitable diameter into the holes of the pipes and the crankcase.

With the “12” head, we unscrew the bolt of the upper fastening of the right bracket of the steering mechanism to the front panel ...
... and the bottom nut.
Remove the right steering bracket.
With the same tool, we unscrew the bolt of the upper fastening of the left bracket of the steering mechanism to the bulkhead and the nut of the lower fastening ... ... and remove the bracket.
The location of the brackets for mounting the steering mechanism (for clarity with the engine removed)
We shift the steering gear forward until the gear shank comes out of the flexible coupling flange (for clarity, the instrument panel is removed). We remove the gear shank from the hole in the front end shield of the body ...
... and take out the steering mechanism together with the steering rods through the hole in the left mudguard.
In the second method of dismantling, we take out the steering mechanism without steering rods. We assemble and install the steering mechanism in the reverse order, be sure to check the middle position of the rack (rectilinear movement of the car). In this case, the steering wheel must also maintain the position of the rectilinear movement of the car. This is to ensure that the coiled airbag cable is in the middle position.
The rack is in the middle position when the distance from the inner end of the landing surface of the steering gear housing under the left rubber cushion to the axis of symmetry of the plate is 325 mm (for clarity, it is shown with the steering gear removed). In this case, the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the flexible coupling flange with the steering column shaft must be located on top of the steering shaft in a horizontal position. Pour working fluid into the reservoir of the power steering and remove air from the system (see.Bleeding the Chevrolet Lanos power steering system).
Not that the rake on the Lanos rattled strongly, but still the sound was distinct. I have long wanted to disassemble the rail and see what happened there, but somehow there was not enough time, my hands did not reach. However, there has recently been a chance to do this. The fact is that the whole workshop was at my disposal, because there were no bosses at work that day. Naturally, I did not miss such a moment, I dismantled the rail.
After dismantling the element, he removed the rubber boot, pulled out the slider and found quite a lot of wear on it in the lateral area. It is necessary to change this element, but after all, I need to finish the repair today, I cannot leave the workplace and go to a car shop. And then I took a block of fluoroplastic, cut it to the right size, made a part that was very similar to the old slider. The machine that is in the workshop helped me a lot, without it I would not have coped.
As soon as I made a new part, all that remained was to assemble everything as it was before and enjoy the result. And there really is a result, the rattling from the steering rack has disappeared completely, it’s really not heard anymore. But I already planned to buy a new rail, though not this year, now I would have traveled with sound, but this means that the element wears out rapidly and soon there will be little left of it. Well, the rail will still serve a couple of years, or even more.
So I recommend you, even if you don’t have special equipment with you, then you shouldn’t immediately buy a new part on the advice of people who only pretend that they understand something about it, but in fact, out of knowledge and a penny stand. Take it apart and see where it's broken. Even if I couldn't make myself a new part, I could go to the auto shop and buy myself a new one. In any case, it is much cheaper than buying a new rail for yourself, and then, together with all this goodness, going to a car service, where you will have to pay the same amount for work, if not more.
The Daewoo Lanos steering mechanism has the most direct impact on traffic safety. It is scary to imagine what can happen when the driver turns the steering wheel, and the wheels do not react to it in any way. Additionally, the precise operation of the entire mechanism provides comfortable driving conditions. One of its main nodes is the steering rack. If any malfunction occurs in it, the creation of an emergency on the road is inevitable. Given this feature, control over the state of the rail should be constant.
A serviceable steering rack Daewoo Lanos during operation does not remind of its existence. But as soon as problems arise in her condition, she immediately makes itself felt.
The most typical symptoms of a malfunction are:
Play in the steering wheel;
Unauthorized knocks;
Steering wheel jamming;
Oil stains under the engine;
Reducing the fluid level in the power steering reservoir (power steering).
These and other signs are characteristic not only for the steering rack. Only service station specialists can understand the reason for their appearance and determine their location.
Diagnostics is the most crucial moment in determining the possibility of further operation of the rail. The way to restore its performance will depend on the results. But this is the case if the diagnosis is carried out in compliance with all parameters. It is this condition that is feasible only at a specialized service station. Why? The answer is simple - the steering rack cannot be diagnosed "by eye". This requires special equipment.
By external inspection, service station specialists determine the possibility of a malfunction in the assembly. Then the rail is dismantled, and after cleaning it is checked on a special diagnostic stand.If the results obtained by inspection and on the stand coincide, the possibility of further use of the rail in the car is analyzed.
Thus, every car enthusiast must conclude that steering rack diagnostics cannot be trusted even by the “best mechanic” from a nearby garage. Without a diagnostic stand, the performance of this node cannot be assessed.
Steering racks can be conditionally divided into two types - with and without power steering. Accordingly, the repair of the power steering rail Lanos will have slight differences.
The content and number of operations in the repair of such an element as the Lanos steering rack with power steering is somewhat increased due to the presence of a power steering. This includes draining the fluid from the power steering, replacing the sealing glands and additional adjustments.
The practice of such repairs shows that everyone who made them with their own hands had to seek qualified help from service station specialists. Thus, savings on repairs turned into unforeseen costs.
It is somewhat simpler than the previous one, but not so much that you can do it yourself. In the process of reiki restoration for non-specialists, many different pitfalls arise.
Failure to comply with some of the nuances will lead to the failure of the entire mechanism. For example, after tightening the bushing spring cover, it must be loosened by half a turn. Failure to complete this step will cause the steering rack to jam.
Well, if this does not happen while driving. Repair in a service environment involves not only the replacement of faulty parts, but also a thorough check of the operability of the unit as a whole.
For this, there are special diagnostic stands. The complexity of the repair is indicated by its laboriousness. It may take up to one day to restore the rail.
In any case, the choice will remain with the client. But here a number of factors must be taken into account. If the rail was repaired at the service station, then its service life will not differ from the new one. Moreover, it can even surpass it. It all depends on the parts used in the repair. Some suppliers produce spare parts of higher quality than the manufacturer. This is especially true for such an indicator as strength.
An important indicator is the cost. For a restored rail, it is more than 5 times less than for a new one. Often this is the determining factor in choosing whether the Lanos steering rack will be repaired or replaced.
The operational life of 200-250 thousand km laid down by the manufacturer is not always maintained. It contributes to:
The low quality of our roads;
Not careful driving
Increase in vehicle mileage between scheduled maintenance;
Operation errors;
Natural wear.
All these reasons cause a significant reduction in the life of the mechanism. Analyzing the causes of malfunctions, it is easy to come to the conclusion that they are mainly caused by the fault of the driver. By reading the Operating Instructions for the car, and most importantly by fulfilling its requirements, you can greatly increase the service life of all its components and assemblies, including the steering rack.
A trip with a faulty steering rack can be a big disaster, and even be the last for your car. To prevent this from happening, we suggest contacting us at the service station for help. We have at our disposal a competent, highly professional staff of repairmen, certified equipment for diagnostics and repair. We give a guarantee for the work performed by us.
Opel reliability, by inheritance, along with the design of the main components, passed to Daewoo cars. However, with a strong run, the car can get on your nerves. When the steering rack on Lanos knocks, it's too early to sound the alarm. First, we will carry out diagnostics, and after that we will find out what shines for us - replacement of the rail, repair, or maybe it's something else. As practice shows, a knock in the steering rack does not always indicate the need for replacement.The price of the rack itself, plus the price of replacement - comes out a round sum that will make us figure it out on our own.
For orientation, we have selected several options for replacing the rail with Lanos. Not the fact that it will have to be changed, however, we will know how much you can save if you take the time to diagnose and, in extreme cases, repair the steering.
The original GM steering rack without power steering with catalog number 096275011, Korean, will cost $82 (or UAH 2092) at the exchange rate for 2018. The quality is good, but you can find cheaper and not worse.
For example, the Czech rail Profit 30418040. Its price is $ 79. Slightly worse in quality, but there is no crime.
Lauber, made in Poland, catalog number 668267. This rail is with power steering, which is why it is expensive, about $450. There is no point in changing it, only repairing it.
The prospect of a complete replacement of the rail is not bright, especially since the service station will most likely insist on a replacement. No one wants to mess with the steering wheel of an outdated car, it is not profitable for them. It is easier to change, but more expensive for us. It turns out, we understand ourselves.
There is nothing particularly complicated in the device of the Lanos rail. A classic design, proven over the years and surviving more than one generation of cars. The steering rack device is shown in the photo below.
Regardless of whether with or without a power steering rack, knocks in the steering can appear for several reasons:
Deterioration of a pair of gear-rack. If the mileage of our Lanos is over 180 thousand, the likelihood that this pair has worn out is quite high. A pair of gear - rack
The adjusting nut is loose or the clamping sleeve is worn. It is solved simply - we tighten the nut, but not all the way, but so that the steering wheel rotates freely, while there is no backlash. Clamping nut rails
Worn steering wheel bearings. The most common cause of knocks in Lanos with good mileage.
Working out on a clamping cracker, which leads to the fact that it is not pressed against the rail and beats on the rail body when driving through bumps. In this case, you will have to remove and sort out the rail.
There are a number of symptoms that can be very similar to rack knocks. In fact, everything can be much easier and cheaper to repair. These moments are often used at service stations to raise the price of repairs, so knowing about such malfunctions, we can fix them ourselves.
Checking the condition of the rail is quite simple. Firstly, a thorough visual inspection will indicate a lubricant leak from the steering crankcase, torn or worn anthers, and mechanical damage to the rack. Secondly, you need to try to find out the source of the knock from under the car or from under the hood.
To do this, we ask the assistant to sit behind the wheel and rotate it within 15-30 degrees. At this time, we ourselves are in the area of \u200b\u200bthe steering rack and carefully listen to where the knock comes from, if it is at all on a stationary car. A knock can be recognized by placing a hand on the rack housing while an assistant turns the steering wheel. Another source of knocking in the steering is the attachment points of the rods. The seal under the binoculars often breaks, it is enough to replace it and the knocks will disappear.
If the knocks on a stationary car are confirmed, we buy a repair kit for the Lanos rail, remove it and change the o-rings, caproline bushings, clamps and anthers. Even a complete overhaul of the rail will cost much less than buying and installing a new one. Good luck with all the diagnostics and smooth roads!
We will show you how to repair the steering rack of a Daewoo Lanos car with your own hands. In the steering rack, you can hear the knock of the rear hub, when the steering wheel moves, it creaks unpleasantly. At the beginning of the video, it is shown how it is correctly removed and then disassembled, the tool used, lubrication, etc. When disassembling, carefully inspect the anthers for damage; if they are found, replacement is necessary.
Litol was used as a lubricant, but according to further practice, it is better to use a CV joint lubricant for these purposes, in terms of lubricating properties it is slightly better than lithol, all the advantages of this lubricant appear in frost, in cold weather it will not harden, in the morning or after a long parking the steering wheel spins without any problems when the car is not warmed up.
At the end, it is shown how the steering rack is assembled, its work after repair.
Video repair steering rack Daewoo Lanos:
The video is in good quality, the whole process is shown as conveniently as possible so that you can consider all the details of the repair and repeat it on your car with your own hands.
Two types of steering racks were installed on Chevrolet Lanos cars: with and without power steering. As practice has shown, the second option is more reliable, but the driving comfort is somewhat lower.
The steering rack with power steering on Chevrolet Lanos cars is not made according to the classical scheme, which is widely used on European and American cars. Therefore, when repairing it, you need to take into account some features.
If you suspect a malfunction in the steering rack, you can contact us for qualified diagnostics. There are several signs of problems that require repair or replacement of the Lanos steering rack with or without power steering:
knocking when turning the steering wheel or when entering a turn;
increased steering play;
steering wheel wedging or stepped rotation;
the presence of smudges of hydraulic fluid or a drop in the level in the tank.
Since driving with a faulty steering rack is fraught with serious consequences, if you find the above symptoms, you should undergo a detailed diagnosis.
You can sign up for diagnostics in our car service in advance or go through upon arrival at the service station. We perform the following work package:
checking the tightness of the hydraulic line;
assessment of the reliability of attaching the rail to the car body;
inspection of the steering casing for damage;
checking the size of the backlash and the localization of the areas where it is formed;
assessment of the condition of other steering elements.
After the diagnostics, the client is issued a conclusion with a list of detected faults. Next, a preliminary cost estimate is created, in which the required amount of repair work is described.
After the repair is completed, we issue a warranty card, which must not be kept for the entire warranty period.
Employment of only highly qualified specialists and continuous improvement of their professional level. Our network has created all the conditions for qualified employees to stay with us. As a result, our network of car maintenance and repair centers has a minimum staff turnover. Some specialists have been working with us for many years, devoting themselves to any one area, thanks to which the level of their work is not only high, but also stable.
Work on professional equipment using high quality materials and spare parts. Years of practice have shown that saving on tools and equipment does not lead to anything good, and the use of cheap and low-quality materials in repairs is generally unacceptable. Therefore, a strategic decision was made in our network of enterprises: no savings on consumables and repair tools. This gives a guarantee that the repair will be carried out in compliance with all technological aspects.
Really working guarantee. If for any reason the car is returned for warranty improvements, we will put it in a repair position out of turn. Although warranty returns are rare for us, we try to maintain the highest level of service in such cases. You do not have to wait several days before your car is put into service. We try to eliminate our own shortcomings as soon as possible.
Before starting work, we always create a preliminary cost estimate, trying to take into account as accurately as possible what volumes will be carried out and what materials will be used. If in the process of work unforeseen points of repair are revealed, we will without fail agree on additional volumes with the customer. Thus, at the time of acceptance of the car from repair, the client will not be surprised by the increase in the initial cost.
Sometimes they say that our prices are not the lowest in the city. It's true. But that level of professionalism and guarantees of quality work, as a rule, are appreciated. Those car owners who once served in our network of car services become our regular customers, because the guarantee of the correct operation of the unit repaired by us is objectively more pleasant and valuable than a small savings when performing work from low-skilled repairmen.
The Chevrolet Lanos steering rack is needed in order to transfer forces from the steering wheel in the cabin to the swivel rods. In simpler terms, this device, thanks to the wheels synchronously turn in one direction. The steering rack of a Chevrolet Lanos without gur can be, or can be equipped with a power steering. Whether it will or not depends on the configuration and year of manufacture of the car. But in any case, you can always replace the old rail with a new one equipped with a hydraulic booster.
If the rail began to “knock”, we recommend that you either replace it or repair it. Especially for this, car shops can offer you a Chevrolet Lanos steering rack repair kit. It is inexpensive, but in a not too neglected state of the steering rack, it can put it in order. If the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack with gur repair does not help, you will have to change it to a new one.
First, raise the car so that the front wheels do not touch the ground.
Remove the wheel from the driver's side. Then we remove the battery.
We unscrew the nut by 46 and tighten the rail with a 19 key. You need to tighten it until the wheels get free play, and the steering wheel, during sharp turns, starts to click.
That's all, we collect everything back and try to ride. If it doesn’t help, you need to either repair the rail using the repair kit mentioned above, or change it to a new one. We recommend changing, as this is a guarantee that the rail will not disturb you for a very long time. But the question of how to tighten the steering rack on a Chevrolet Lanos seems to have been answered, now let's go directly to the replacement.
Of course, you can change the rail yourself, but you will have to tinker for a long time (if you are doing this for the first time, and in general you don’t really understand the car and all the terms). Yes, and tools (if there is nowhere to take them) will have to be thoroughly spent. So we recommend that you contact a service station for replacement. But if you still thoroughly decided to do everything yourself, here's a video for you:
Already answered here, but in general from my own experience. Replacing the bushing will help from knocking, I had a backlash in the region of 1mm. Change the binoculars if necessary - check if the bushings in it have any play. As for the pressure from below with a spring - if the bearings are intact - then adjust according to the manual, the steering wheel should freely return to its original position. If the wear of the pressing guide is critical, there is a repair kit for sale (there is a spring, a guide and, like, a bearing).
Be sure to check the condition of the rubber pads attaching to the car body! If it’s hardened, change it right away, don’t repeat my mistakes, they quite significantly dampen the recoil in the steering wheel on bumps.
Since the rail may well have to be changed, it became interesting what is the difference between rails for Lanos without gur, which are at least 3 pieces? Are they all compatible with each other in terms of connecting to the column, do they have the same number of revolutions, etc.? d?
The first, as I have now (2005), the second seems to have been put on more recent ones. They differ not only in that the second has a right-hand plug, which also acts as a bushing for the bracket (the first one has it separately). it is iron with an overlay. The third is generally xs
I sort of sorted out the rail without gur. I wanted to file a detailed report, but all my hands were always dirty, I was too lazy, it took much more time than planned)) As a result, it didn’t work out perfectly (wear and tear of the worm and shaft), so that it was just like new, but the play has become much less, before it was strong near the rods, with a knock, now it is light and without noise. I drove over bumps, tram tracks, etc. it was great, the rumble was gone, the ride became much more pleasant. I’ll just say a few words, all of a sudden someone will come in handy, I did it myself for the first time) In general, the device is elementary, and if it weren’t for the ingress of water (it’s not clear where) and rust on the teeth of the worm and shaft, as well as timely adjustment, then it would be another 120k departed without any replacement bushings and anything.
1. Inside there is a small bearing 07819358 (fc65366) which can (like mine, for example) fall apart from water and, accordingly, wear, it is advisable to have it in advance, since I managed to find 1 piece in stock only in one single store in Moscow. And from it doesn’t fit domestic ones, unlike the bearing on the worm (I don’t remember the number, but it is knocked out and there is an analogue from Russians in any store) It is knocked out from the outside by an extension from the heads and is pressed in with it.
2. I didn’t manage to change the bushing 07834425, because to remove the stopper you need a very long puller, which I didn’t find anywhere (in one of the reports I saw how it was removed with medical clamps, but I still didn’t understand where to buy these) But the old native, I would not say that it is worn out, although the mileage is 120k and nothing has ever been done with the rail.
3. The black metal caps on the right and left are very tight. They are removed like this - after removing the worm and the adjusting plug, tap them on the sides well. And then take the rail vertically and with sharp movements, first up and then down to make the rail shaft itself (and he is the heaviest) with all his weight inside the case he hit the cap, as if sliding along the rail from top to bottom.
4. Remember how the worm stood in the rails, in order to set it in the central position after assembly, it’s an elementary matter and then you don’t need to rearrange any steering wheel, have different wheel steering or something else.
5. When adjusting, it is necessary to scroll the rail from one end to the other, since after tightening in the extreme position it can start to bite (apparently due to the fact that the teeth on the sides are newer.
The main function of the steering rack (gearbox) in the device of the car is to organize the rotation of the car. The steering rack is present in cars with power steering, as well as in those cars in which there is no power steering. It connects the steering wheel to the wheels, and therefore its role is very important for safe movement in the car. The diagnosis of this mechanism must be approached with the utmost responsibility, as, indeed, repair.
All cars, regardless of price and status, are subject to rapid wear of steering parts, because it is these parts that take the hit at any turn, hitting an obstacle, hitting the wheels in potholes on the road.
To determine if your vehicle's steering system needs repair, look for the following signs of a malfunctioning mechanism:
a knock is clearly felt in the steering rack, which is felt through the steering wheel of the car;
increased effort required to rotate the steering wheel;
there were extraneous sounds and noise in the power steering pump;
there was a backlash of the steering rack, which is felt when the steering wheel is rotated;
the power steering oil began to leak from the steering rack.
If any of these signs appear, do not delay repairing the steering rack. Untimely repair of steering parts can lead to loss of maintainability of the mechanism.
So, your steering rack is leaking. What to do, how to repair and improve the performance of the steering? First of all, it is worth noting that it is actually very difficult to repair this unit, and it is worth starting the procedure only if you have all the necessary equipment at hand, as well as experience and knowledge in the field of car structure.
The steering rack mechanism consists of the following parts:
toothed shaft;
steering rack support sleeve;
golden mechanism.
Repair of the steering rack usually consists of several stages:
Dismantling, disassembly of the steering rack and cleaning of accumulations of all its parts.
Replacement of damaged parts of the mechanism with new parts.
Diagnosis of the gear shaft of the steering rack.
Before starting repair work, you should acquire a special repair kit, which includes new parts for the steering rack (oil seals, steering rack bushing, ring seals, and others). How to remove the steering rack.
Drive the car into the pit or raise it with jacks.
Remove the engine protection (if you have one).
Remove the steering rack heat shield.
Unscrew the fasteners on the steering rack.
Remove the rail from the mounts and pull it out of the insides of the car.
It is worth noting that it will be better for you to remove the steering rack along with the tie rods, because it will be much more convenient to pull the new anthers onto special protrusions on the tie rods. This will help you install the anthers with a perfect tightness.
Unscrew the rack from the steering rods using a special flat screwdriver.
Unscrew the lower plastic plug of the gear shaft.
Loosen the lock nut.
Remove the circlip and gently knock the shaft out of its place.
Pull out the bottom seal.
By tapping, remove the locking pin that blocks the upper gland.
Twist the retaining plug and pull the retaining ring out by the wire that will come out when you turn it.
Pull the steering rack through the right side and remove the oil seal and plastic bushing from it.
Remove the gland and plug, pull out the spring and clamping mechanism.
Next, wash all parts from oil and dirt deposits and carefully inspect all parts for mechanical damage due to wear. All damaged parts must be replaced without fail. If the surface of the steering rack and the gear of the toothed shaft are significantly damaged, then most likely the entire mechanism will need to be replaced (how the steering rack is replaced on the VAZ 2109, read in our material).
Carefully install the inner oil seal in its place, having previously lubricated it with special grease (you need to put it through the right side with the spring down).
Place the rail into the body.
Put the plastic bushing on the right oil seal, lubricate all parts with grease and install the oil seal in its place by pushing it with something.
Install the plug and secure it with the lock wire.
Put the bottom seal on the toothed shaft.
Set the steering rack to the middle position.
Insert the gear shaft into the seat, after lubricating the seals with grease.
Gently insert the top seal into place, using a hammer to help it slide into place. Install the retaining ring.
Tighten the lower lock nut, bearing, plug.
Install the clamping mechanism, spring and plug. Pull harder.
Then install the rack on the car in reverse order. Be sure to do a “alignment” after the repair or replacement procedure. Do-it-yourself steering rack repair without and with power steering has much in common, the differences are minor: different bushings and the composition of the lubrication fluid.
If any of these signs appear, do not delay repairing the steering rack. Untimely repair of steering parts can lead to loss of maintainability of the mechanism.

Removing the steering rack mechanism Chevrolet Lanos
We remove the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack mechanism for its repair, replacement or replacement of the protective cover. We show the removal of the steering gear with power steering.
You can remove the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack mechanism with or without steering rods. In the first method, we press out the fingers of the ball joints of the outer tips from the swing arms of the shock absorber struts.
In the second method, we disconnect the inner tie rod ends from the steering rack.
In the cabin, unscrew the bolt of the terminal connection of the flange of the elastic coupling with the shank of the steering gear with the head and remove the bolt.
Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position.
After disconnecting the mechanical connection between the gear shaft of the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack mechanism and the elastic coupling, the steering wheel must not be turned to avoid damage to the spiral cable connecting the driver's airbag and horn switches to the wiring harness.
In the engine compartment, remove the expansion tank of the cooling system from the studs and set aside.
Before disconnecting the hydraulic lines from the crankcase of the steering mechanism, we substitute a wide container under the crankcase to collect fluid.
With a wrench, unscrew the fitting of the drain line pipe and the fitting of the discharge line pipe.
We remove the tips of the tubes of both lines from the holes in the crankcase of the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack mechanism and insert plugs of a suitable diameter into the holes of the pipes and crankcase.
Using the head, we unscrew the bolt of the upper fastening of the right bracket of the Chevrolet Lanos steering mechanism to the front panel and the nut of the lower fastening. Remove the right steering bracket.
Using the same tool, we unscrew the bolt of the upper fastening of the left bracket of the steering mechanism to the bulkhead and the nut of the lower fastening and remove the bracket.
We shift the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack mechanism forward until the gear shank comes out of the flexible coupling flange (the instrument panel is removed for clarity).
We derive the gear shank from the hole in the front end shield of the body and take out the steering mechanism together with the steering rods through the hole in the left mudguard. In the second method of dismantling, we take out the steering mechanism without steering rods.
We assemble and install the steering gear of the Chevrolet Lanos in the reverse order, be sure to check the middle position of the rack (rectilinear movement of the car).
In this case, the steering wheel must also maintain the position of the rectilinear movement of the car. This is to ensure that the coiled airbag cable is in the middle position.
The Chevrolet Lanos steering rack is in the middle position when the distance from the inner end of the landing surface of the steering gear housing under the left rubber cushion to the axis of symmetry of the plate is 325 mm (for clarity, it is shown with the steering gear removed).
In this case, the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the flexible coupling flange with the steering column shaft must be located on top of the steering shaft in a horizontal position.
Pour working fluid into the power steering reservoir and remove air from the system.
Replacement cover mechanism steering rack Chevrolet Lanos
We carry out work in case of damage to the cover of the Chevrolet Lanos steering rack mechanism. The condition of the steering gear cover must be carefully monitored, because if it is leaky, dirt gets into the mechanism cavity, which can cause the rack to jam.
We dismantle the Chevrolet Lanos steering mechanism. Remove the right bracket and the rubber support mounting the steering gear housing.
Using a wrench, we unscrew the two union nuts securing the tubes to the steering gear housing and move the tubes to the side.
With side cutters, we bite the lock of the clamp for attaching the protective cover and remove the clamp. Remove the other clamp in the same way.
Having shifted the protective cover on the right side of the case, we remove the split remote sleeve from under it and remove it.
Remove the protective cover from the steering gear housing. We put a new cover on the steering gear housing.
To fix the rack, slider and cover of the Chevrolet Lanos steering mechanism in the correct position, through the holes in the cover and the slider, we bait bolts for fastening the inner tie rod ends into the threaded holes of the rail.
We shift the cover along the crankcase to the right so that the split distance sleeve is installed in the mounting groove made on the crankcase. We fix the cover with new clamps.
Further assembly of the steering mechanism is carried out in reverse order. We install the steering mechanism on the car. Delete air from the hydraulic system.
Removing the power steering pump GUR Chevrolet Lanos
We remove the Chevrolet Lanos power steering pump to repair or replace it, as well as when replacing the timing belt, removing the coolant pump, replacing the camshaft oil seal.
We pump out the fluid from the reservoir of the power steering pump. We remove the air filter housing and take it to the side along with the air duct.
Remove the alternator drive belt. With a wrench, we unscrew the fitting of the discharge line pipe, holding the union nut of the Chevrolet Lanos power steering pump pipe with a key (for clarity, the cooling system hose is removed) and remove the discharge line pipe from the pump pipe.
We close the openings of the tubes with suitable plugs. Using pliers with long jaws, we compress the clamp of the inlet hose, slide the clamp along the hose and remove the hose from the pump nozzle. We close the openings of the hose and the nozzle with suitable plugs.
With a spanner wrench, we unscrew the three bolts securing the Chevrolet Lanos power steering pump pulley, holding the pump shaft from turning with a hexagon (for clarity, shown on the removed engine) and remove the pulley.
Using the head, loosen the two bolts securing the pump housing to the cylinder block and move the pump away from the cylinder block in order to allow the top cover of the timing belt to be removed. Remove the top timing belt cover.
We unscrew the bolts securing the pump housing to the end and remove it. We install the Chevrolet Lanos power steering pump in reverse order. We remove air from the hydraulic system.
Removing the tie rod Chevrolet Lanos
Fig.39. Tie Rod Parts Chevrolet Lanos
1 - outer tip; 2 - adjusting screw; 3 - inner tip
We remove the tie rod Chevrolet Lanos to replace it. The work is shown on the left tie rod. The right tie rod is removed in the same way. Disconnect the outer tie rod end from the swing arm.
In the engine compartment, pry off with a screwdriver and remove the locking plate of the bolts securing the inner lugs of the rods to the steering rack of the Chevrolet Lanos.
Using a spanner wrench, unscrew the bolt securing the inner tip of the left tie rod to the steering rack. Weaken the tightening of the bolt securing the inner tip of the right tie rod.
Turning the base plate around the axis of the Chevrolet Lanos right tie rod end bolt, release the inner left tie rod end and remove the washer. Remove the left tie rod through the hole in the wheel well.
When replacing the inner tip of the thrust with a caliper, we measure the distance between the ends of the inner tip and the hexagon of the adjusting screw.
You can also mark the position of the tip on the adjusting screw with a marker or count the number of turns when the tip is unscrewed.
Using a wrench, loosen the tightening bolt of the terminal connection of the inner lug with the adjusting screw and unscrew the adjusting screw from the inner lug (the thread on the right inner lug is right-handed, and on the left - left-handed).
We screw the new Chevrolet Lanos inner tie rod end onto the adjusting screw to the previously measured distance or in accordance with the previously applied marks, or the same number of revolutions that the old end was screwed on.
We tighten the coupling bolt of the terminal connection of the inner lug. When installing the tie rod, we bait the bolt that secures the inner tip of the rod to the rail and fasten the outer tip to the swivel arm of the rack.
