Steering racks. Causes of corrosion and leaks. Repair.
The Hyundai Tussan car stands out from the rest of the range of vehicles in that it has increased cross-country ability, it has a comfortable interior and good power. When driving on this machine, there is no thought about control problems. However, they are. The fact is that in the event of a malfunction in the management of Hyundai Tussan, there is a risk of a traffic accident.
The steering rack is responsible for driving a vehicle on the road. It sends tension from the steering wheel to the automobile. Car owners go to specialized services for help in troubleshooting the mechanism. Most often, the following signs indicate this:
knocking on the steering wheel;
the complexity of its rotation;
at the end of the turn, the steering wheel does not return to its original place on its own;
increased free wheel travel;
various noises;
leakage of power steering fluid.
The details are not tightly secured. This is the most common reason. But the loosening of the bolts is not only due to poor-quality repairs and other manipulations with the rail. Also, this factor arises from the uneven surface of modern roads.
During use of the vehicle, the wear of the repair kit occurs. This includes gaskets, seals, rubberized rings, anthers and more.
Rusting of metal elements.
Driving style of your vehicle. Most car enthusiasts are negligent in their car.

Factors causing freewheeling:
broken teeth of the generator rod;
deterioration of silent block components;
damage to the appearance of the shaft;
defects in the screw bearing.
Considering the above, we can say that when a rudder backlash appears, it is necessary to carry out a complete analysis of the mechanism.
The reasons for the leakage of the power steering fluid are as follows:
Violation of the integrity of the gaskets.
Rust marks on the shaft.
Violation of the integrity of the tubes.
In this case, it is necessary to replace these parts.
Before troubleshooting the Tucson steering rack, a thorough diagnosis of damage is carried out.
At the first stage, external breakdowns are identified, without removing the mechanism from the car.
The second stage is complete disassembly for components. The rail is removed from the vehicle and analyzed for faults.
Upon completion of this procedure, the wizard estimates the complexity of the breakdowns, the elimination time and the approximate cost of restoration.
After diagnosing the vehicle, the craftsmen begin to repair this mechanism:
In a separate case, it is enough to adjust the unit for troubleshooting. For this, the vehicle is installed and fixed on the stand. Then they begin to tighten the adjusting screw. At the same time, the degree of elimination of the problem is assessed. When the procedure is completed, the vehicle is analyzed again.To check the quality of their work.
If the adjustment does not help, then the specialists are forced to repair the mechanism. To begin with, the unit is cleaned of dirt, traces of corrosion and used oil. Then, if necessary, the shaft is processed on a grinding machine. In some cases, the surface is cased. The next step in the procedure is to completely replace the repair kit. Namely: oil seals, anthers, bearings and much more. After carrying out all the manipulations, the rail is installed back on the car. And they carry out the final diagnostics.
Unfortunately, there are situations in which you cannot get away with a simple repair of the steering mechanism. In this case, the question arises of replacing the system. This usually happens when vehicle owners run into minor problems. And it is these defects that are the causes of major problems.
It is worth noting that the repair work of the Hyundai Tussan steering rack can only be carried out by specialists with a high level of qualifications and extensive work experience. The fact is that this procedure is extremely complicated. Moreover, our masters will do their job efficiently and in a relatively short time. Everything will depend on the complexity of the breakdown. Plus our prices are pretty reasonable.

To repair the Hyundai Tussan steering rack, significant capital investments will be needed. It is worth considering the fact that the specified node is quite complex, its main purpose is to protect it while driving. The service life of the element in question is measured in kilometers - 200-250 thousand, the figures are certified by the manufacturers. Experience shows that ignorance of how the steering rack actually functions and what needs to be done in order to increase its operation can shorten this period; this is also facilitated by the quality level of the roads along which the car drives.
A known issue is oil seal leaks. To fix the problem, repair the steering rack of Hyundai Tucson. In most cases, oil seals leak due to normal wear and tear. This is facilitated by a sudden change in temperature. And that's not all - corrosion also damages the steering rack. As a result, the oil seal will not provide the required tightness, and the oil will begin to leak. This means that the repair of the Hyundai Tussan steering rack will be provided by changing the oil seals and cleaning the shaft from corrosion.
In the event that you heard a knock on the Hyundai Tussan, in the area of the steering rack, then see if the cracker is worn out. Through it, the rack shaft is perfectly fixed. In the event of a breakdown, a backlash is formed between the nodes and, as a result, a knock when driving on a bad track. This rake from Hyundai Tussan, of course, lends itself to regulation. In this case, you just need to slightly tighten the biscuit.However, we advise you to think about it, because some problems will appear. After all, as before, it will be necessary to steer all the time while driving, since the steering wheel will not want to return to its previous position. But the problem is different - it is crankcase wear. If you need to repair the Hyundai Tucson steering rack, then you should contact the masters of our organization!
It will not be difficult for our employees to understand whether the oil seals are leaking from the Hyundai Tussan, as well as to resolve the issue with the backlash and knocks of the rail.
The very first stage in the repair of the steering rack is diagnostics - our masters will check the Hyundai Tussan running gear. As it turns out, in knocks, the front suspension of the car, in particular, its levers, can be misleading.
Crossover Tussan (Hyundai Tucson) is distinguished by high cross-country ability and ground clearance, spacious interior, good visibility and power. Convenient, simple and inexpensive - this is how car owners briefly describe it. And it is difficult to imagine how it is possible, while driving such a car, to suddenly lose control over it.
It turns out that this is quite real. Loss of control with an emergency on the road can happen to any car, and Tussan is no exception.
It's all about the steering rack - the unit that transfers power from the steering wheel to the wheels. If you do not perform maintenance, diagnostics and repair of the rail in time, it can respond with a breakdown.
Worst of all, the steering wheel is no longer obedient to the driver, and normal maneuvers become impossible on a busy highway.
Why do the parts of the Tussan steering rack break and how to determine the causes of the breakdown by external signs? Among the main features are the following:
Knocking: Among the extraneous noises emitted by malfunctions of the Tussan steering rack, knocking is the most common. It comes from under the front axle of the car when you turn the steering wheel. At first, it is barely audible, but even a quiet knock should not be ignored. It will not go anywhere, over time it will only grow and give it to the steering wheel, until, finally, the entire rack mechanism fails. It may come to the point that there will even be nothing to repair - you will have to completely change the steering rod, which will cost much more Whistle: with a whistle whistling, it is difficult to turn the steering wheel in both directions. Itchy Sound: When a strange itching sound is heard, the steering wheel is just as hard to listen to, but until speed is picked up.
Inappropriate steering behavior
The driver can feel that something is wrong with the steering rack literally with his hands - by the behavior of the steering wheel. You can feel the backlash, it turns on its own, does not return to its original position and vibrates strongly when moving along a straight path.
According to the above signs, even a novice driver can roughly determine which parts are out of order, and figure in his mind how much the repair of the Hyundai Tucson steering rack will result in him. Why there is a knock:
Loose fasteners. This is a fairly common occurrence. It occurs not so much due to improper tightening of the bolts, but rather from vibration due to frequent driving on bumpy roads. The solution to the problem is the simplest, twist, and it is better with the use of engravers.
Support bushings worn out. This is also a common reason, since the material of these bushings is soft metal or plastic. The rail dangles while driving Tussan, which causes such a sound. It would seem that the reason is trivial, but if it is not eliminated immediately, in the future the steering wheel can generally jam.
The protective rubber casing burst. Dirt and dust immediately gets into the gap, which leads to wear of all elements of the rail and, as a result, breakdowns, seizure and repair.
Corrosion. The appearance of rust, which grows with the access of moisture, can lead to the fact that instead of a relatively inexpensive repair, you will have to completely replace the steering rack.
Development of the resource of parts (hinges, crankcase, screw bearings, bushings or central teeth). Nothing will last forever without a replacement.So, if during inspection other parts were not damaged, it is enough to replace the worn one.
Steering wheel play can occur for a variety of reasons:
development of worm gear teeth, distributor rod;
weak spool stop;
wear of the fixing silent blocks;
curvature of the crankcase or shaft (the screw and teeth fit at different angles);
damage to the screw bearing.
That is, due to the mere presence of backlash, it is impossible to tell about its reasons. We need full diagnostics. Only after that it is possible to repair the steering racks of the Hyundai Tussan.
After parking at the left wheel, you can see oil stains - a clear sign that it is definitely time to repair the Tussan steering rack. Fluid leaks can occur if:
Damaged oil seals.
Traces of corrosion have formed on the shaft.
The outlet or discharge tube of the cylinder is depressurized.
Replace damaged parts with new ones. Repair of individual elements is impractical.
With such a sign as "biting the steering wheel", there is a production of worm gear teeth, which will need to be replaced. Difficulties in steering are indicative of corrosion, shaft or crankcase bent. You will have to completely disassemble, clean, repair the Tucson rail and replace damaged parts.
The recommendations of experienced motorists will save you from the need to often repair the Hyundai Tussan rail:
In the cold season, the engine must be warmed up before moving off. This will have a beneficial effect not only on the operation and condition of the steering rack, but also on all systems and components of the car. After warming up, it is worthwhile to smoothly turn the steering wheel to the sides.
Driving on elevations (curbs, speed bumps, etc.) at the extreme position of the steering wheel will quickly disable the steering rack. This also includes sharp accelerations.
Check the integrity of the anthers on the mechanism. A simple inspection will save you the trouble of repairing or replacing the entire unit.
Do not hold the steering wheel in the end position for more than five seconds - the gearbox and seals are under stress.
Fill the oil in a timely manner, and what is important - of high quality. And pay attention - don't you have to do this too often? Does this indicate leaks?
If you find the slightest sign of malfunction, seek the assistance of an experienced technician.
The desire of a motorist to save money is understandable. It is also quite understandable that he wants to find good specialists so that the repair of the Tucson steering rack is completed in a short time and does not have to walk all the time or use the services of public transport or a taxi.
Our company employs narrow-profile specialists with many years of experience. Quality is achieved both by their experience and professional equipment for diagnostics, repairs and stress testing. The client will hear the final price for work and spare parts after diagnostics. All work is guaranteed.
We will be happy to help those who value quality and reliability!

Thus, the steering rack is one of the key components of the entire steering system of a car. When a steering rack malfunction occurs, car owners face the question: buy a new part or decide to repair the faulty rack?
As a rule, the cost of a new part exceeds the repair costs by one and a half to two times, and if you purchase an original rail, then the costs may differ by an order of magnitude. However, a high-quality repair of the rail using reliable and proven spare parts will practically in no way be inferior to the new part.
Prices for repair of steering racks of Hyundai / Hyundai cars:
In general, Hyundai steering racks are quite reliable; nevertheless, frequent rod corrosion can be attributed to the weak points of the rails of Korean cars.
This malfunction is caused by damage to the rail boot. If there is even a slight damage to the boot of the rail, it must be replaced immediately, since moisture and dirt trapped under the boot have a destructive effect on the rod of the rail.
Sometimes the factory clamps that secure the boot to the rail simply loosen, causing the boot to fly off its seat. Such a malfunction requires cleaning, flushing and lubricating the stem, the surface of the boot from the inside, as well as replacing the clamp.
Another common breakdown is steering rack leakage. The cause of such a malfunction is a violation of the seals and damage to the oil seals. It should be noted that the low quality of manufacturing of the steering rack oil seals has long been known to car service specialists. It is not uncommon for liquid stains to appear under a stationary car even under brand new Hyundai vehicles. In this case, an early appeal to a car service will reduce the cost of repairs to a minimum.
Any rack repair is preceded by a preliminary diagnosis of the car's steering system. This helps to pinpoint the cause of the malfunction, to assess the feasibility of repairing or replacing the corresponding parts, and also helps to determine the estimated cost and time of work.
In the event that, as a result of diagnostics, a malfunction of the steering rack is confirmed, disassembly is performed with subsequent troubleshooting of the specified unit. This operation allows you to check the condition of all components of the steering rack.
With a special measuring tool, the actual dimensions of the stem are taken and checked for runout. The degree of wear of the sliding parts is determined and the technical condition of the gear pair is assessed. If necessary, the rod is polished with the subsequent restoration of its nominal size. However, in case of deep corrosion or other serious mechanical damage, the damaged part must be replaced.
Regardless of the type of repair being carried out, when disassembling the steering rack, seals and oil seals are replaced. Also, a prerequisite for repairing the steering rack is the subsequent adjustment of the steering system of the car at a special stand, including the adjustment of the camber-toe-in.
The steering gear is removed for repair or replacement. However, keep in mind that the steering gear is an essential part of driving safety. A poor-quality repair can lead to serious consequences, therefore, if necessary, repair the steering mechanism only in a specialized workshop or replace it with a new one. You will need: keys "10", "12", socket head "14", wrench "12" for pipe fastening nuts, pliers. 1. Remove the front suspension subframe assembly with the steering gear, stabilizer bar and levers (see "Removing and installing the front suspension subframe").
2. Disconnect the hose from the drain pipe attached to the subframe by squeezing the ears of the fastening clamp with pliers and sliding the clamp along the hose. 3. Remove the bolts securing the pipe holders to the bracket of the fastening bracket. 4. . and to the steering box. 5. Remove two bolts each fastening the steering gear to the subframe on the left. 6.. and on the right. 7.. and then remove the steering gear from the subframe. 8. Remove the fastening bracket from the steering box housing. 9. . and a split rubber pad. 10. Remove the bolt of the terminal connection of the steering shaft with the steering shaft. eleven. . and remove the steering shaft with cardan joint. 12. Squeeze the ears of the drain hose clamp with pliers, slide the clamp along the hose. thirteen. . and disconnect the drain hose from the fitting. 14. Unscrew the nut securing the supply pipe to the distributor. 15. . and remove the supply and drain lines, 16. If it is necessary to replace the pipelines of the steering mechanism, unscrew the nuts of their fastening to the distributor. 17.. and to the crankcase of the mechanism, then remove the pipes. 18. If there are traces of fluid leakage through the thread of the drain hose union, unscrew the union. nineteen. . and replace the rubber o-ring.

20. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal. When installing the steering gear, make sure that the rack is in the middle (neutral) position, and the position of the steering wheel corresponds to a straight-line movement. 21. Fill with liquid and bleed the power steering system (see "Bleeding the power steering system"). 22. Check and, if necessary, adjust the angles of the front wheels (see "Checking and adjusting the angles of the wheels").
