In detail: do-it-yourself repair of VAZ 2109 steering tips from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
The steering tips, as well as the ball joints on the VAZ 2109-2108, must be changed at regular intervals. Of course, if there are no signs of wear, knocks from the front suspension, then it is better not to go there. If symptoms of increased wear are heard, then new tips must be installed.
To carry out this repair with our own hands, we need the following tools and accessories:
The first step is to raise the car with a jack, or rather its front part, and then remove the wheel to gain more convenient access. Then with pliers we bend and pull out the cotter pin, which fixes the nut that secures the tip to the steering knuckle of the rack:
After that, you can unscrew the nut with a 19 key, and it is most convenient to use a union nut. To apply a more powerful lever, you can put a pipe on the end of the key, if necessary:
Then try to rip off the nut fixing the tip to the steering rod, for which you will need a 27 wrench:
If, instead of a nut, the entire coupling is unscrewed, then you will then have to remove it with it, after which, at the very end of the procedure, try to unscrew the tip on the spot.
Now we need a special puller for ball joints and other hinge joints. We insert one of its levers under the rubber band of the tip, and the other end should rest against the finger from below. This is clearly shown in the photo below:
Next, you need to turn the puller bolt until the steering tip finger pops out of its place:
If the nut on the rod has moved from its place, you can try to unscrew the tip. It is worth noting that you need to turn it clockwise:

New tips can now be purchased and replaced. The price of these parts for a VAZ 2109-2108 is about 600 rubles per pair. Keep in mind that they are different: that is, the right and left handpieces are different! The installation is carried out in the reverse order.
Replacing the steering tip with a VAZ 2109 will take literally half an hour, if you have the right tools. Even the presence of a pit is not necessary for the procedure.
A lot has already been said about how important it is to monitor the health of the steering. However, we will still focus on them. A small educational program about why the timely replacement of steering tips on the VAZ 2109 is so important.
First of all, safety. On the road, the wheel makes a huge amount of vertical and horizontal vibrations, the steering tip, the ball joint, the silent blocks, the wheel bearings - all this is under tremendous stress. Therefore, it may happen that the tip finger will simply rip out of the seat. Further, the consequences are unpredictable, it all depends on the speed of movement.
Now let's proceed directly to the instructions. First of all, you need to get long keys for 27 and 2. Speaking "long", we mean about 80 cm, not less, otherwise it is simply unrealistic to break the locking clutches.
If we change the right tip, then we turn the steering wheel to the left, if the left, then vice versa. In general, if it is possible to carry out operations with a removed wheel, then this is exactly what you should do. Using a 22 key, unscrew the nut fixing the tip in the bipod of the rack, then dry this tip with hammer blows.
Next, we open the hood, find the rods that go from the rail, after which we hold the clutch with a key of 24, and unscrew the nut with the other, by 27. On the right side, the nut is unscrewed to the front, and on the left - to the salon, this is worth remembering. Now we remove the old tip.We install a new one by screwing it about the same number of threads as the old one. After that, tighten the clutch locknut.

When driving, knocks appeared in the front suspension - a steering rod for replacement. We recommend monitoring this unit and checking it every 20-30 thousand km., Depending on wear and tear, change it in a timely manner. In this manual, we will consider how to properly remove and replace the steering rod and tip on the VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 with our own hands.
You will need: a new tie rod, a set of keys, a vice, a jack or a lift.
We jack the car, remove the wheel and take out the wire from the steering tip nut.
Next, press out the tip finger.
Then you need to unlock the tie rod nut.
We unscrew the thrust nut and loosen the adjacent one.
We take out the steering rod outward.
We fix the rod in a vice and unscrew the steering tip.
Remove the steering tip.
We change it to a new one and, with a new steering rod, we assemble the suspension in the reverse order.
Welcome! The steering tips are the basis of the steering rod, they are made in the form of a hinge that is pressed into the body, this hinge is inserted into the hole of the pivot arm of the rack and when you turn the steering wheel, this hinge moves the wheel in the direction you need and thereby turns the car.
Note! To replace the tips, you need to stock up on: A special puller that comes especially for ball joints, as well as all the keys that are in your arsenal and pliers with a screwdriver!
Summary:
Where is the steering head located? As we have already said, it consists of a body and a ball joint, while the joint at the tip is inserted into the hole (indicated by a blue arrow), to easily find it, you will have to remove the wheel from the car and look at the telescopic rack, just below in the photo it was indicated by a red arrow , the location of the tie rod tip in the chassis of the vehicle.
When should you change the steering tip? The tip has an anther, for clarity, we indicated it with a green arrow in the photo above, if this anther is torn, then immediately without thinking change the tip, even if in your opinion it is still in good condition, then after a while it will still come out out of order and the plague, the sooner you replace it, the better it will be, if the anthers are torn, dirt gets clogged into the hinge and water gets into, because of this, the grease is quickly washed out and instead of it dirt particles appear in the hinge, because of this there is a backlash at the steering wheel, it begins to vibrate and the car begins to respond much worse when you turn the steering wheel of the car.
Note! The tips become unusable due to several reasons, the first is when the boot breaks, the second is from time to time, when driving at the ball joint, friction occurs between itself and the hole into which it is inserted (In the rack), well, and the third reason is not enough grease that the manufacturer did not really put in, or that just dried out and washed off from time to time!
Note! Before changing the tip, make sure that this is really what your car needs, to check the tip for backlash, do the following operation, drive the car into the inspection hole and grab the steering rod with your hand (the steering tip is still on it) and shake the steering rod with your hand. (Down, up), while you will wobble the thrust, look at the ball joint of the steering tip, if it wobbles (Have play) then in this case change the steering tip, in the near future to a new one (Another tip, in exactly the same way check), if it turns out that both tips are in good working order and work normally, and there is still play at the steering wheel, then look at the steering rack, maybe it is to blame for this play!
Withdrawal: one.Let us briefly explain how to replace the steering tip there is nothing complicated, especially when there is a puller at hand, well, let's start, first remove the wheel (For how to remove a wheel, read the article: "Changing a wheel on a car") from the car, then take grease WD-40 or something like it and brush the nut that secures the steering link joint to the swivel arm and, taking the pliers, remove the cotter pin that prevents this nut from turning away (It is indicated by the red arrow), and when it is removed, completely unscrew the nut and remove it (indicated by the blue arrow) and using the special. puller, press out the ball joint pin from the hole into which it enters (see the small photo) and then loosen the nut (indicated by the green arrow) with a wrench, due to which the tip is attached to the tie rod, then unscrew the tip by turning it counterclockwise by hand (When turning be sure to count how many revolutions the tip will make, tighten the new one by exactly the same amount).
Note! If suddenly you need to change the boot at the steering tip or fill it with more grease, then you will need to remove it as follows, first the metal ring will need to be removed along the finger of the ball joint (see photo 1), then prying it with a screwdriver, remove the stopper which holds the boot on the hinge (see photo 2) and you can safely then remove the boot itself from the hinge and stuff the grease into the hinge, just reconnect the boot so that it fits into the groove and fasten it tightly so that no dirt gets under it moisture!
Installation: The tip on the steering rod is put in the reverse order of removal and so that the camber does not get too lost, turn it back to the previous speed as mentioned earlier.
Additional video clip: You can understand in more detail how the steering tip is replaced on such a car as the ninth model Lada, in the video, which is located just below:
VIDEO
On a VAZ-2109 car, the steering tips are replaced every 20-40 thousand kilometers. Of course, this value may be different, it depends directly on the roads on which the car usually drives, on the driving style. Neat motorists can drive on the same steering tips for quite a long time. Steering is one of the most important components in a car. Your and passengers' safety directly depends on him. It is extremely important to check serviceability from time to time, make repairs. The steering consists of a rack, rods, tips, a column.
It is the steering tips that most often wear out on the car. To check them, you need to use a flyover, a lift or a viewing pit. It is not very convenient to work by lifting the front of the car on jacks, since there is little space. Inspect the steering end boots carefully. If they are cracked, it is advisable to repair immediately. It is not known how old these cracks are. And literally in a few hours after one, a rather large amount of dust and dirt can penetrate inside.
This will cause the ball joint to wear more heavily. Even flushing followed by applying fresh grease and replacing the boot may not save the situation. Check the amount of play at each rod end. It should not exceed a value of one and a half millimeters. If more, then it is necessary to replace the steering tips. Another sign of wear is the presence of abnormal sounds from the steering side.
On average, on the VAZ-2109, steering tips are replaced, as already noted, approximately every 20-40 thousand kilometers. They have a longer service life only if the car constantly drives on perfectly flat, without pits and bumps, roads. It is advisable to carry out repairs, regardless of when the tips were replaced, if there is one of the following diagnoses:
Failure to obey the steering wheel commands.
Strong recoil to the steering wheel when driving.
The presence of knocks, squeaks, howling.
It is extremely important to drive the car into the inspection hole or lift from time to time in order to diagnose the steering. In the event that the grease evaporates from under the boot, the situation can be slightly improved. Using a syringe with a needle, pour some engine oil under the boot.
Of course, you need to buy the steering tips directly. It is advisable to choose the production of one of three companies:
"Track Champion".
Stock, which are supplied to the AvtoVAZ conveyor.
Belmag.
It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that AvtoVAZ produces cars, not spare parts for them! Therefore, to say that the steering tips are produced by "AvtoVAZ" is fundamentally wrong. All spare parts are produced on the territory of our vast country, as well as in the near and far abroad.
It would be more correct to say that you need to purchase stock items. These are the ones that are installed by the vehicle manufacturer. But this does not mean that they are produced by the same plant. It is highly undesirable to buy remanufactured steering rod ends. They are unlikely to last more than one or two months. If we take into account the fact that steering tips, the price of which does not exceed 400-450 rubles. can be found in any store, it turns out to be easier to purchase new ones. You will also need to buy nuts and locking pins. Anthers, as a rule, are already installed on the handpieces, there is lubricant inside. And the most important thing is the steering tip puller, you cannot do without it.
All work can be performed without a viewing hole or overpass. Especially if you have a carburetor car. It has a lot fewer components under the hood that get in the way of the job. Be sure to install stops under the rear wheels so that the car does not roll during repairs. Loosen the wheel bolts first, then jack up the side to be repaired. After that, you can completely unscrew the wheel bolts and remove them. Using pliers, remove the cotter pins that are holding the lug nuts from turning. And then on the VAZ-2109, the replacement of the steering tips proceeds without problems.
Unscrew the nut with a 19 spanner wrench. Now you need to disconnect the tip directly from the rod. To do this, you need to use a key 27. It is advisable to unscrew the retaining nuts before the tip is removed from the steering knuckle. When unscrewing the tip, be sure to count the number of revolutions. When installing a new one, screw it in the same number of turns. This will allow you to at least roughly adjust the wheel alignment.
It is usually difficult to disassemble the unit in which the steering rod 2109 is connected to the tip. After all, dirt, water very often get on it, and most importantly, a constantly hot engine is nearby. This leads to contamination of the thread. And even a penetrating lubricant is powerless. Therefore, you can use a little trick. It is necessary to completely remove the steering rod together with the tip.
To do this, use a 10 key to unscrew the metal bar that covers the rail. Then, using a 22 wrench, unscrew the bolt, having previously wrung out the lock washer. After that, you can remove the steering wheel without any problems. Using a steering tip puller, remove the joint from the steering knuckle. Then heat the threaded connection. Tap the nuts gently with a small hammer. In this case, all dirt and rust will be destroyed, the threaded connection will be released. Using the wrenches, it is enough to unscrew the nuts and install a new tip.
This is how do-it-yourself replacement of steering tips is carried out on a VAZ-2109 car. There is nothing complicated in this procedure; at the stage of the repair, the help of specialists is not required. It is only important to know that it is imperative to adjust the toe and camber angles of the front wheels after the repair.Otherwise, destruction of the tread pattern on the tires cannot be avoided.

When driving, knocks appeared in the front suspension - a steering rod for replacement. We recommend keeping an eye on this node and checking it every 20-30 thousand km. change in a timely manner depending on wear. In this manual, we will consider how to properly remove and replace the steering rod and tip on the VAZ 2108, 2109, 21099 with our own hands.
You will need: a new tie rod, a set of keys, a vice, a jack or a lift.

The steering tips, as well as the ball joints on the VAZ 2109-2108, must be changed at regular intervals. Of course, if there are no signs of wear, knocks from the front suspension, then it is better not to go there. If symptoms of increased wear are heard, then new tips must be installed.
To carry out this repair with our own hands, we need the following tools and accessories:
swivel puller
key 19
pliers
open-end wrench for 27
The first step is to raise the car with a jack, or rather its front part, and then remove the wheel to gain more convenient access.
While unscrewing, count the number of revolutions made in order to tighten by the same amount when installing. This will allow you to maintain approximately the previously established toe-in.
New tips can now be purchased and replaced. The price of these parts for a VAZ 2109-2108 is about 600 rubles per pair. Keep in mind that they are different: that is, the right and left handpieces are different! The installation is carried out in the reverse order.
There is absolutely nothing pleasant about broken steering tips. Therefore, if such a malfunction is detected, it is necessary to take immediate action to eliminate them.
It is important to note that the ends of the steering rods of the VAZ 2109 are in many ways similar to the designs of other representatives of the AvtoVAZ lineup. But if we compare, for example, with the VAZ 2110, where the tip is screwed onto the rod, then in the VAZ 2109, on the contrary - the tip is screwed into the rod, that is, it has an internal thread.
Having discovered the primary signs of a breakdown of the steering end switches of the rods, you can finally decide for yourself that it is dangerous to delay more - it is dangerous for you and the surrounding road users.
Signs of a malfunction of this node include:
When turning the steering wheel, the backlash increases noticeably;
There is a constant knocking coming from the front of the vehicle;
The car does not hold well enough on the road, even if it is perfectly flat;
The anthers of the rods are torn. This leads to an even greater rate of wear on the element.
There are three main reasons that lead to the need for such an event as replacing the steering tips.
Peculiarities
Time spares no one, therefore, as the operating period, diluted by far from ideal road conditions, wears out the tip wears out. It constantly rotates, and wear and tear of rotating, moving elements is quite natural. Therefore, when you know that the life of your old handpieces is coming to an end, we recommend that you monitor them more closely. They can refuse at any time.
Just like in the case of the ball joint, the ends of the tie rods in domestic nines are enclosed in a protective boot. During operation, this protective casing often breaks, which sometimes leads to rather sad consequences. For example, if dirt, dust, debris gets inside the boot, this will provoke even faster wear of parts. Therefore, the tips will definitely not live the entire prescribed life span.
Not enough lubricant
What does friction lead to when there is no lubrication? That's right, no good. Therefore, if the handpieces had a small amount of lubricant, very soon it will be used up and will no longer be able to perform its functions. As a result, the elements of the steering system wear out and require urgent replacement.
Whatever one may say, but under any circumstances, replacing the end switches of the steering rods is a matter of time. To extend this time between replacements, purchase only quality products.
VIDEO
To make sure that all the sounded signs are caused precisely by the tips, this fact should be checked.
VIDEO
So let's check if the tips are really to blame. For this:
Drive the car onto an overpass or place it on a viewing pit;
Engage the handbrake, install the anti-roll bars under the wheels.Security measures have not yet been canceled;
Go under the car and grab the steering rod with your hands. It needs to be pulled up and down with a rather impressive effort;
If the element is really worn out, it can be determined with the naked eye, since the backlash in the hinge will be significant;
Do not forget to carry out the same operation with the second end of the steering rods.
When changing the rod ends, get a pair at once. Leaving one new and one old element in work is a big mistake that can lead to the most unpredictable consequences.
Well, now we proceed directly to the replacement procedure. You cannot name a difficult job, but without a certain set of tools you will not be able to achieve the desired result.
When there is no dedicated puller
Therefore, in service you must have:
Reliable jack;
Balloon wrench;
Pliers;
Spanner wrenches or open-end wrenches (the first option is better);
Tie rod end puller;
Almighty WD40 Rust Remover;
Hammer;
Brush for working on metal.
In the process of replacing the ends of the tie rods, many people relax after dismantling the old elements. In fact, reassembly is an equally important stage in the repair, on which the overall result largely depends.
VIDEO
To assemble the knot correctly and correctly, follow the instructions.
On a brand new tip, mark the distance to which you will need to screw the suspension element;
Check if there is enough grease on the device. Often, the manufacturer adds a small amount, which will not be enough for the normal, long-term operation of the unit. Therefore, be sure to add high-quality lubricant;
Screw the tip inside the tie rod to the specified distance according to the marks;
Insert the end stop pin into the shock absorber hole;
Tighten the steering wheel fixing nut;
Replace the cotter pin. If the old one is worn out, it is better to replace it;
Put on the wheel, tighten the bolts, lower the car to the ground.
Often, in order to save money, many change only one handpiece because the other is still serviceable. But such savings are imaginary. In practice, it is more correct and more profitable to replace both elements at once.
VIDEO
After completing the replacement procedure on two wheels, tighten the bolts while the machine is suspended from the jack, lower the vehicle and fully tighten the wheel bolts. Let's hope you bought quality parts and won't be bothered soon by the steering tips.
If, with a sharp turn of the steering wheel from the neutral position (the wheels are straight) in the area of the steering rack, extraneous knocks and noises are heard, this means that the steering rack is faulty on your VAZ-2109, 21099 car, and you need to urgently repair it. An alternative to repairing is to tighten the steering rack nut with a special wrench. This method can have a positive effect (although not always), but with possible consequences. For example, if the nut is tightened too tightly, then the resistance to the force of rotation of the steering wheel will increase, as well as more serious consequences, up to the steering wheel jamming, which can be extremely dangerous while driving.
It is better to repair the steering rack VAZ-2109, 21099 with an assistant, although you can do it yourself. Among the necessary tools: a steering rod puller (photo 18) and WD-40 fluid, which can be bought at any car market.
Below is the procedure for repairing the steering rack (it may be slightly simplified, but during the repair you will understand everything):
1.First of all, raise the front of the vehicle to achieve full extension of both front wheels. Anti-slope bars should be placed under the rear wheels (photo 1);
2. Remove the front wheels. At the same time, we check the condition of the anthers on the steering fingers (photo 2);
3. Now you need to get access to the steering rack mount. It is necessary to disconnect the gas adsorber, as well as the alarm siren, if it is available and installed in this place (photo 3).We remove the clamp with the wires from the adsorber, and as far as the hoses allow, we take them to the side (again, photo 3). After removing these units, access to the steering rack mount is free (photo 4); 4. In the case of installing a used steering rack, you should pay attention to the condition of the boot boot and the silent blocks of the steering rods (photo 5); 5. Now we put the steering wheel in neutral position (when the wheels are looking straight ahead). Using a spanner wrench, or with the head to the cardan joint, unscrew the bolt from the spline connection, which is located near the pedal assembly (photo 6, 7, 8); 6. We clean the attachment point of the steering rod to the suspension struts of the car from dirt (photo 9);
7. After the attachment points are cleaned, using pliers, pull out the locking cotter pin from the connection (photo 10), and then unscrew the steering tip nut (photo 11); 8. Next, install the puller (purchased at the car market, photo 12), tightening the puller nut and gently tapping the puller from below with a hammer until the fingers of the steering tip come out of the conical connection (photo 13); 9. Now, having returned under the hood, it is necessary to unscrew the nuts on the steering rack (photo 14, 15); 10. Using a screwdriver, pull off the steering rack from the mounts (photo 16) and pull it out through the window in the wheel well (photo 17); 11. We proceed to the installation of the steering rack. In order to catch the required middle position of the steering rack, you must first install the steering pins in the racks, after which we install the shaft on the splines in the cabin. The steering shaft in the passenger compartment has a free play, so you can easily install it in the desired position. Be careful, there is a recess in the steering rack for the clamp bolt, and it is necessary to install it so that the clamp is opposite the recess, this will allow you to easily install the bolt back.
12. Now we assemble the entire steering assembly in reverse order.
If at the same time you have replaced the steering rods, then it is necessary to restore the wheel alignment. The technology for repairing the steering rack on the VAZ-2109,21099 is similar to repairing the racks on all VAZ cars with front-wheel drive.
Replacing steering tips without fail requires adjustment of the camber, it can be adjusted independently, but nevertheless the master recommends doing this procedure for a hundred. And so, see the detailed video instructions on how to remove and replace the tie rod ends on the VAZ 2109, 2108 with your own hands.
In order for the procedure in a garage to be as successful as possible, you need to know a few small nuances and tricks, all these secrets will be revealed to you by the master. In short, the point is that in addition to the standard set of keys, you will need a long wooden stick or, as in the case of replacing tips on a dozen, - a vernier caliper. The removal of the tips of the steering rods also produces some regularity. Watch the video to the end and you will find out how it is produced replacement of steering tips VAZ 2109 at home.

Beginning to screw up the controls on your favorite nine? The steering wheel began to play, obey less, vibrate? Perhaps it's time to replace the tie rod ends, to please your car with fresh parts? This detailed instruction will accurately describe the details of the tip replacement process, as well as the causes of breakage, breakdown diagnostics and other tips. A training video will help you see the process with your own eyes. So let's get started. The task is to replace the steering tips on the VAZ 2109.
Reasons for broken tips
Types of steering faults
Tools for the job
Replacing tips
Withdrawal
Installation
Conclusion
Steering lugs are not as complex mechanisms as, for example, an internal combustion engine or gearbox. Therefore, there are not so many reasons for the breakdown, but now we will list them.
Replacing steering tips VAZ 2109
The first is wear and tear over time. So it, the tip, is designed so that it works constantly rotating. And now that people from such a life break down, that the tips. Constant friction contributes to the rapid wear of parts and, as a result, the exit from the working state.
It is completely impossible to hinder this process. The only way out is to buy quality steering tips. But, again, sooner or later they still need to be changed.
The second reason is a torn boot. Like the ball joint, on the VAZ 2109 the tie rod end is equipped with a protective boot. During the operation of the car, it breaks and entails not good consequences. Which? Dust and sand gets inside the joint, which increases the wear of the parts and leads to faster wear.
The third reason is insufficient lubrication. As you know, friction without lubrication is not good. As a result of not having enough lubricant, the handpiece breaks down faster.
As you can see, with all the desire, replacing the steering tips with a VAZ 2109 is an inevitable process in any case. One good thing is that the price of the handpieces remains acceptable.
Advice! When shopping for tips, listen to dealers as well as other car owners. Get quality tips!
Now we will diagnose the steering of the VAZ 2109. Let's try to determine what is the reason for the violation of the quality of car control - a tip, or something else? So:
If the steering wheel began to play more and more, then the tip may not be the reason for this. The rail may also be the cause of the backlash - it may need to be tightened, repaired, or even replaced.
The steering rack may need to be replaced or repaired
Of course, steering tips are one of the first causes of poor driving performance. How are they diagnosed? This does not require a lot of investment and intelligence.
For diagnostics, it is enough to drive the car onto an inspection pit or overpass and carry out several operations.
On the installed car, we put the parking brake, wheel chocks, just in case.
Going under the car, you need to grasp the steering rod with your hands and pull it up and down with sufficient effort.
If it’s time to change the tip, the backlash in its hinge will be noticeable and even noticeable to the naked eye.
The same operation must be done on the other handpiece.
Remember! If, nevertheless, the tips were in good condition, do not stop, but inspect the steering rack for play. Read other articles or contact the service station.
Replacing the VAZ 2109 steering rod ends, although not a difficult process, is not done with bare hands. Here's what you need to have to successfully complete tip replacement:
Jack
Balonnik
Pliers
Spanners (heads); extreme case - open-end wrenches
Rust cleaner (WD-40 or equivalent)
Tie rod end remover (desirable but dispensed with)
Replacing the VAZ 2109 steering tip is more convenient with a puller
Now let's move on directly to the very process of replacing the tips of the steering rods on a VAZ 2109 car and the like.
We start by removing the tip that has already worked its way out:
Replacing the VAZ 2109 tie rod tip using a special puller
The vehicle should be parked on an inspection pit or overpass.
We install wheel chocks, put the car on the handbrake and gear.
We take a balonnik or a suitable head with a longer crank and unscrew the wheel bolts. Do not unscrew them completely!
Next, we set up a stable jack and raise the car so that the wheel comes off the ground. Next, you need to substitute a stump or something similar under the side of the car.
Remember! Do not work with a vehicle suspended from a jack - it is dangerous to health and life!
Remove the wheel completely and turn the steering wheel to the side to provide good access to the workspace.
Using a metal brush, we clean the thread of the tip and spray it with a wedge (WD-40). Both threads should be cleaned and sprayed - both the thread on the pin and the one that is screwed into the steering rod.
Next, using the pliers (pliers), unpin the steering tip connection.
Next, take a box wrench and unscrew the tip securing nut. If it is tight to unscrew, you need to add WD and apply more lever.
After the nut has been successfully twisted, we take up the removal of the tip finger from the shock absorber strut. For this we use a special steering tip puller.
We put the end of the puller behind the shock absorber strut, screw in the pusher until the finger comes out of engagement.
Often, an ordinary driver does not have such a puller. What to do in this case? There is an exit:
Without a puller, the tip can be removed as follows. All it takes is a hammer, a pry bar and a little effort.
A nut should be screwed onto the steering tip finger so that the finger does not stick out.
With a pry bar we rest against the protrusion of the rack and give the steering draft up.
Then, with direct hammer blows at the junction, knock the tip up (see photo).
The most important thing in this process is accuracy. Hit it aimingly so as not to damage other suspension parts of your beloved car during the repair process.
The finger is out of engagement, and we continue to repair:
Now you need to unscrew the lever from the steering rod.
Before doing this, it is important to measure the distance the tip has been screwed in. This is done to more accurately fit the new tip to the camber angles.
You can measure the distance by eye, by the residual marks on the old tip, put a mark, or you can measure it with a measuring device, if there is one.
Further, the tip is simply unscrewed from the traction with your own hands.

VAZ 2109 steering tips are lubricated without fail
On the new tip, it is also advisable to apply a mark - how far it will need to be screwed in.
Check the amount of grease and add if necessary.
We screw the tip into the steering rod until the desired moment.
Insert the tip finger into the hole in the shock absorber strut.
We tighten the steering tip fastening nut.
Install the cotter pin.
Putting the wheel back on, tightening the bolts.
We lower the car on wheels.
That's it - one tip is changed!

Of course, in order to save money, you can change only one tip, and the second one is "still similar". On the other hand, in order to save time and effort, it is much more profitable to change both at once. After completing the repair, remember to stretch the wheel bolts on the ground and not in the hanging distance. Monitor the condition of your car at the proper level. Remember the tips that were given in this article, look at the photos and other materials. Bon Voyage!
