Two years ago, we decided to use maternity capital to improve our modest living conditions. We allocated a smaller room for the children's room - only 10 square meters.
The room was in poor condition, there was not much money, and we decided to do the repairs ourselves.

We already have experience. I also had a friend who was a professional plasterer. She undertook to advise us on new materials and help with the most difficult moments of the repair. For which many thanks to her.
The old wooden window was replaced with a plastic one. We entrusted this part entirely to professionals.

After removing the wallpaper and ceiling tiles, the whole picture was revealed.
I panicked a little: the three-centimeter-thick plaster lagged behind the bricks, wide and deep rustications were revealed on the ceiling, the whitewash bubbled and cracked.
And I had a little helper who was very active.

I took a brush, warm water and a spatula. She put on gloves and began to wet the surface of the ceiling. When the coating got wet, I cleaned everything with a spatula. Down to the slabs.
Subsequently, the plates were impregnated with reinforcing impregnation, the seams were sealed with plaster, and a reinforcing tape was glued on it. Glued glass wallpaper and covered everything with putty. The dried putty was rubbed with special sponges (I have never seen them before, but you can appreciate the effect in the photo - the coating is perfectly even and shines even before painting).

Walls are easier in the sense that you don’t have to stand with your hands up all the time.
It turned out to be more difficult that it was not rational and expensive to remove a thick layer of plaster to the brick. Although on two walls still had to do it. Somewhere with a hammer, somewhere just breaking off pieces with your hands.

Where the plaster was left, collapses of already plastered walls occurred several times. It was a shame and a pity for the spent forces. But in order to completely remove the plaster, it would take so much more effort and investment that we abandoned this idea. Under the layers, wires were found that were not marked on the plans and it was not clear where they were going.
We coped with this task as well.

In this frame, you can see that we moved the switch to the wall of the niche, so now the children can turn the light on and off themselves, and the corner has become perfectly even. This corner was made with new plaster - quick-drying and very easy to work with.
Here I called Olga for help.

The doors were installed by a professional. I closed the gaps myself. Construction tape helps to protect the door covering, but I did not have enough confidence to bring the spatula evenly, I was still afraid of damaging the film. A rubber spatula helps, but I could not achieve a perfectly flat surface. Then I smoothed a little with the same sponge as the ceiling, and it got better.

There were problems with the putty.Once it started raining, the putty dried longer than usual, and when I tried to apply the finishing layer, I got this effect:

And another time I found on the floor everything that I put on the wall the day before. We have been trying to figure out the reason for a long time. They primed the walls, let them dry some more ... and again picked up layers of putty from the floor. Then we compared the batch numbers on the bags and realized that one bag is different. Removed it, opened a new one - everything went perfectly.
The next step was the removal of the coating from the wooden floor, its strengthening and hardboard flooring. My husband was engaged in this, my little assistant and I were resting in the country.
When everything was ready, we chose linoleum, wallpaper and the color of the walls.
Gluing non-woven wallpaper for painting is a real pleasure. Even if the walls are not perfectly even and in some places the difference in height is up to 3 centimeters, this is not a problem. Coated the walls with glue and glued the strips. When they dried, they applied paint in two colors. Rollers for wallpaper and ceiling were different - for textured wallpaper, the pile is longer. The paint was diluted according to the instructions. Laid down perfectly, the color has not changed in two years.
Moreover, the green one is the budget Rainbow, and the yellow one is the expensive Dulux. In fairness: yellow paint is more convenient to work with. Fits perfectly and gives a silky finish. Green matte, slightly rough.

Heating pipes and radiators were painted by Dulux for radiators. Tinting was done in the store - a perfect match for the shades of paint for the walls and the radiator. Dries very quickly. In the photo, the light falls so that the battery is bright, in real life it merges with the wall. Although now it does not matter - the furniture closes everything.

A little later, we made a mezzanine, ordering sawing and edging of parts.
In general, the devil is not so terrible as I painted it for myself. I was able to do it on a modest budget and with a three year old.
Thank you very much for the disinterested help to Olga and my sister, who gave me yellow and terracotta paints (I still wear the second can like a cat with a fish bladder, and I just don’t dare to make myself a Moroccan-style wall).

green paint 700 rubles for a jar paid, along with tinting, they gave me yellow :)

Plaster 2 bags, now it costs closer to 500, then they took half the price.
Putty oil-glue bag 20 kg cost 200-250, it took about 3 bags (I can’t say for sure, since I was making a corridor at the same time)
Adhesive for vinyl wallpaper and ceiling 150 about per pack * 2 pcs.

And new brushes. spatulas, “wing” for wallpapering, gloves, masking tape, mesh for seams - add 1000.
Impregnation for walls and ceilings.
so this part is ok 5000-6000.
Linoleum took at a discount, but Tarkett. But I don’t know the price of hardboard at all.
In any case, with doors, windows, it turned out no more than 25.
