In detail: do-it-yourself bathroom repair in a panel house from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
When carrying out repairs in an apartment, it will certainly come to a bathroom with a toilet. If you have some experience, skills and decide to make a do-it-yourself bathroom renovation, first answer a few questions:
what do you want to get in the final result from bathroom and toilet renovation;
how much you expect to spend on repairs;
What kind of repair is needed: cosmetic or major.
The bathroom premise is perhaps the leader among all the others in terms of the number of visits per day, so you need to approach it responsibly and take into account such characteristic nuances as high humidity, steam generation and temperature drops.
The renovation process will begin with the dismantling of old and installation of new water pipes. You should not do this type of work yourself, unless of course you are a professional plumber. Otherwise, you are in for a flood and a lot of trouble. If you decide to do this on your own, buy plastic water and sewer pipes.
For sewer pipes, the connection is made using rubber gaskets, and for water pipes, a soldering iron. After completing the installation, you must check the connections for the possibility of leaks.
The location of communications must be carefully planned in advance so that in the future it does not hinder the progress of work.
Since the bathroom is a very humid room, then the material for surface finishing must be moisture resistant and not be afraid of a sharp change in temperature. You need to rid the walls and ceiling of the previous

If you have a large area, you can sheathe the walls with moisture-resistant plasterboard. Further, the surfaces are covered with a primer, which will also serve as protection against fungal diseases. After final drying, you can proceed to further work. For finishing, you can choose moisture-resistant wallpaper, painting materials or ceramic tiles.
If you have a combined bathroom, you can choose materials for finishing in two colors, thereby visually dividing the space.
The most important condition is compliance with your wishes, taste preferences and, of course, the presence of harmony is important. To lay the tiles, stock up on glue, the tiles themselves, a level and a spatula for applying the mortar. Place the glue on the wrong side of the tile and press it firmly to the surface. Do the same with the rest. Laying should be started in the direction from the floor to the ceiling.
If necessary, the material can be cut with a special tool. When lining the walls, take into account the location of the heated towel rail, which must also be replaced. Choose the battery that you like best, since the assortment in the store is simply huge.
When carrying out repairs yourself, you are solely responsible for the selection of material and design for the room. When separating the ceiling, give preference to moisture resistant plasterboard or plastic panels. These materials are quite simple to install and operate. And their fasteners are made on a metal frame.
When installing, provide holes for mounting lighting fixtures. Feel free to experiment with the color of the ceiling, making it to match the wall decoration.
In apartments with an old layout, the bathroom has a very small area, which needs to be maximized, at least visually.This can be achieved with the help of color schemes and little tricks: use mirrors, they perfectly enlarge the space visually.
Opt for underfloor heating, which is installed with a special electrically heated floor covering, or with hot water pipes (called a water floor).
For flooring, you can use laminate, ceramic tiles, parquet or linoleum.
The main selection criteria are moisture resistance, resistance to temperature changes and the absence of a slippery surface.
Following all the above recommendations, you can carry out an independent repair of the bathroom. However, be prepared for the fact that you will spend a lot of time, however, the result will fully justify your costs.

The washroom seems to be the smallest room in the house, and the hassle is the most. It takes a lot of time to install plumbing. And I already regret that we did not make the bathroom in a retro style. Here in the photo she looks very much even nothing. Everything is done in the style of romanticism. And by the way, we put the washing machine in the kitchen. Nowadays, few people install it in the bathroom.
Repairing a toilet in an apartment is not an easy task, despite the seemingly small amount of work. The lion's share of the difficulties is connected precisely with the size of the room and with the installation of plumbing and pipes in the toilet: risers, wiring, sewers. Of course, it is better to entrust specific work to professionals, but it is quite possible to cope with cosmetic repairs without outside help. Let's find out how to make repairs in the toilet with our own hands, saving time, nerves and money, and find out where it should start.
Even a small repair of a toilet in a panel house will require a large number of different tasks. In this small room there are many different communications: piping, sewerage, heating, lighting. Replacement of the toilet itself is often required. In some cases, a defective statement for overhaul may be required.
First you need to decide on the sequence of repairs in the toilet. Renovation begins in an old house or in a new building with the development of design and calculation of the necessary materials. It is advisable to carry out further stages of repair in the following order:
removing old coatings from ceilings and walls;
replacement of heating risers and sewerage pipes, installation of toilet installations;
replacement of wiring (if necessary);
room cleaning;
preparation of the floor, pouring the screed, laying the floor covering;
installation of wall coverings (wallpaper, tiles, panels);
if necessary - assembly of a sanitary cabinet;
installation of a toilet bowl;
installation of a new door.
Even the most modest toilet renovation takes a lot of time and requires a significant investment, since plumbing is expensive. The most inexpensive repair option in the toilet is a simple cosmetic one, when the drain or wiring is not changed, but only the ceiling and walls are refreshed.
Quite often, the toilet is a tiny room in which, as they say, you cannot turn around. In houses of the 137 series, the toilet, in which, in addition to the riser and pipes, a ventilation shaft is also located, is so small that there is practically no free space between the toilet bowl and the door. Within such a small space, the development of a design before starting repairs requires a special approach. When thinking over the interior of the toilet, it is necessary to take into account some important nuances.
The central object of the toilet is the toilet. First of all, it should be comfortable. Snow-white sanitary ware looks best, although other colors can be chosen. The main thing is that it fits the general interior.
A great option for a small room is a built-in toilet.This is a practical solution: the tank and sewer pipes are removed into the plumbing cabinet, dirt, dust and microbes do not accumulate on them. Cleaning becomes much easier. In addition, the toilet in the installation moves a few centimeters deeper into the toilet, which makes staying in a small room more comfortable.
Most often, heating pipes and water meters are installed in the toilet. It is also recommended to sew them into a beautiful sanitary cabinet. The interior will only benefit from this. Opposite the meters and taps, a hinged hatch should be provided so that at any time you can turn off the water or see the readings.
It is recommended to decorate a small toilet in light colors, as they visually increase the space. At the same time, it is better to choose a dark color for the floor.
If you are tired of standard solutions, you can search for ideas on the Internet and create an unusual toilet interior in a new building. An interesting option is shown in the following photo.
You can decorate the toilet with wallpaper or paint the walls in an unusual way, but you should avoid aggressive tones or excessive variegation.
A black and white toilet will look stylish and non-standard, especially if you choose high-tech black plumbing.
The load on the toilet room is quite specific. There is often high humidity, pollution and unpleasant odors. Therefore, the toilet should be used finishing materials that do not absorb odors and dirt, resistant to high levels of humidity, easy to clean.
For the repair and leveling of the floor surface in the toilet, it will be advisable to use self-leveling floors. The mixture must be cement-based. For decoration, it is advisable to use porcelain stoneware tiles.
To level the walls of the toilet in a new building, you can use drywall, but only its moisture-resistant modification (the distinguishing feature is the green color of the sheets). For the frame, aluminum profiles are recommended, since the tree quickly rots from dampness and is affected by a fungus. You can glue tiles, paint or wallpaper on drywall.
When repairing a small toilet in an old building, this leveling method is inappropriate, since the already cramped space will decrease due to the crate. The walls can be plastered or using a glue method for installing gypsum board.
Important! Before applying the finish, a layer of plaster must be treated with deep penetration impregnation in order to protect it from the harmful effects of dampness.
The choice of finishing materials for walls is wide enough:
Tile. It is worth giving preference to the kaolion-based material (it is white on the back).
Porcelain stoneware.
Dye. The best choice is an easy-washable latex compound.
Washable wallpaper. They should be based on polyester or propylene, paper wallpapers in the toilet quickly deteriorate.
PVC panels. Suitable for "economy" type repairs.
The ceiling surface can be painted or a stretch ceiling made of PVC film can be installed, which will help prevent damage to the finish in the event of a leak from the neighbors on top.
The doors to the bathroom can be both standard and smaller, as in the houses of the 137 series. And this creates a lot of problems for the owners, since it can be problematic to find such a canvas. Only one recommendation can be given here - the door should be deaf.
When all questions on materials have been resolved and a design has been selected, you can begin the repair process. Where to start renovating a toilet? From dismantling old materials: removing the toilet, removing coverings, wallpaper, removing garbage, etc.
Repairing a toilet in a new building is easier: there is no need to change pipes, dismantle the old finish.
The next stage of the renovation is the installation of a new sewerage system. Now they use plastic. It is much lighter and cheaper, but not inferior in strength to traditional materials.When buying any plumbing kits, you need to check if all the rubber gaskets are in place. If they are not enough, there may be problems with the sealing of the joints.
Then they change pipes and wiring. Risers are now also made of polypropylene. They must be firmly attached to the wall, especially a hot water pipe, since they can deform under the influence of high temperatures. With the economy option, the pipes are not touched, since the cost of repairs from this increases significantly. If the toilet is suspended, the installation is installed at this stage of the repair.
When doing electrical wiring in the toilet in a new building, you need to remember that the wires must be hidden in a special corrugation, and the junction boxes and wire connections must be removed outside this room.
Another point is ventilation. Often it turns out to be clogged, so it is necessary to clean it and close it with a special grill.
For efficient ventilation, it is advisable to equip a forced draft.
The repair is being completed by installing a toilet bowl and assembling a plumbing cabinet.
Knowing how to make repairs in the toilet and what kind of work you have to do, you just have to decide whether you can do everything yourself or whether it is better to entrust part of the work to professional craftsmen.
The cost of redecorating a turnkey toilet in Moscow ranges from 14-25 thousand rubles, in St. Petersburg such repairs will cost 10-22 thousand rubles. The price for overhaul with replacement of pipes starts from 35 thousand rubles.
You can save money by doing some of the work yourself, for example, dismantle the old coating, make a screed, etc. If you have no experience in performing any operations, you can watch training videos, look through photos in search of inspiration.
The most important and difficult stage in the renovation of a bathroom is finishing the ceiling and walls. Usually toilets are covered with tiles or sheathed with plastic panels. Sometimes bathrooms can be decorated with decorative plaster or plasterboard mosaics.
In some cases, wood panels or lining are used for decoration. Of course, in order for all surfaces to be neat as a result, repairing the walls in the bathroom with your own hands should be done with strict adherence to certain technologies.
One of the most convenient ways to decorate a bathroom is modern wall panels. The room sheathed with them will look quite aesthetically pleasing and modern.
Among other things, PVC panels are hygienic, not afraid of moisture and have an affordable price. So, using them, you can make high-quality and budget repairs.
Not many people are satisfied with the Soviet standard options. What is the best way to make the walls of the bathroom, because there are a huge amount of materials on the market, and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Before starting the repair, you need to make an estimate with the calculation of all materials, which will allow you to find out about the upcoming expense.
Of course, when repairing a small toilet in a house or apartment with your own hands, it is not worth making a detailed list, it is enough just to calculate how much the purchase of basic materials will cost.
Before you start decorating the walls with PVC panels, you need to remove all household appliances and furniture from the bathroom. You can leave the plumbing for the duration of the repair, but it is still better to remove and dismantle it. Moreover, during the repair, it, as a rule, can be changed to a new one.
VIDEO You need to remove old wallpaper from the walls, clean and treat their surface with special anti-rotting compounds.
Repair of the combined bathroom should be carried out in compliance with the technology, since the air in this room has high humidity. In this case, the panels are installed only on the crate. In simple toilets, they can be glued directly onto the walls.
Installing the frame
Since the ceilings and walls in the bathrooms of the apartments are rarely perfectly flat, usually the plastic lining is mounted with the preliminary installation of the frame. The latter is much easier to make from wooden slats 40x25 mm. Usually the elements of the lathing are mounted horizontally. The frame is fixed directly to the wall using self-tapping screws with plastic dowels. In this case, it is important that the step between the slats is not more than 50 cm.
In order to level the frame in the places where the purlins are fastened, insert pieces of plywood or slats of the required thickness. Once the entire wall has been padded, proceed to install the corner pieces, bottom and top plastic rails. They are attached to the frame with brackets using a construction stapler.
Panel mounting process
When making repairs to the walls of the bathroom, you can choose PVC panels of any color. However, it is better to use light panels in a small room. In general, there are many options for decorating a toilet with plastic. To be convinced of this, it is enough to look at the catalog of any online store of building materials.
Stages of finishing a bathroom with PVC panels
First, the thorn must be cut off at the first lamella.
It is then inserted into the corner starter.
The first lamella on the reverse side must be fixed to each purlin with a bracket or cleat.
The spike of the second panel must fit into the groove of the first. To do this, the lower and upper guide will have to bend slightly. The second panel is attached to the crate in exactly the same way.
All other lamellas are installed in the same order.
The last panel is inserted into the corner profile without additional fixation to the battens.
The toilet ceiling is finished in the same way.
Nowadays, there is a PVC profile on sale for the installation of plastic panels. Fastening the lathing, as well as the lamellas themselves, in this case, takes place using the same technology.
Glue mounting
If the walls in the bathroom are even, and they are not combined with the bathroom, you can perform installation according to a simplified scheme. In this case, PVC lamellas are attached directly to the wall surface with liquid nails. The sequence of work in this case will be as follows:
repairs begin with cleaning the ceiling and walls from dirt. Then the surface should be primed;
drops of liquid nails are applied to each panel in a checkerboard pattern (pointwise) with a step of about 30 cm;
then the panel is firmly pressed against the wall surface and held for several seconds in this position;
other elements are attached in the same way;
of course, the starting and finishing corner profiles, as well as the lower and upper guides, are pre-glued to the wall.
Watch a video on how to repair a bathroom with your own hands:
VIDEO Using plastic panels, you can make an inexpensive and high-quality repair of the bathroom walls with your own hands, the photo and video of which you could see above.
Ceramic tiles: finishes, advantages and disadvantages.
Despite the high price, the toilets are finished with tiles much more often than with PVC panels. The bathroom, finished with modern tiles, looks presentable and stylish.
Plus, unlike plastic, it is much more difficult to damage tiles. The only drawback is the complexity of the installation. But be that as it may, having studied the technology in detail, you can save money by doing everything yourself. But when doing this work, you must carefully follow our recommendations.
Wall alignment
Repair of a separate toilet, as a rule, begins with leveling all surfaces. It is better not to glue tiles on curved walls. Otherwise, the room will look sloppy.
The wall alignment procedure includes the following steps:
old plaster is stripped from the ceiling and walls. The tiles that have served their time are removed from the floor;
continue the repair by gluing plaster guides (attached to a gypsum solution);
when the plaster has set, you can proceed to the new plaster. The solution is thrown in large pieces between the beacons, after which it is carefully leveled with a rule;
the alignment of the walls of the bathrooms in the "Khrushchev" is carried out using the same technology;
repair of a bathroom in a panel house can be carried out without leveling the surface, since the walls in such buildings, in comparison with brick and block buildings, are quite even.
VIDEO Installation of tiles
Tiles for a shared bathroom are only suitable for special ones, which are adapted by the manufacturer for use in high humidity conditions. It can be ordered at any hardware store. The installation process itself takes place in the following order:
at the first stage of the repair, the walls are thoroughly coated with a penetrating primer;
further, the surface is placed along the entire height of the tile;
the installation process always starts from the bottom;
glue is applied to the wall using a special float or a notched trowel;
it is better not to capture a large area;
the first tile is pressed as tightly as possible to the surface, aligned horizontally and vertically;
the assembly is set by two dividing crosses;
other tiles are mounted according to the same scheme (tiles can be installed not only in even rows, but also at a distance);
a day after installation, the beacons are removed, and the seams are rubbed with a composition of a suitable color.
Use of other materials: mosaic, plasterboard, wood panels.
Plastic panels and tiles are some of the most popular toilet finishes. But in some cases, repairing walls in bathrooms with your own hands can be done using other materials (see photo).
Mosaic decoration
When performing repairs, tiles can be replaced with mosaics. Interior wall decoration with such material will not be as difficult as you might think. Glass, ceramic and smalt mosaics are sold not in small pieces, but in whole panels, about 30x30 cm in size. During production, the elements are placed on the paper with the front side. As soon as the panel sticks to the wall, it is moistened with water and removed (after soaking).
Plasterboard finishing
Such material for finishing bathrooms, both separate and combined, is used quite often. Attention! For the decoration of rooms with high humidity, only moisture-resistant drywall, which has a green cardboard color, can be used.
Installation of drywall is carried out on a metal or wooden frame (the first is more reliable).
VIDEO On top, decorative plaster is most often used. The whole complex of finishing works with such material takes place in stages.
The plasterboard surface is pre-primed with a special compound.
When the primer dries, plaster is applied to the walls with a trowel with straight or circular movements by hand (in a rather thin layer).
After the first coat has dried, proceed with the second and then the third. For structural plaster, 1-2 coats are sufficient. Textured plaster is applied in 5-12 layers.
Wood paneling
Usually, wood panels in the bathroom are used only if it is not combined with the bathroom. Their installation is carried out using exactly the same technology as the installation of PVC panels.
This is one of the simplest options for finishing a bathroom. But to paint the surfaces of this room, you will have to use only water-dispersed compositions and paints made on a latex basis.
When waterproof wallpaper appeared on the market, many immediately began to use it as a wall covering for a bathroom.
Attention! Acrylic and vinyl wallpapers are easy to clean and do not absorb moisture, but they have one weak point - the joints.
Decorative plaster
Decorative plaster allows you to beautifully decorate the walls of the bathroom, creating a moisture-resistant and durable coating. It creates a reliable insulating layer and is distinguished by various decorative defects.
Attention! To extend the life of the decorative plaster, we recommend applying a protective wax to it.
As you can see, repairing the walls of the bathroom with your own hands is a troublesome task, but quite doable. We strongly recommend finishing this room carefully and slowly, as a result of which you will have a modern bathroom with perfectly flat walls. If the technology of finishing with tiles or panels seemed difficult to you, then you can always resort to the help of specialists. Today many companies produce bathroom fittings inexpensively and on a turnkey basis.
When you move into a new apartment, there is a very natural desire to make it the home of your dreams and change everything there. Actually, this was the case with me too - I moved to a one-room apartment, which probably saw the renovation in the Brezhnev era. So, at the entrance we have an apartment with a separate bathroom and toilet, but very small.
These are the tiny spaces that are called “not to unfold”. Therefore, we decided to combine a bath with a toilet. We have two advantages at once:
the bathroom becomes more spacious
instead of two doors in the corridor there will be one, which means additional space in the corridor, which is also small.
This is what we have in the bathroom: small tiles on the floor, tiles, metal-plastic pipes, a partition between the bathroom and the toilet - brickwork. We cleaned the walls as much as possible of tiles and a layer of paint. The sink was removed, it must be replaced, but the bath was left, it is cast iron and in good condition.
The ceilings in the apartment are multi-level, a niche is hidden under the plywood, although it was quite possible to make a cabinet. However, now this is irrelevant, we will change the location of the door.
Such a mosaic tile adorned the walls of the toilet, this one cannot be found now.
Branch of risers from the toilet to the bath. The pipes, as we can see, in this old house have been replaced with new ones.
The red brick partition is decorated with a decent layer of plaster - 3-4 cm, we knock down all this "wealth". We will dismantle the wall. This brick is still useful to us.
We diligently knock down this entire thick layer of plaster, remove the fiberboard panel with which the pipes in the toilet were sewn up. We closed the toilet itself so as not to clog it up. As you can see, there is enough dirt!
We work in the old fashioned way, with a wide chisel and a hammer. All this work could have been done with a puncher, but we did not have one. All materials are already old, so plaster and tiles are easily knocked off.
This wall was hidden behind a layer of plaster and tiles.
The most difficult thing was to remove all this "beauty", as we can see, the workers did not regret the mixture.
The walls are uneven - at the ceiling, the thickness of the plaster layer reached as much as 6 cm.
We shoot down everything, we remove the lamp.
This is how the wall opposite to the partition looks like, it is also brick. We knock out the ventilation grill, put a new one in its place.
Now, finally, the most interesting thing - we dismantle the partition between the bathroom and the toilet, the bricks, as I said, we keep, they are in good condition, so why spend money on extra materials. We store whole bricks in the bathroom.
This is what we get in the end, when all the garbage has been removed, the wall and the door frame of the toilet have been knocked out, there will be a wall here.
There will be minor difficulties with the new floor, because there is a decent difference between the bathroom floor and the toilet floor, see how the stool is crooked.
Now this difference must be leveled as much as possible, with a hammer and a chisel we knock down everything unnecessary, remove two layers of tiles in the toilet.
See how much space will be in the bathroom combined with the toilet, there will be space for both the sink and the washing machine.
There is a lot of work with the floor in the toilet: check out which layer you have to remove, almost ten centimeters, to the very foundation.
We are preparing a place for the future wall, there used to be a door here, but there will be a wall, in the toilet in this place it will be possible to place a cabinet or shelves for accessories. An excellent solution for such a small apartment.
We arm ourselves with a trowel and a cement-sand mixture and erect a new wall. Do not forget to use a level so that the wall is even.
View of the new wall from inside the toilet. Simultaneously with laying out the wall itself, we close up the cracks. An old bathroom door frame serves as a wall border. Subsequently, we will break the old box and put a new door.
This is how the work goes: broken bricks are also used, they can be inserted into large cracks, and then covered with a mixture.
Outside view: this is how much space to add in the corridor due to the fact that there will be no door. In a small area, every centimeter of roads.
The lamp was attached to the wall, but for now it just hangs from the ceiling. In the distance, you can see the niche between the slab and the ceiling. Of course, it would be possible to make a locker, but we abandoned this idea, it will be too high and very unlikely to be used often.
We close it up with a brick, cover up the cracks. The old brick was not enough, so I had to buy a new one.
now it's time to disassemble the shaft with the riser. Everything had to be done very carefully so as not to turn off the toilet and not disrupt communications. After all, it's not easy to live without a toilet.
They dismantled everything down to the pipes. There's a hole in the floor. To prevent the old cast-iron pipe from falling, we reinforce the floor with fittings, put boxes on the meters so that they do not suffer during repair work.
We close the hole at the site of the mine with a cement-sand mixture.
Level the floor between the bathroom and toilet.
We dismantle the toilet. We sew up a pipe riser. To do this, we needed metal profiles and the most common foam plates - it is cheap and absorbs excess water noise. We leave the revision window for access to the counters. We seal all the cracks with polyurethane foam. The pipes for the heated towel rail are immediately brought out.
We insert a new corrugation for the toilet. Before that, it was cast-iron, and now it is movable plastic, which means that there will be no problems with installing a new toilet.
We sew up the riser with plasterboard sheets. We make serifs on the walls so that the finishing materials hold better.
Here is such an ideal riser we end up with. It seems that the entire wall is sewn up, but this is not so - here you can see a hidden hatch so that we can have access to the plumbing system. For this we came in handy awnings for furniture and a push mechanism for the door.
Now you can go back to the floor, now it can be finally leveled to get rid of that unfortunate drop. Our helpers in this are a cement-sand mixture and a spatula. We leave to dry.
Because our walls are very uneven. They will have to be properly leveled and an impressive layer of plaster is indispensable. We install metal beacons for plastering, we will lose a couple of centimeters of space, but we have to sacrifice so that the walls are perfectly even.
We prime the surface, this is necessary in order to strengthen the wall itself (do not forget that the brick is very old) and this will improve the adhesion to the finishing material.
Plastering process. As we can observe, the layer is impressive, 3-4 centimeters.
Due to the fact that we have installed beacons, we can see which layer needs to be applied.
This is how it looks in the end. Let it dry.
We cover the entire surface of the walls with plaster, then we prime.
We pass to the floor. Our floor will be tiled with square tiles diagonally. This tiling method is not easy, but worth it. This arrangement visually increases the space, and because we have a small bathroom, we will try to add volume at least visually.
Before starting to lay the tiles, we prepared the surface - leveled it, repaired all the holes and potholes on the walls and floor, primed it. The primer improves the adhesion of the tiles to the floor. After applying the primer, let it dry.
Here is such a handsome floor we got in the end. Light-colored tiles again add space, and thanks to the pattern, dirt and drops are not visible on it.
It's time to remove the old door frame and install a new door. We dismantle the thresholds.
We collect a new door frame and install it in the opening. To prevent the door beams from bending, we put wooden wedges between the wall and the box.
The bases of the box themselves were fixed with metal corners. The outside wall of the bathroom is also plastered.
The door is the simplest, made of chipboard. Firstly, such a door is inexpensive and is quite suitable for our interior. We hang it on the hinges. Then we carefully foame all the seams and cracks between the box and the wall.
New toilet - new toilet. Installed in place of the old one. Now we move on to preparing the walls for laying out the tiles. Our tools are a spray gun, which is very convenient for priming walls, simple and comb spatulas, crosses. I fixed the level on the wall, it will serve us as a starting profile.
We knead the tile glue. He will check whether he is ready very easily - we take a trowel or a spatula and scoop it up: if it does not drain immediately and does not fall off in a piece. So the consistency is ideal, if it's too liquid, add the glue mixture, if it's thick - water.
On the wall, we have already pre-made notches for better adhesion of the walls and tiles and covered with concrete contact, for the same purpose. We draw marks for the tiles, we check everything with a level.
We begin to lay out the support row, do not forget to use the suture crosses, they guarantee that there will be no distortions.
We do the same manipulations with the other wall - we check whether the walls are vertical with a plumb line, fix the starting level.
This wall is the most difficult - here we have communications. Here you have to break your head how best to arrange the tiles, which did not have to cut a lot. We lay out a decorative border, we have it as a guide - where there is no profile (above the taps), a board was attached under the tiles so that the tiles would not slide off.
With a diamond drill we drill a hole for the wiring, bring out the wires - here we will have a lamp.
Another difficult area is the space above the door, there is no support row here, so in order for the tile not to move, we will use good old scotch tape.
As you can see, we do not lay out the tiles up to the ceiling itself, there will then be a suspended ceiling, so we leave 5 cm.
We rub the tile joints.
Our tiles are in two shades of beige. Lighter tiles on the top and darker ones on the bottom help to visually increase the space.
It's time to install a new heated towel rail. Mark the holes for the fasteners and drill them.
Installing a heated towel rail is not an easy task; to mount it, you have to install a hook in the ceiling and hang it.
The holes on the wall are made, we report the tiles and in the same places we make holes already in the tiles itself.
Now it remains to lay out non-whole tiles in the corner.
We complete the styling process. In order not to confuse the cut tiles, we number them, which greatly facilitates the work.
Another way to save space in a tiny bathroom is to flush the pipes into the wall. First, cuts were made with a grinder, and then with a chisel, a chisel and a hammer, the grooves were hollowed out, where the pipes were placed. A new mixer was installed.
Now you need to make holes in the tile itself. To do this, we will use a special crown for drilling round holes. We install it on a drill and at low speeds in a couple of minutes we get a neat hole.
We glue the tiles, rub. No more pipes will disfigure our bathroom.
This is how our bath looks at this stage. We install the ventilation grill.
Alas, the pictures end there, but the renovation does not. It remains for us to arrange the ceiling. This will be an aluminum slat suspended ceiling. As we already said, our main task is to expand the space as much as possible, so we chose a glossy rail.
Spot lighting helped us make the bathroom very light and therefore spacious.Then we hung up a new sink, the space under the bathtub was covered with a special color-matched plastic screen.
Video (click to play).
As a result, we made a great transformation of the bathroom and got additional space, both in the bathroom itself and in the hallway. In the vacant space, you can put a washing machine and hang shelves. The renovation turned out to be budgetary, we used to the maximum what was still quite suitable (brick, bath) and chose the most inexpensive materials.
