In detail: do-it-yourself deck chair repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
How to replace the fabric of a sun lounger?
To do this, it is enough to choose a durable fabric. Remove the old seat and measure its dimensions. According to these dimensions, cut out a new one and, having processed the edges, attach it to a deck chair.
The seat of the deck chair can be replaced with a more durable one, make a durable and beautiful seat for this, with your own hands. The strongest seat can be made from corsage, which is used when sewing skirts and trousers to strengthen the belt.
To create a new seat for a deck chair, you need to measure its dimensions with mounting allowances. Then cut the corsage tape into segments of the required length along the width and length of the deck chair. Then fold the long strips side by side close to each other and interlace them with short strips of corsage ribbon. Move the interlaced strips tightly to each other and fasten with pins at the plexus points around the perimeter of the seat. Then stitch each outer strip to the edge.
The seat is ready, but now it is necessary to cut out another exactly the same size from strong calico with seam allowances around the perimeter of 2-3cm. Wrap the free ends of the corsage ribbon on the wrong side and secure with pins.
After that, fold the wicker part of the seat and the calico lining inside out to the wrong side and sew the longitudinal sides. Then fasten the seat to the deck chair with a stapler with large staples.

The first thing that does not stand the test of time is the fabric bed. It is torn from old age or under the considerable weight of a vacationer. This also happens, and fixing it is easy. For a while, a torn fabric can be sewn up, and for a major repair, buy new material and replace it by removing the old one. Such repairs take a little time, and now you are lying in an updated deck chair, dreaming of a trip to the south and wondering what the cost of apartments in Yalta in this season.
If the folding mechanism of the sun lounger “sticks”, it may simply be rusted. Try to lubricate it with technical oil without disassembling it. In many cases this helps. It happens that screws and screws work out from time to time. In such cases, the chair must be unscrewed, and the old fasteners replaced with new ones.
Plastic lounge chairs are quite durable, but they can also crack. You can glue them, but it's not easy. If this place is under constant load, sooner or later the bond will crack anyway. You can try to buy special adhesives for polystyrene, construction adhesive for plastic panels, fill the crack and let the glue dry according to the instructions. They also use glue "Poksipol", "Supermoment" - you just need to degrease the cracked place.
This way is more reliable. Heat up the “sore” place with a thermal gun or hair dryer, put a thin reinforcing strip on it (if you can buy it) or pieces of the same plastic, finely chopped. Heat until the plastic melts into a single mass.Instead of a reinforcing strip, you can use metal wire or staples from a furniture stapler that are always available in the country house. The operation can also be performed using an electric soldering iron. This method is used by scooter owners to repair plastic bumpers.
After cooling, the appearance of the repaired place will not be very attractive: the scar cannot be made invisible. You can paint it over or stick a nice sticker on it. If there is a crack in the seat, put a decorative pillow or cape. Such a deck chair can serve for a long time in the country if the gluing and soldering is done carefully.
To prevent cracks, it is necessary to remove garden furniture into the house for the winter. It is designed for summer temperatures and does not withstand frost.
To increase the service life of garden furniture, which is most of the time outdoors, it needs careful care, protection from atmospheric precipitation and timely repair of garden furniture. These conditions apply to garden furniture made of any material, be it wood, metal or plastic. Usually the materials themselves from which the furniture is made are relatively durable, but the transformation mechanisms (folding, sliding) and soft materials (backs, seats, etc.) wear out, break and tear most often. Such structural elements are most in need of careful treatment and repair. If we carry out systematic care for wooden furniture, which consists in storing furniture in the winter in a dry and frost-protected room, and at the beginning of the season in cleaning, restoring and updating the paintwork, then our favorite furniture can serve us “faithfully” for ten years and more.Wooden garden furniture repair Wooden furniture parts are best painted with durable and environmentally friendly harmless materials, which include acrylic lacquer, natural-based oil lacquer, water-based coatings. In the form of additional wood protection, it is recommended to use impregnations with a biologically active substance that will protect the product from mold and rot. All these coatings must be applied only to dry and clean wood.
As a preventive measure, wooden parts can be periodically rubbed with wax, which creates a protective water-repellent film on the surface. Materials made of matter (chaise lounges and similar furniture) are always exposed to the greatest mechanical wear. After conducting an audit and determining that worn-out fabric parts cannot be repaired due to many gusts, it is better to replace them with new ones by cutting out and sewing them from teak or dense twill. It is necessary to choose a fabric of the correct width and it should be slightly - slightly less than the distance between the side rails.
Before installing a new cover, it is necessary to analyze the condition of the wooden structure and the existing fittings. Re-tighten the screws and rivets, and only then carefully remove the old canvas, which will have to be used in the form of a pattern.
I draw your attention to the fact that in this article we are talking about the repair of a deck chair and folding furniture, as the most common garden furniture. So. Before installing a new cover, for convenient work, it is necessary to turn the deck chair over. Furniture nails for attaching fabric or staples (installed with a stapler) are hammered from below on the transverse parts. The fixation of the fabric must begin from the middle of the transverse bar, then the outer ends of the fabric are attached at the ends of the bar, and the rest are attached from the middle to the edges after 6-8 cm.
More information on furniture repair can be viewed on this blog page.
To repair the seat and backs of folding chairs, it is better to use a more durable fabric - canvas. When cutting the fabric, do not forget to take into account such a detail as the hem and stitching of the fabric from all sides.The new tight-fitting is attached to the seat bars along the outer edges, but on the back, the tight-fitting is put on vertical bars and only then fastened with nails or staples using a stapler
The new cover is attached to the transverse bars of the structure with nails or staples using a stapler with an interval of 6 - 8 cm.
The worn canvas seat is removed with a knife by cutting it off at the very side rails. The new back cover is put on the vertical bars and attached to them. Shown here is a tensioner made from a rubber band and two earrings. This makes it easier to lace up the tight.Repair of folding metal furniture Metal folding furniture is usually made from tubes and does not require special care. It tolerates the effects of precipitation and frost. Often there is metal furniture whose tubes have a plastic coating. Caring for this furniture is generally very simple and consists only of wiping with a damp cloth. True, this furniture also has vulnerabilities - these are folding and unfolding mechanisms. Furniture structures that do not have protection on metal tubes after a while may be prone to rust, and in order to avoid this, it is better to periodically treat them with a protective wax composition that is used for car cosmetics. The appeared rust must be removed with sandpaper, and these places should be primed and painted over with car enamel of a suitable color.
Most metal garden furniture is made from aluminum tubes. Structures made of this material have much fewer problems and the focus should be on only swivel joints, hinges and retainers, which are periodically lubricated with grease.
The canvas covering of metal furniture is sometimes fastened with cords from the underside, which perform the function of fastening and distributing the load. They are the most subject to wear and tear and need to be replaced more often than the canvas cover itself. The cord is replaced by threading it through the rings, which are called eyelets. The cord is stretched, and its ends are fixed. It is not recommended to tie knots at the ends of the cord. You just need to fold them in half and sew with ordinary threads. To make this job easy enough, you need to use a simple rubber band device with hooks that can fix the canvas in position. With this action, we will free our hands for comfortable work.
Replacing worn-out fabric elements is done in the same way as for wooden furniture. Fabric details are cut out and the edges are tucked. Then the fabric is laid on a metal structure in the right place, the tubes are bent around and the fabric is temporarily fixed with pins. Using crayon, it is necessary to mark the seam line along which to sew the fabric with harsh threads. For reliability, you can put a double seam.
A thin layer of wax from car cosmetics reliably protects the surface of metal tubes from rust.
The appeared rust is carefully removed with sandpaper, and the stripping points are treated with a primer.
The cord is replaced by tightening it through the eyelets, followed by stretching.
The end of the cord is recommended to be sewn on and not tied in a knot.
The tucked fabric is first fixed with pins or basted, and then stitched with harsh threads of the appropriate color.Minor repairs Sometimes it is necessary to carry out minor repairs even on new furniture in case of fabric rupture. Do not despair, as such gaps can be repaired, but this must be done immediately to avoid an increase in the gap, which can lead to serious repairs. Repairs can be made without removing the covers. You just need to fold the furniture to loosen the tension of the fabric and make it comfortable to work with. In this way, it is possible to repair the fabric in places where the fabric does not bear heavy loads.In all other cases, the upholstery must be removed for a quality repair, which will have to be done with harsh threads using a needle with a large eye. The fabric will have to be sewn with overcast stitches, having previously folded the edges of the gap with each other. The first stitches must be completed before the start of the gap for 10 - 12 mm and finish the seam by extending it after the gap and tying the thread in a knot. here you need to repair such “chips” on both sides
Andrei, it's not about this plastic. I have the same chair a week ago. I will repair myself. Plasmaska there to the ass, there is a bent metal tube that rests just against this tube that is screwed to the plasma. That tube should be straight. I'm thinking of fixing this over the weekend.

You can see the pipe in the 2nd photo. It is not screwed to the pipe on which there is a plastic bracket and should be flat.
The chaise longue was invented in France in the 20s of the last century and means "long chair" in translation. Over the past time, sun loungers have come a long way in development. Until now, no type of garden furniture can compare with them in terms of style, mobility and ease of installation. Let us consider in more detail the varieties of designs of garden loungers and the technology of their manufacture.
The chaise lounge is simple, functional, mobile and irreplaceable attribute for country rest. It is convenient to relax in it in the shade of garden trees near an artificial reservoir or accommodate unexpected guests. Their design allows, if necessary, to quickly assemble them, while they take up little space. In addition, the right sun lounger allows you to emphasize style garden plot, it harmoniously fits into the backyard interior. For example, wooden deck chairs are in harmony with the natural environment and serve as a wonderful addition to the landscape of the garden plot.
For the manufacture of garden chairs natural wood, plastic and aluminum are used. Each of these types of sun loungers has its own benefits.
Due to their distinctive characteristics and design, garden sun loungers made of different materials have a number of undeniable advantages:
- the possibility of being in a semi-sitting or semi-lying position, which provides maximum relaxation;
- due to the lightness of the deck chair material (aluminum, plastic, wood) and the simplicity of the design, they are quite mobile and allow you to easily move them from place to place;
- when folded, they have small dimensions, which greatly facilitates their storage;
- folding sun loungers can be used as benches for rest;
- provide the possibility of sunbathing;
- modern garden loungers have durability and a long period of operation;
- are high aesthetic characteristics;
- not afraid of moisture and temperature changes;
- not affected microorganisms;
- may have a different shape and include armrests, footrests and water;
- high strength (easily support a person weighing more than 100 kg).
Depending on the design, there are several types of garden sun loungers:
monolithic. This is a design where all elements are rigidly connected to each other. Such chairs are characterized by high strength and the ability to withstand heavy loads. However, they also have significant drawbacks: the impossibility of changing the angle of the backrest, it does not fold and moves heavily from place to place;
The most common material for self-made sun loungers is natural wood. For its manufacture, the following tools and materials are required:
- electric drill and a set of drills for wood;
- circular electric saw;
- roulette;
- marker;
- square;
- screwdriver;
- rasp;
- sandpaper;
- wood putty;
- planed boards;
- wooden bars;
- screws or self-tapping screws made of brass;
- bolts, washers and nuts for fastening.
Any person who has certain skills in handling carpentry tools is capable of building a deck chair, since its design is not much different from a garden bench. Most often, a deck chair is made from natural wood.
Work starts with building strong frame, which will require two longitudinal boards 190 -220 cm long and two transverse boards 50 - 70 cm wide. The boards are carefully sanded and covered with a protective layer (varnish or stain), which will further protect it from external conditions.
To give the structure the necessary rigidity, the longitudinal and transverse boards are rigidly interconnected. The so-called deck chair frame is formed.
For the manufacture of seats the board is cut into uniform bars 50 - 70 cm long (10 - 14 pieces) and, using self-tapping screws, is attached to the deck chair frame in 1 cm increments.
Chaise lounge back it is made so that it can enter the inside of the deck chair frame and at the same time there should still be small gaps between the frame and the back. The planks on the back frame are fixed with self-tapping screws along its entire length. To give aesthetics to the back, it is desirable to round the upper edge of the planks.
To fix the back of the deck chair to its frame, holes are used, located at a distance of 8-10 cm from the edge of the seat. The backrest is fixed with pins to the two sides of the frame, and the level of its inclination is adjusted using special support bar. This beam rests at one end against the head of the backrest, and at the other end is inserted into the grooves of a special rail attached to the frame of the deck chair. There should be about four such grooves (they determine a different angle of inclination of the back).
At the end, the entire structure is sanded sandpaper and covered with the appropriate paint.
The second method of making a deck chair is based on the use aluminum frame and strong fabric (tarpaulin). To do this, two trapeziums are connected using crossbars 60 cm long. One of them connects the two upper corners of the trapezium (the top of the seat fabric is attached there), the other - the two lower corners (the back of the deck chair). The third crossbar connects the uppermost corners of the small part of the trapezoid and the bottom of the seat is attached to it. The seat is usually a piece of strong fabric 150 cm long and 60 cm wide. metal corners or spikes.
If desired, you can build an awning canopy over the head of a sitting person, which is attached to the back of a deck chair. The geometry of the canopy can have a variety of sizes, depending on the desire.
Do-it-yourself deck chair - country and beach options. Ideas for the implementation of simple and stylish designs (110 photos)
A chaise lounge is a comfortable and lightweight chair design that is used in places of recreation: on the beaches, by the pools, an integral part of the decoration of the dacha. It can be used to relax after a hard weekday at work, caress yourself with the sun's rays or take a nap under the shade of the local trees, away from the curious eyes of the townsfolk.
In this article, we will talk with you about how you can make a regular wooden deck chair, give examples of photos, videos and instructions.
Brief content of the article:
First, choose the appropriate type and modification of the deck chair. Plastic, wood, synthetic fabric and aluminum can be used as the base material. We have chosen the most affordable version of a deck chair made of wood.
Tree selection is based on the following principles:
- material possibilities;
- future owner's preferences:
- garden style;
- available handy materials.
When choosing the future wood for your lounge chair, you pay attention to the mechanical properties of a particular type of wood. For example, the most durable types of wood are: ash, oak, larch and beech. With them, the design will delight you for many years. Wood is distinguished not only by the durability of its service, but also by its aesthetic component.
In turn, finished products made of noble wood species are not the cheapest pleasure for the buyer. Such a thing is not always available to an ordinary consumer who is trying to save any extra penny, because money is not superfluous. Before assembling a deck chair with your own hands, look at the drawings of the deck chair.
A self-made chaise longue will not only be an example of prudent spending of the family budget, but will also add zest to the appearance of your fabulous country garden.
In magazines and newspapers, countless drawings, projects and ready-made solutions for wooden deck chairs have accumulated. The dimensions of homemade sun loungers are identical to industrial models.
A folding deck chair is much more comfortable than a regular one. It is easy to move around the territory, and in winter it can be folded and removed, even cloudy weather will not create any interference.
Pre-purchased parts for the structures of the future deck chair must be processed, we impregnate the wood with an antiseptic and an anti-corrosion compound. We grind the surface to a perfectly smooth state. The resulting details are put aside and proceed to the study of the drawing.
If we turn to the latter, we can see that the crossbars are fixed to the lower part of the legs. They allow you to fix the back in the desired position. When installing only one plank, it is first necessary to make cuts in the places where the planks are installed in increments of 5 cm, starting from 20 centimeters.
The back frame should have bolt attachment points, we retreat from the edge on each side by 41 centimeters, and on the very base of the seat - 43 centimeters indent from above.
First you need to assemble the frame for the back. The main load will be transferred to the bar 20 x 60 x 610 mm, so pay special attention to fixing it. It should be of the highest quality. It is customary to leave a distance of 1 centimeter between the planks. It will be needed to secure the fabric in the future.
Using the above instructions, we assemble the main frame. Then, we connect 2 frames together - the back and the seat. Pay attention to the back frame, it is necessary to drill a hole on it from 2 sides, the distance is 41 centimeters for the back and 43 centimeters for the seat. Screw the two parts together with nuts and bolts.
Attention! During regular use of the chair, the nuts may gradually loosen and unscrew. To avoid this trouble completely, fasten the locknuts. For better fixation of nuts, "Moment" or ordinary paint can be used.
To determine the degree of free play, first tighten the nut firmly, and then gradually weaken. Let the paint and glue finally set.
The next step is to mount the support for the back. Planks are fastened with bolts and washers. Choose only thick fabric for the seats, tarpaulin, canvas and jeans are the best choice.
The material blank is folded 2 times and stitched with an indent of 1.5 centimeters. After that, it must be turned out.We bend a piece of fabric on one side so that the rod can be inserted and stitched. We do the same on the other side.
We push each of the ends of the folded fabric between the slats and insert a rod into it. We will get a tightly fixed seat, and at the same time dismantling it to wash it will not cause any problems.

Deckchair (in English - “long armchair”) is often what is associated with the southern sea and also with palm trees, nevertheless, even in Russian conditions it is pleasant to sit in a summer cottage in the sun in an easy chair. Yes, it is difficult to buy a comfortable, portable, strong and light deck chair in the salons. At the same time, it is quite easy to develop a simple chair that also owns all the advantages listed above.
To make such a deck chair you will need:
* bar 35x35 mm (larch or birch) - approximately 6 running meters;
* bar 35x18 mm - 0.75 m;
* bar 12x12 mm - 2.2 m;
* "cheerful" linen fabric 500 x 1250 mm;
* "furniture" bolts with a semicircular head M12 85 mm long, washers and nuts to them.
We round the ties (pos. 2), as shown in the drawing, and cut them into the sidewalls on hidden spikes. When assembling the frame, we glue all the joints and additionally fasten them with wooden dowels (the inner frame and the footboard are assembled in the same way).
Rice. 1. Chaise longue assembly (seat canvas not shown conventionally).
1 - outer frame; 2 - internal frame; 3 - footboard; 4 - bolt M12 x 85 mm;
5 - washer; 6 - nut M12.
Rice. 2. The frame is external.
1 - sidewall, bar 35 x 35 mm (2 pcs.); 2 - screed, bar 35 x 35 mm (3 pcs.).
Rice. 3. The frame is internal.
1 - sidewall, bar 35 x 35 mm (2 pcs.); 2 - screed, bar 35 x 35 mm (3 pcs.).
Before assembly, all elements of the deck chair must be sanded well (this is best done using an angle grinder (“grinder”) with a multi-petal nozzle, primed and painted with bright nitro enamel.
Rice. 4. Footboard.
1 - sidewall, bar 35 x 35 mm (2 pcs.); 2 - screed, bar 35 x 35 mm (1 pc.).
Now let's start cutting and sewing the seat fabric. On the short sides of a piece of fabric on both sides, we make folds of 50 mm and sew them on a sewing machine. We insert one end of the canvas into the upper 8 mm slot of the outer frame and insert a piece of timber 12 x 12 mm from the reverse side into the loop formed by the bend. We fix the second end in the same way in the slot of the inner frame.
The sun lounger is ready.Have a nice holiday!
A popular and uncomplicated way to make a deck chair for a summer cottage with your own hands is a deck chair made of material on a frame. This is a light and comfortable country option, which can be turned from a sunbed into a chair and back with one movement of the hand.
You will need the following materials and tools:
- two slats of wood 0.25 × 0.6 cm of different lengths (120 cm, 110 cm, 620 cm);
- wooden slats 2 × 2 cm (65 cm - 1 pc., 2 pcs. 60 cm and 50 cm each);
- high-quality dense material 2 × 0.5 m;
- drill;
- bolts and nuts of suitable diameter;
- PVA glue;
- sandpaper "zero";
- round file.
Choose a durable fabric that is not afraid of exposure to sunlight and moisture. The ideal option would be jeans, canvas or canvas. Reiki is better to choose from oak, birch or beech (they have increased hardness and strength).
To make light sun loungers for giving with your own hands, you need to prepare the slats of the desired length and sand them.
Next, you need to assemble the parts according to the diagram below. Please note that the marks "A" and "B" represent the main frame, and "C" is the stop.
- you need to drill holes suitable for the selected bolts on each long rail, always retreating 7-10 cm from their edges; all irregularities should be immediately sanded with a needle file until smooth surfaces are formed;
- at the head of the frame (indicated in Figure "B"), several holes should be drilled at once for subsequent adjustment of the inclination of the seatback;
- to create a seat, you need to make two more holes at the ends of long rails; their diameter must match the diameter of the prepared round rails (in this case, 2 cm); to keep the slats stronger, grease their ends with PVA glue;
- combine the structure "A" and "C" with the screws passing through the upper holes, then in the same way combine the resulting module with the element "B";
- stretch the fabric by wrapping the edges on the crossbars and making several seams with strong threads (this procedure can be done even before the final assembly of the product, then you can sew the material using a conventional sewing machine).
