Hello everyone. Here is another update of my section "Crazy Hands". And as usual, we will do everything with our own hands and in the field.

I am sure that many motorists have an idea of what wiper blades are (among the common people - wipers), and the fact that they have plastic plugs on their sides that fix an elastic band that cleans the windshield from water, snow and dirt. It is this plug that we will repair today, or rather fix the rubber band, because the plug was lost somewhere along the way.

Immediately I apologize for the quality, I had to take pictures with a tablet with a lousy camera.

It was like this, we drove out of town, lost a plug on the way, there was not a single auto store in the neighborhood. There was nothing to be done, I had to repair it from available tools so that the windshield would not be scratched in the rain.

As you can see from the photo, there is no plug at the end of the wiper blade (wiper), because of which the rubber band constantly runs away, and the "ribs" that should hold it - part and scratch the windshield, which can lead to unpleasant scratches.

The structure of the frameless wiper blade is extremely simple, and therefore it does not take much time to repair it. For repairs we need:
1. Stationery or construction knife;
2. Plastic tie-clamp (Zipties);
3. Self-confidence.

To begin with, I determined the place where the clamp will go in order to fix the elastic band tightly with it. If you look closely at the photo, you can see that the “ribs” have symmetrical indentations. It is precisely at their level that we will make a through hole in the wiper's elastic band for tight fixation of the clamp.

It is extremely inconvenient to make a hole, because the elastic is tight. Therefore, we do everything very carefully, and it is desirable that the hole is not very wide. The wider it is, the easier it is to tear the elastic by passing the tie through it.

Then, you need to thread the tie through the hole. Pay attention that the screed lock on the installed wiper is closer to the hood than to the glass. Otherwise, it can interfere with the snug fit of the wiper to the windshield and scratch it.

Pay close attention to how the screed runs. The rubber band of the wiper blade has, as it were, "gills". It was between them that I made a hole in order to preserve the cleaning properties of the wiper. Otherwise, the rubber-to-glass contact would not be tight, and the repair of the wiper blade would only give a visual effect.

Have you done it? Wonderful. Now we carefully start tightening, not forgetting to tweak the screed lock. It must be tweaked very delicately, so as not to shatter the hole in the gum.

After tightening, we saw off the dangling end with the same clerical knife.

Well, actually, that's how I ended up doing it. In my opinion, it turned out not bad. Yes, and on a car, after installation, it is not noticeable, unless of course you know and do not look closely.

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of what the repaired wiper blade looks like on the car. But I will say one thing, that we got back in the rain normally. The brush retained its original function and did not scratch the glass.

I will not say that the repair of the wiper blade, which I described in this post, is ideal, but, as I wrote above, the repair was carried out in the field from improvised means. What I found, I screwed it up)))

Time spent at most 10 minutes.I strongly recommend that you use this method only in emergency situations and replace the wiper blade as soon as possible. Fortunately, the prices for them are not very high, and you can only spend money on one, and not on a set. Don't save money on your own safety.

Operating the car in poor visibility conditions is something that vehicle drivers are constantly faced with. Depending on the weather conditions (snow, rain, etc.), the view of the space in front of the car's windshield can be significantly impaired, which contributes to the creation of an emergency on the road. At the same time, the cleanliness of the windshield, which is provided by car wipers, wipers in everyday life, is of no small importance and largely depends on the state of the latter.

Having found that when the wipers are working, there are stains on the windshield of the car, it is necessary to check their condition and determine the reasons for poor-quality glass cleaning.

Quite often, the reason for the appearance of streaks on the windshield of a car are:

oily windshield that even the best windshield wipers can't clean;
loose fit of elastic brushes to the windshield;
malfunctions of metal parts of the wiper drive;
wear of the cleaning edge of the elastic element of the brushes.

The reasons that caused the poor-quality work of the wipers may be due to:

prolonged contact of stationary brushes with the windshield of the machine (deformation of elastic parts) under the influence of direct sunlight or in severe frost;
ingress of dirt into the grooves of the elastic band of the wiper;
water getting into the grooves of the brush with its subsequent freezing;
changes in the chemical structure of elastic parts under the influence of ultraviolet radiation (direct sunlight);
wear of the working edge of the elastic band;
the appearance of traces of corrosion on the blades of the tape.

Noticing that the brushes began to clean the windshield of the car poorly, motorists, as a rule, try to replace them with new ones. However, this is not always justified, since in some cases it is not difficult to restore the performance of the wipers on the car. For example, if during the operation of the machine it was found that the working edge of the brushes is badly worn out, then you can restore its shape using sandpaper.

Take a sheet of non-bending material (multilayer plywood, a fairly thick sheet of metal, etc.).
Glue a strip of fine-grained sandpaper on it.
Carrying out the cleaning blade of the wiper over the sandpaper, they restore the shape of the tape, giving the working edge a rectangular shape.

If the elastic band of the wiper has hardened, gasoline can be used to restore it. Having dipped the tape in gasoline, it is then washed in warm water and a thin layer of silicone grease is applied to the working surface. These procedures will restore elasticity to the tape and make it softer.

The working surface of the janitor is covered with an oily film, then you can restore its properties (degrease), for example, using white spirit. White spirit will easily remove grease and other dirt from the brush surface. After this procedure, it is advisable to apply a thin layer of silicone grease to the working surface of the wiper belt. Car wipers, like other parts of your car, require regular maintenance. In order to extend the "life" of wipers on cars, experts recommend:

regularly clean the windshield of the car and the working surfaces of the wipers from dust, dirt and fat deposits, and in the winter season from snow and ice;
remove the wipers if the car is left outside for a long time;
leaving the car in the garage, raise the wipers in such a way as to exclude contact of elastic surfaces with the windshield (the distance to the windshield must be at least 5 mm);

It is extremely important in the winter season to turn on the wiper only after the ice on the windshield of the car has melted.

A windshield wiper or wipers have an important function on a vehicle. When they fail, any driver begins to feel uncomfortable, especially if he is on the road.

All the work must be done in order and at the same time not missing anything:

remove the wiper (on the vaz 2110 it can be completely removed);
unscrew the nut securing the leash;
remove the leash itself.

Go ahead and continue to repair the wipers of the VAZ 2110:

the turn of the gear motor has come (it can be wrapped in a thin leather film, which must be removed);
unscrew the three bolts of the gear motor, marked with arrows in the upper photo;
remove the black plastic cover by unscrewing two screws for this;
after removing the cover, unscrew the following screws.

We continue and by the way, you can also repair the wipers on the VAZ 2107:

take out the plate with 3 contacts located on it;
after which we remove the brown gasket;
we see the design of gears and rollers;
remove the largest gear along with the roller, revealing a plastic washer under it;
we extract two small gears, which must be noted before removal (this is done in order not to confuse their original location, because they do not have the same inclination of the teeth).

we disconnect the gearbox from the electric motor by unscrewing for this two screws located opposite;
we remove the anchor from the metal case of the electric motor;
at this stage, you should thoroughly clean all parts from dirt and old grease (we use a rag soaked in acetone).

Cleaning the wipers of the VAZ 2107, the repair of which can also be carried out according to this scheme, implies care and a detailed inspection:

we press with our fingers on three brushes in special holders (they must move freely, and if they go down tightly, then there are defects or cracks, and they must be replaced completely);
we check three springs, which should be even, without stretching and breakage.

We continue to repair the wipers of the VAZ 2107 or 2110 by inspecting the collector.
For this:

we inspect it for damage, scratches or dirt;
if it is heavily soiled, it is recommended to use a fine sandpaper (if this does not give any results or it will already be seen that the collector is badly worn out, it will be necessary to replace the whole armature or the entire gearmotor as a whole);
we inspect the teeth of the gears of the gearbox and replace them if gross scratches or other defects are found;
if defects are found on the thread of the rollers of the levers or brushes, then the rods must be replaced in a complete set;
we inspect the limit switch plate and, if necessary, run it with a sandpaper and over it;
we inspect the leash mount, or rather its black rubberized cushions (if they have lost their elasticity or burst, you need to replace them with new ones - replacement is carried out by removing the inner spacer steel sleeve);

On the VAZ 2109, the repair of the wipers also takes place, that is, they start with the gear motor.
So, let's continue:

we assemble the wiper, having previously well lubricated all the parts (especially you should pay attention to the gross worm of the armature and gears - use Litol-24 grease, and the marked gears should be put in place exactly);
set the anchor by tying the brushes with wire to the contacts (this stage of work is carried out in order not to curl the brushes and therefore they must be folded);
we mount the anchor in the gearbox housing very carefully;
we install the electric motor housing on the gearbox, holding the armature shaft;
we untie or bite off the wire holding the brushes and knock on the gearmotor with a wooden hammer in order to center the bearings;
we install the leash back on the axle, which must necessarily stand in a horizontal position and in proportion to the central thrust.

Attention: Before proceeding with the repair of the gearmotor, read the technical characteristics of the normal operation of this part.

the rotation speed of the shaft of a larger value - seventy;
current consumption at first speed - 3.5 A;
at second speed - 5 A.

On the VAZ 2106, the repair of wipers is carried out a little differently. Although the whole process is similar to the above instructions, there is still a difference. But consider a way to change the old wiper blade to a new one.

First, we arm ourselves with a screwdriver and start the process:

for VAZ 2106, the wiper drive rods are connected not only to each other, but also to the cranks with hinges;
remove the wiper and motor reducer;
remove the thrust hinge stopper from the groove of the crank axis;
remove it from the axis.

disassemble the wiper rods;
we assemble a new thrust in the reverse order with the same drive;
install the gearmotor on the bracket carefully, paying attention to the condition of the rubber bushings.

Attention: When working, you need to use a wide-blade screwdriver. It will be more convenient for her to remove and install the bushings.

The repair of the VAZ 2106 wipers continues. Now let's look at how to clean the manifold and change the gears.
We carry out the following operations:

we remove the wipers, as indicated above;
we turn off the fasteners for fixing the leash;
remove it from the gear motor roller.

we unscrew the gearbox mounting bolts (there should be three of them);
remove the gear motor;
we see a protective film on it, which should be removed;
remove the plastic cover by unscrewing the two fastening screws;

we remove the gasket with our own hands;
we see gears;
remove the largest of them together with a roller and a plastic washer;
after that, we remove the other gears (as mentioned above, they will need to be marked so that they do not mix up during assembly);
remove the gearbox from the electric motor by unscrewing the two fixing screws;
we begin a thorough inspection and clean all the parts from dirt and old grease;
the brushes in the brush holder must move freely up and down (pay close attention to this, they should not jam / if we find such a problem,then we change the gear motor assembly or brushes and do not forget to solder them to the brush holder when replacing them);
according to the instructions, the springs should also be inspected without fail (their elasticity should be checked and if we notice increased extensibility or another defect, we replace them with new ones);
we clean the collector with sandpaper, if scratches or traces of dirt are visible on it (if it is too worn out, then we replace the anchor or the gearmotor as a whole);
we also change gears if we notice worn teeth on them;
collect everything in reverse order.

If the wiper does not clean the glass of the car due to wear on the working surface of the brush, fix it with a plate of stiff material and sandpaper. Fine-grit sandpaper and plywood are ideal for this job. Note that the longer the plate is, the better the edge will be. Glue sandpaper to the plywood and gently shape the rubber edge of the brush into a rectangular shape. Try to correct the shape of the tape evenly as you work. If you do dips, the car wiper on will leave wide stripes on the windshield.

If the rubber band cannot be restored, and the wiper frame is still in excellent condition, then replace it. Removing this tape is quite simple:

first bend the tape holders with a screwdriver
using small pliers, spread the tabs on the tab so that the tape can be easily pulled out
as you took out the tape, pull out the elastic plates from it, if they are bent, then pay attention to which side in order to correctly install the plates in the groove of the new tape.

I think this is a problem for many used cars, especially if it has been hitting for five years or more. Even if you bought new wipers (wiper blades), it is not a fact that the glass will clean well. The point is often not in the brushes, but in the holders or the so-called "leashes". From time to time they weaken and the windshield is poorly cleaned! Of course, you can buy new ones, but the price, to put it mildly, “ROLLS”, and this is not our method. Today I will try to tell you how you can repair (restore) with your own hands, and very budgetary, literally for a few tens of rubles. THE CONTENT OF THE ARTICLE

Often, the wipers not only do not clean well, they still rattle disgustingly on the windshield, they can even leave stains like a "ladder", such a brush goes up or down and a nasty creak or something like "drrr - drrr" is heard. This will eliminate it too. BUT everything is in order.

Actually, I did not take the original ones, because the price for the originals is very high, but I took frameless ones. There are a lot of different firms, I have no commitment to any, so that later you do not blame. I went to the E-katalog website and looked, selected according to the necessary parameters.

Frameless - windshield - various sizes (main - 650 mm, secondary - 380 mm) - preferably two pieces in a set at once - a serious company. And it so happened that the most suitable ones are BOSCH, by the way there are more expensive ones, but I see no reason to overpay. They have two pieces in a set at once, put it on and forget, and the price is normal.

Actually, what problem I have - my car is already 4 years old, I changed the wipers relatively recently, but after a few months, they began to clean poorly again. They ceased to normally nestle against the windshield. I consulted in one store where they sell windshield wipers, the seller came out, looked and said - you need to change the "leashes".

For those who do not know, the "leash" is the "wiper" holder itself, a metal piece that is attached to the engine (which rotates them).

The "leash" has an "eyelet" that is attached to the engine rod, it is connected to the main part through the axle, but the spring is responsible for pressing (from the ear to the main part), it is she who strongly presses the wiper to the glass, if it weakens, then wipers do not clean well, EVEN if you bought new wipers.

At first I did not attach any importance, well, I think I will buy new ones, and that's all! BUT it was not there - I came to the store, my AVEO has only original ones, their cost is screeching to say the least, about 2,100 rubles per piece, that is, both will be about 4,200 rubles. The most annoying thing is that I still have them in a good, nice form, there are no chips anywhere - scratches and rust, and they still serve and serve.

After a little thought, I decided to modernize (repair) them with my own hands, there is one weak link, namely the spring, so we will change it, but first you need to remove the leash and wiper.

I want to write a separate article about eating, but I had to suffer for half a day before I took off. The thing is that the "eyelet" sits very tightly on the wiper motor rod. YES, it can still be seen from time to time, it got stuck so much that by unscrewing the nut I could not remove it, which I just didn’t do, WD-40 splattered, I tried to knock, I tried to pry it with a screwdriver, nothing helps. YES, it's still scary - if you break the "stock", I'm just afraid what kind of money it will cost.

I had to buy a special puller, it is not at all expensive, but everything is removed elementary and simple, literally in a couple of movements, but I will write about this separately.

All the janitor together with the leash at my house, then what to do? To begin with, I decided to evaluate the spring, if you take the ear out, you can even feel it with your hand - that it has weakened, there is no previous rigidity! Apparently this is the whole reason. Well, you need to replace this spring with a new one, but first you need to remove it.

To remove this, also that "pleasure", she sits very firmly, it is UNREALABLE to remove it with pliers (I tried, only tore off the spring). However, everything is simpler than it really is.

Look - the spring catches on one side of the "bar" of the main part, on the other hand, for a metal bracket that is worn on the "eyelet" of the janitor. We need to take a copper cable enough (1) 1.5 mm for 2 cores, thread it through the metal bracket and pull it towards you. The wiper itself, it is advisable to put it on a chair and press it with something. Personally, I wrapped it with a towel and pressed it with my foot.

IT IS WORTH REMEMBER - that the spring is very stiff, it can "shoot", so we take precautions, remove watches, rings, and so on. It is advisable to cover your eyes with protective goggles! Or somehow neutralize the spring, for example, wind the fabric (if it shoots at it).

Thus, everything is removed - then we need to find a similar spring, but shorter, by several turns, so that the rigidity is higher.

There are a lot of such springs, some owners even buy leashes from VAZ, for example KALINA, PRIORA and others, remove from them and install on their holder. BUT! The price will be about 300 - 400 rubles, this is not our method, so we are looking for the trite spring itself.

Usually this is from the holders of the hood, trunk, as well as from VAZ brake pads. Personally, I took the "classics" from the pads first, but it turned out to be too short, I didn't have enough strength to pull it. Then I bought it from the front-wheel drive (VAZ-2108) and everything worked out, it is a couple of turns shorter, and gave a really good stiffness. The cost is only 40 rubles.

Feels like PRESS is much better.

We pull the spring back in the same way (through the wire) and go to put it on the car. The pinch is much better, really! We spray and turn on the wipers, CLEAN GLASS, victory.

And finally, I want to say - why the wipers creak, in fact, the reason here is banal:

Parallel arrangement... The brush should be strictly parallel to the glass, if it is tilted either in one direction or the other (that is, an acute angle is created), then it will creak or rattle, even a new one. She's just experiencing a lot of resistance. If this is the case with you, you need to take pliers and make it parallel to the glass, bending it corny. Then the squeaks will go away by 80%.

Bad pressure... If the brush does not press well against the glass, as I wrote above, the spring has weakened, then rattling (squeaks) is also possible. We just change to a new one and everything will pass.
