In detail: do-it-yourself nutria fur coat repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Wear resistance of nutria skins sheared and unshorn 50-60%, plucked 40%. The plastic properties of leather tissue are preserved for a long time. However, constant friction on the bag, carrying hands in pockets, the habit of folding hands on the stomach or, as in your case, when the fur coat takes the same position for a long time, will certainly cause the formation of bald patches and scuffs, which will give the coat an unpresentable look worn. In these cases, only a repair in a fur studio can help, where the master will offer to replace the fur plate or another option for eliminating defects. Nutria skins have good cutting properties, and the sizes of nutria skins are quite large: the length reaches 60 cm or more, the width is about 40 cm, so the hairline of the skins can be restored during the repair of the product. Restoration of the integrity of the hairline of the product is achieved by removing small worn areas of fur by cutting with a “fish”, moving full-fledged areas of fur to areas with damaged fur by lowering wedges, moving strips, as well as various inserts and attachments or replacing individual skins.

Fish cut. This method removes small abrasions of the hairline up to 1.5 cm wide on almost any part of the fur top (if the leather fabric gives a pull), as well as damage to the leather tissue. The cuts are made strictly along the direction of the hairline or at an angle not exceeding 30 °.

Wedge drop. This method is used quite widely when removing significant areas of the fur top with frayed hair and repairing damage to the leather tissue with a width of more than 1.5 cm. The method allows you to restore damaged areas of various configurations by lowering one or more wedges. The length of the wedge must be at least three times the width of the section to be removed.

Moving full-fledged sections of fur. The method is used to restore the integrity of significant-sized damaged areas of the fur top of a coat, jacket and other clothing. Instead of a removed area of fur (for example, on the central part of the back, shelves or sleeves), use a strip of fur located along or above the damaged area. The voids formed as a result of the movement of the fur strip are filled with the use of additional fur or the fur of the cuffs, lapels or collar of the product.

Which of the methods to choose and whether it is possible to turn the product into a fur coat with sheared fur - you need to decide directly on the spot with the master of the repair shop.

Dear housewives, please tell me, my nutria coat began to tear, maybe someone knows how to strengthen the fur, thank you in advance!

January 10, 12, at 00:46 I have been repairing fur coats for more than one year. I will not tell all the secrets, it will not work anyway. You need to understand what exactly you are holding in your hands. but my work has not yet been brought back.

I join Galina Ivanovai, Arina Perova, Olga Tolstykh. SUPER GLUE is the death of your fur coat. if the fur coat is torn it's easy, if it crawls it's worse. I usually change the fur in those places where he crawls, but I focus on my hands, they feel the skin. I cut out a dilapidated place, I insert a piece. at home, you can flash over the edge, do not be afraid. we removed the old place. from the face to the fur, I comb it to hide the seams ..I glue the places where I stitched it with the skin on rubber glue (they put linoleum on this glue, it is elastic. Buy on the construction market for spills) glue WITHOUT IRON. but we do not regret glue. I also strengthen my shoulders. I cut the skin again as needed, but please note. if you burst in the same place, this is not the reason for the skins. sometimes we gain weight or round slightly. even though we don't want to admit it. then it is better to insert pieces of fur. there is another way out. if there is not much skin left from the whole fur coat. I combine it with the skin. sew a new thing.

I hope you understand, I'm not a very good storyteller Image - Do-it-yourself nutria fur coat repair

In principle, repairing a fur coat from nutria is no different from repairing fur coats from other types of products (detailed instructions on this issue can be found here). However, there are still differences. Therefore, here we will talk about a couple of important points that you should consider if you decide to repair a nutria coat. So…

Nutria fur becomes brittle and brittle over time. As a rule, if the mezdra (leather underside of the fur) on the fur coat began to tear, it is useless to sew it up - it will tear again and again. Therefore, the most reliable repair options for such products are gluing and / or gluing + flashing. Read about how to put an adhesive patch on the fur.

But if a nutria fur coat is torn at the seam, one sizing for a full-fledged, high-quality repair will not be enough. You will first need to reinforce the edges with fabric or leather patches, and then sew the reinforced edges together.

Nutria, though beautiful, but very capricious fur. Therefore, if you have any difficulties with its repair, please contact the specialists of our studio for help.

1. On the occasion, I got a fur coat for free, from nutria, last year. Fur seems to be like nothing else, but the wrong side is leather (hereinafter MEZDRA) is very frail. Not because of the old age of the fur coat, not because the dressing is bad, which I am more inclined to, because. in some places, if you don’t pull the mezdra in different directions, it is stronger than jeans, and in some places it’s like toilet paper. Last year, I repaired it a little and wore it in the winter (later I’ll show last year’s repair in the photo), but over the summer I got a little better, and the moth gnawed the skin in one place, and from 3 fur coats, I only spoiled this one. So I decided it for one, with the repair of bald spots, shorten a little and embroider in the chest (everything is ok on the hips). And I filmed it all, suddenly it will be useful to someone

Actually, such a bald spot, in the center of the back was also on the cuff of the sleeve

For work, we need: a clerical knife (or a razor blade), rubber glue (moment or crystal or others), a thin needle, threads in the color of fur or similar in color (no thicker than No. 40), cotton fabric. If the hole is not large and the area of \u200b\u200bthe surface to be repaired is also small, then the glue and fabric can be replaced with a medical fabric adhesive plaster (hereinafter there is a photo of an example) Scissors and a pen or pencil, pieces of fur for repair (in my case, I shortened my fur coat and made it from cut fur patches and embroidered in the chest) And so let's get started: with a blade, or a knife, carefully holding the skin in weight, cut out a bald spot

We cut it out a little with a margin for good fur, then we put a piece of the bald spot on a good skin of the menzra to the menzra (as in the photo), observing the direction of the fur, circle it (without allowances) and holding the skin on weight carefully from the side of the menzra, cut out a piece identical to our cut out bald spot

then we insert the cut piece into the hole (we look at the direction of the fur), butt to joint and sew the thread to each other with oblique stitches, tighten it moderately (not much, but not weakly). Then in the same way we sew up all the holes and tears on the menzdra

There was a hole on the sleeve near the seam

Here I want to show that even if you have a gap into such small parts, do not despair, just carefully sew them into a single whole

And then we take our fabric glue and a fur coat and go to the balcony or corridor (because the glue smells very strongly in the apartment it is not advisable to glue it) there we coat the entire seam and from the seam 2 cm in each direction with glue, let it dry a little

put the fabric on and press firmly, make sure that all edges are glued

After all the seams are cat. repaired, glued, we again take a thread with a needle and stitch our “sticker” with oblique stitches. This completes the repair of the menzdra

And this is my last year's repair with adhesive tape, everything is the same as with glue and cloth

But I tried this as an experiment on double-sided tape, it’s also good, but there are some peculiarities, after the tape is glued to the menzdra, and on the tape the cloth, you need to wash the whole skin well in your hands, and then quilt it like everywhere else (here on quilting tape is a little more difficult, the needle gets stuck in the tape)

And this is the result of the work - the place where there was a bald spot

And finally, a few pictures of my sewing - alterations made of leather and fur. Here is such a sheepskin coat sewn from an old adult sheepskin coat, I will say that this is the second sheepskin coat that I have already altered

Here she was before the alteration, dirty in places with worn fur. The size of the adult sheepskin coat is 48, the children's at the exit is 134.

And this is our first sheepskin coat, both of them are made of natural suede, and the fur inside is woolen (natural on a woven basis), the edges are all natural

This coat is all faux fur plush

Here is such a vest we sewed from a collar and an edge from a grandmother's coat

Here is another fur coat and a hat, probably not very visible, but it has ears on top

And I made such a fur coat for myself the year before last, it is a transformer, the sleeves can be unfastened, the liner removed and you get a vest for spring

I hope my MK will be useful and someone will save on expensive repairs in the studio. I ask you not to pay attention to the absence of commas and errors at 4 o'clock in the morning, as it is not up to it. And at other times of the day - either the Internet loads for a long time, then the home ones do not give. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that after the repair, the fur coat must be thoroughly combed in order to straighten all the villi we captured during the quilting.

If this is a mechanical defect or a mole, then it makes sense to pick up a shred and carefully stick a shred from the inside of the fur coat with a thermal adhesive tape. You can repair a mink coat with your own hands, but only with experience in this area, because the repair of a mink coat is very narrow with many aspects and one mistake can ruin the whole coat. It is worth contacting a specialist studio.Well, her service life is long, so it’s better to take it to the studio, where they will neatly sew it for you.

The main thing is that this procedure leaves its small traces on the outer surface of the clothes. It all depends on personal skill, as well as the scale and nature of the damage. If there is no necessary experience, desire or damage is very severe, then you should seek help from experts. They have the necessary experience, abilities and tools to cope with this problem. Fortunately, there are a huge number of similar services. Similar clothes cost from 60 thousand rubles. Therefore, it is best not to try to show your own cutting and sewing skills when repairing a mink coat.

Yes, it is not cheap to turn to the master. Especially such a problem as a hole in the back. If you dare to do without the help of a specialist, then this video tutorial will help you. You yourself cannot repair a fur coat, do not even take up this matter. A mink coat is expensive and your attempts to fix it can completely kill everything. Contact not a bad studio, to a specialist, let them make decisions.

How to fix a nutria fur coat

Perfectly suited as an element of outerwear. In addition to its own great aesthetic properties, it also has good protective functions. It protects the body of a lady from the effects of severe cold, which can completely affect her general state of health in a bad way and lead to serious illnesses. And that means causing severe damage to both her appearance and beauty. Like no matter what other thing, a mink coat is subject to destructive effects under the negative influence of time and external events.

But obviously cheaper than buying the newest fur coat. If you still want to do it yourself, then you can read useful tips here. Before removing a hole in a fur coat, it is necessary to establish the prerequisites for its appearance. If this is a lack of fur, then it makes sense to change all low-quality skins. In this case, fur can be purchased, but it is difficult to match the color. If a hole was formed from the impact of a moth or has torn edges, there is only one way out - a workshop. Only specialists can assess the damage from the actions of insects and correctly change the pieces, and sewing the torn edges of the skins into a manual thing is completely impossible - most likely a new insert will also be needed here.

If you are into needlework, then it is worth trying if the scale of the disaster is not so great. The best thing is to give the thing to experts. It is enough to take a needle and strong threads and carefully cut the lining to sew a seam. Small holes can even be protected with a couple of stitches on top, no one will ever see black threads, well, you yourself won’t find them in a few minutes. If you do not have sewing skills, then you should not take on this business. So a mink coat is not cheap and you can just ruin it.

Also tricky and cunning moths. Moth can be easily fought with naphthalene. A mink coat consists of several small skins sewn together. If a moth has eaten a couple of skins, or the fur of one of the skins has worn out, you just need to contact the fur merchants and pick up the skins to match the fur coat, then contact the studio to replace damaged areas. Look what a hole has appeared.

If the seam just came apart, which often happens with fur coats sewn from pieces, which have a lot of these seams, then it is possible to do it on your own. How to repair a mink coat? She took out her fur coat, and a hole appeared on her back. What to do? The workshop will not be cheap. And if you still decide to repair it with your own hands, I advise you to watch this video clip. It seems that it was not cheap to turn to a specialist, you still need to do it. Because a mink coat is a very piquant thing.

But damage and defects of a fur coat come from time to time.Small flaws can simply be fixed on their own with the introduction of an ordinary needle and thread or glue. And then the harm will be greater if you ruin everything than you pay for the tailoring. A mink coat is not cheap.

This is the dream of any lady and the decoration of her wardrobe. The fur coat is not the 1st year. I would like to know the worldview of those who themselves solved such issues, with their own hands. A mink coat is a very important part of a woman's wardrobe.

It gives a harsh opportunity to feel feminine and pretty even in the conditions of winter cold.

Of course, at the beginning of my (c) fur path, I also glued such a nutria for a moment. the fur coat turned out beautiful and the customer wanted to come and sew something else. but didn't come
I do not advise using glue - the most unpleasant thing is that it injures the aesthetics of the fur = as if a piece of rubber was pulled on..
how do you like the option of a beautiful fur rug? - there and glue will not hurt

Hello! Thank you for such a wonderful topic, I'm still in the process of reading, there are a lot of materials, but my hands were already itching and I took out my mother's nutria coat. I already understood that the old nutria is not the most successful fur for altering, but still. I checked it in the indicated way - moistened it, pulled it - it does not tear, it only slightly stretches. Mom ripped the fur coat herself a long time ago, cut out the weakened places. And now I have two separate raglan sleeves and a large cut of the back and shelves. I want to make a vest with diagonal stitching in leather. And I can not understand the sequence of operations.
I understood it this way: First you need to choose a pattern. Then cut it into strips according to the stitching pattern. Then cut fur on it.
And then the questions came - do I need to cut the whole hide into separate pieces and assemble everything in a new way for my product, or can I ignore them?
Do I need to edit individual strips of fur? Or do you first need to assemble the hide (leather + fur) and edit everything together? And then just cut out the pattern?
And how to arrange the fur on the stripes? Is the direction of the hair like a lobe in the fabric?
Is it necessary to reinforce each cut with strips of fabric? Or does it depend on the condition of the skin in a particular place?
Another question - what seam to connect the skin and fur? I will sew by hand.

Something thought that the style must be different. I will gladly take advice!

The warmest thing in the winter wardrobe is a natural fur coat. Over time, your favorite thing wears out, especially the bottom of the coat. How to fix it? You can simply shorten the fur coat at home.

It is not worth taking on a complete cut of a natural fur coat at home. Only a specialist furrier can cope with this work. Therefore, it is better to contact a fur studio.

But, if the bottom of the sleeves or the bottom of the fur coat is wiped off or damaged by salt, which is abundantly sprinkled on our streets, then the fur coat can be helped by shortening the bottom. It's not as difficult as it seems. All you need is desire and patience, because almost all the work is done manually.

  • blade or sharp knife;
  • short and sharp needles for handicraft;
  • strong threads in the color of the lining of the fur coat;
  • thimble and cotton braid 1-2 cm wide, equal in length to the bottom of the fur coat.

So, first you need to carefully examine the bottom and mark all the damaged areas, then measure the fur coat and determine its new length.

You can both shorten it a little, and solve the problem radically - make a short fur coat out of a long fur coat.The principle of operation is the same.

Then you need to unpick the lining at the headboards just above the marked new bottom line. As a rule, the lining of fur coats is made to fly away (not sewn on the bottom).

Lay the fur coat on a flat surface, fold the lining up and with the handle
draw a new bottom line right across the core. It is better to do this by measuring the desired distance from the old bottom line.

Image - Do-it-yourself nutria fur coat repair

With a blade or a sharp paper knife, carefully cut the flesh, being careful not to damage the fur.

Vacuum the cut edges immediately after cutting to remove any excess hair.

Put on a fur coat for yourself or a mannequin and mark the bottom line on the lining exactly along the bottom of the fur coat.

Trim the bottom of the lining 4 cm below the cut edge of the fur coat.

Lay the fur coat on the table and align (cut more accurately) the bottom of the lining. The cut off piece of lining (if it is more than 20 cm) will come in handy, do not throw it away.

Mezdra is quite elastic, so it can stretch under the presser foot or overlocker. Gently, with a not very hot iron, in the wool position, glue a strip of non-woven fabric - kantenband along the bottom of the fur coat.

Important! Mezdra shrinks under steam, so we glue the strip without steam, with a dry iron. First, try to do this on a cut off piece of fur.

If the mezra changes under the iron, then it is better to sweep the strip of non-woven fabric by hand.

Apply cotton tape from the side of the fur and sew with a narrow overcast on the overlock (you can manually over the edge or on a typewriter). Lay the line from the side of the braid.

Turn the bottom of the fur coat with braid inside out and pin. In the corners of the headbands, fold the corner so that the hem of the bottom does not peek out from the front side, that is, with an envelope. The width of the hem can vary from 1 to 4 cm depending on the style.

Read also:  Do-it-yourself repair stabilizer resanta 10 kW

We hem the bottom, basting the braid. This is not easy to do, the mezdra is poorly pierced, so we take a short needle (it will not bend) and a thimble. We make the stitch so that it is shorter along the mezdra. So the stitches will not be visible from the front side.
Then manually sew up the corner at the selection. We comb the fur along the bottom, removing traces of stitches.

The cut off piece of the lining is ironed, if it does not fit, we take a new lining in color, cut out a strip 20 cm wide in the shape of the bottom.

Long sections of the lining must be ironed inside out.

We put the lining on the wrong side of the fur coat along the bottom, pin it over the braid.
At the headbands, we fill in short sections of the lining strip under the headband.

Sew the lining to the bottom of the braid with a blind stitch. At the same time, the mezdra is not captured, so it is not difficult to sew.

Sew the top edge of the lining strip to the fur coat. This work is more difficult, so we use a thimble. We take the threads to match the lining, so the stitches will not be so noticeable.

Image - Do-it-yourself nutria fur coat repair

What is this lining for? Firstly, the mezdra is light, with a detachable lining it will not be visible from the bottom. Secondly, the lining strip will protect the core from wear and contamination.

Tuck the bottom of the lining twice so that it is shorter than the bottom of the fur coat by the width of the hem of the fur and iron.

Adjust the hem of the lining. The width of the hem is 3-4 cm. Any decorative stitch can be laid along the bottom of the lining.

Sew the ripped lining to the hem. There is also cotton tape, so the lining is sewn over the tape.

Here's what should happen. Only the lining is visible on the bottom. Mezdra is protected.

Grab the lining on the sides of the fur coat with long stitches with upholstery - breeches.

Ready! The coat will still serve and warm in the cold.

I have the same story. Only fur coats 2 - muton and raccoon. I don’t know what to do with them, but it’s a pity to throw them away.

From a muton, I made myself a short fur coat to the waist. From Nutria, you can make a jacket with knitted or leather sleeves. The collar and bottom-belt are also made of knitwear. Knitwear is sold in large knitting - with an elastic band and is called "knitwear for cuffs"

This is how the sheepskin coat is remade

In our fur ateliers, excellent short fur coats, boas, vests, handbags, capes are made from old fur coats. Sweets are made, very modern!

I also have 2-nutria and muskrat.

In Volgograd. I think there are some in every city.

There are several options: to alter the daughter (if there is a child in the family), to sew a fur vest (to come up with finishing options so that it would not be boring), to update the fur coat (I fitted my Mouton one, sewed on a new silver fox collar, new beautiful buttons and trimmed it with a narrow strip of leather along the sides and bottom of the sleeves).

In general, you can just go shopping, peep something new in the design of fur coats and try to create something similar.

When my son was small, I made him a sheepskin coat and a hat from Mouton fur coats.

Hello to all!! Just yesterday, on the vast expanses of the network, I came across infa about trends for this winter - it seems not very practical, but oooooooo very cool - various sleeveless jackets made of fur, and fur is not sheared in fashion. Sleeveless jackets are fashionable not short, with different designs, combi of two different furs, etc. etc. Well, very beautiful. 1 With mittens, but with a hat with brim - imagine a vidok.

Armchair from an old fur coat

Spread and cut the bottom, make a short fur coat. From the cut off bottom, you can sew: a hood to a short fur coat (fasten with buttons to the collar) or a clutch, or a fur bag to a short fur coat. You can sheathe some old bag with pieces of fur. You can sew a fur vest on a fabric (silk or knitted woolen) lining. It's expensive to rent in the studio, you can do it all yourself. It is not very difficult, and there is still time before the cold weather. And if, apart from the insoles in galoshes, nothing comes to mind, then you can eventually rip it up, sew the parts into one large canvas, put them on some kind of lining and even hang them on the wall instead of a carpet, even lay them on an ottoman instead of a blanket.

In any case, no matter what you decide to do: the fur is cut with a sharp blade on the reverse side, ordinary scissors are superfluous here. On the edge, free up some space from the pile or shorten it very much (then you will get around the creases of the pile at the seams). It is advisable to put a knitted strip along the seams or something like that (soft, but it will sharply break through the skin at the seams).

Girls, give advice. Gave away an old nutria fur coat. Moth not beaten, almost good. I want to make a vest. Is it possible to upgrade the fur so that it becomes newer?

It depends on how old the fur is. I think nutria is not suitable for altering.

It's a pity, I thought that somehow you can give the desired look.Image - Do-it-yourself nutria fur coat repair

Irina. I believe the fur on the pile does not need to be updated. If you mean the strength of the core, then, as they say, an autopsy will show. I have experience as a restorer for more than 30 years and I can say one thing about nutria - everything depends on the dressing, hence the service life of the fur coat. During my entire practice, I came across two nutria coats at the age of 25, but it was Golden nutria, Australian. Did a redraw. no problem. But basically the dressing is domestic and terrible. And when working on the table, it can spread even when wearing the first season. The nutria has a very moisture-absorbing porous mezdra, actively absorbs sweat in the areas adjacent to the body in the neck and armpits. The seams under the sleeves quickly burst. on the shoulder blades. you need to rip and see the defects from the inside of the fur coat. Of course, worn areas of fur along the pile will need to be bypassed when cutting. I will not state all the details of the technology, since you take it, it means you are confident in your abilities. Good luck!

And so there is still hope. 🙂

Irin, first of all, open it up, the fur coat has nothing to lose anyway;

secondly, on the hands, over the edge (not with a tambour, but with an ordinary seam over the edge), sew up the burst and parted places (if any);

thirdly, cut, avoiding bald patches and scuffs, and if necessary, replacing these pieces with others, taking into account the similarity of the texture of the fur and the direction of the pile;

Fifthly, there are adhesives for fur, if the dressing is filthy and the fur coat has a lot of years, strengthen it.

Absolutely “dead” fur does not exist for me, go for it! :)

please tell me how to fix the skin? the fact is that I bought a fur coat from the Chinese. and it turns out to be sewn from thin long pieces.

Yeah, yeah, I get it. Thank you, it's already broken. Thought I would have to throw it out. 🙂

update and clean the fur from the tips for the hostess:

Parting with an old fur coat is not so easy, especially if it is beautiful and expensive. Such things are usually worn for a very long time, but anyway, at one fine moment, the style goes out of fashion, scuffs appear on the sleeves, and bald patches appear on the seams. What if the once elegant fur thing has lost its appearance, and in the nearest fur workshop they cannot offer anything acceptable? There is only one way out - to master the furrier's craft. How to alter a fur coat with your own hands? Models can come up with very interesting. Now we will discuss them.

Regardless of what you will do with an old fur coat, you will need some things, and it is better to prepare them in advance. Before altering a fur coat from a muton with your own hands, as well as from any other fur, prepare:

  • a pattern of what you will sew;
  • furrier knife (with a retractable blade);
  • tweezers;
  • high-quality cotton threads No. 40 or No. 45;
  • skin needles.

As for the materials, you will have some of them with a guarantee - the very fur coat that needs to be redone. But one fur is not enough. You need:

  • viscose fabric for lining;
  • if the design idea requires it - pieces of leather;
  • accessories (buttons, buttons, etc.).

It is best to make basic patterns. Fur coats and dresses are sewn on them. The basic pattern can be modeled, which is exactly what you need now. Where can I get it? You can do it in different ways:

  • order in the studio;
  • find something suitable in magazines or on the Internet;
  • build yourself;
  • rip and circle the details of an old, but suitable product (preferably a dressing gown).

The easiest options are to find in a magazine or circle the details of old clothes. In order to correctly build a pattern, you need a special manual. Most often these are professional publications or old books on needlework - there are a lot of them on the Internet.

Regardless of how you decide to get the pattern, you need to know your measurements. Without them, the pattern simply cannot be picked up and adjusted. In order to sew something else out of a fur coat that has lost its appearance, you need to know:

  • chest girth;
  • waist circumference;
  • hip girth;
  • neck girth;
  • product length;
  • sleeve length;
  • seam length from armpit to waist;
  • shoulder width;
  • shoulder length.

Important! When constructing a pattern, horizontal measurements are divided by 2.

Before you alter a fur coat with your own hands, you need to see what kind of material you have to deal with. Rate how good your fur is:

  1. Find out which pieces can be used and which ones are best removed.
  2. To determine the strength of suspicious places, moisten them with warm water and leave them alone for half an hour, and then try to gently stretch the core. If it does not start to tear and all the hairs remain in place, the fur can be safely used.
  3. Choose a style.
  4. Calculate how much fur you will need, what other materials can be added.
  5. Unpack your coat.

The first step is to cut off the lining. No special tools are needed for this - a simple tailor's ripper is enough.

Important! Using a blade is not very desirable, you can damage the core.

Lay out the details of the fur coat, and on them - the details of the pattern. See if there is enough fur or if you have to combine.

When considering options on how to remake a fur coat, consider several features of this material. Such knowledge will be useful when working with a muton, and with a nutria, and with a mink. New details are cut on the mezdra, not on the fur. It is done like this:

  1. Lay the piece of fur with the skin side up.
  2. Put a pattern piece on it.
  3. Chip off the details - in this case, not tailor's pins, but the most ordinary pushpins are more suitable.
  4. Cut out the seam allowance with a sharp furrier's knife, lightly touching so as not to cut the pile.

Important! Never press the fur against the table.

Converting old fur coats into fashionable ones with your own hands is a rather monotonous task and requires a fair amount of patience. Get ready to stitch by hand. Seams are used to work with fur:

Important! Why is hand stitching better than machine stitching? Everything is very simple. The pile will have to be constantly filled so that it does not remain on the wrong side. In this case, the seam should be on the skin, and not on the pile - the fur hides your work. The thread should be tightened very carefully. The stitches should not be too tight or too loose. In the first case, you run the risk of tearing the core, in the second, the seam will not hold.

Seams that carry a large load must be strengthened. This is what doubler is used for. You can also use special adhesive pads for leather and fur, they are also sometimes sold in sewing and furrier shops. The seams will have to be carefully aligned. For this you need:

The seam is moistened with a sponge, after which something heavy is placed on it (for example, an iron, but you don’t need to turn it on). You need to wait until it dries completely, and only then proceed to the next step. After the seam has dried, the fur must be combed along the seam - first against the pile, then in the direction of hair growth.

If you want to alter a fur coat with your own hands, the master class begins with the choice of threads. For such work, cotton of medium thickness is always used. Synthetics simply cut the core.

It is better to buy special needles for fur. But if those suddenly do not appear in a sewing store, you can also purchase ordinary ones that correspond to threads No. 40 or No. 45.

You can deal with an old fur coat in different ways. You can not alter anything at all, but simply shorten the hem or sleeves, and also hem. These are the simplest options, so let's start with them.

This method is suitable for a product made of any fur, but there is one condition - the fur coat must be detachable. She may be:

  • on the coquette;
  • detachable along the waist line;
  • with a low waist, that is, cut off along the hips.

Important! This method is recommended if the horizontal seams do not line up with the corresponding lines of your body.

In this way, you can very significantly change the style.

  1. Spread the seam with which the upper part is stitched to the bottom.
  2. Set aside along the seam the desired length along the side seam of the bodice or skirt.
  3. Sweep the details.
  4. Try on what happened.
  5. Sew the top and bottom with a goat or furrier stitch.

Important! From the remnants of fur, you can make jewelry or sew a muff.

This part of fur products wears out most often. The pick-up rubs against the clothes, as a result, bald patches are obtained. It is best to replace the parts, and at the same time install new fittings, because buttons and hooks also wear out over time.

Important! New selections can be made from faux fur, leather, and even thick fabric, but the first two options are better.

The lower parts of the sleeves also “bald” quite often. There are two ways to deal with the problem:

  • cut and hem if the sleeves are long;
  • sew on new cuffs.

It is better to hem with other material. There is no need to completely rip the sleeve - just rip off the edge of the lining and insulation (if any), the lining and part of the seam adjacent to the cuff.

Bald places, if they are at the very bottom, are best trimmed:

  1. Measure the sleeve width (including allowances).
  2. Cut out a strip 3-5 cm wide from leather, faux fur or dense fabric - its length is equal to the width of the sleeve.
  3. Align the long section of the strip with the bottom of the sleeve, right sides together.
  4. Sew a seam.
  5. Bend the strip to the wrong side, and pull out the villi that have fallen into the seam with a needle to the front side.
  6. Bend the strip to the wrong side by 0.5 cm and sew it with a “goat”, tucking the edge of the lining and insulation under it.

Want to shorten an old fur coat? It's easy to do. You will have to unpick a little - only the hem. By the way, do not forget to carefully look at how it is done - this will greatly facilitate your task:

  1. Open the bottom hem (the side seams can be left open).
  2. Set aside along the side seams how much you need to shorten the fur coat, do not forget about the width of the hem itself.
  3. Shorten the lining and insulation by the same amount.
  4. Moisten the place that you will hem with a sponge from the side of the mezra, bend it and put it under the press.
  5. Insert the edge of the lining into the hem.
  6. Hem the fur coat with a goat seam.
  7. Comb the hairs on the front side so that they lie naturally.

If there are many damaged places and the product cannot be updated in simple ways, you will have to rip it open and sew something new. There are places that wear out the most intensively:

  • collar;
  • the bottom of the sleeves;
  • shoulder seams;
  • in long fur coats - the edge of the hem.

Naturally, you will not need damaged areas. The first step is to remove them, and then rip open what is left.

The easiest way to remake an old fur coat that has worn sleeves and a collar is to sew a vest out of it. Any fur is suitable for this. You will also need:

  • lining fabric;
  • two buttons.

If there is a pattern, it’s very good, but in this case it doesn’t cost anything to do without it.

Important! Marking can be done directly on the mezdra (it is better to draw with a ballpoint pen). It is necessary to use, if possible, whole parts - shelves for the front, back - for the back.

How to alter a fur coat with your own hands, having a vest pattern in your hands:

  1. Put the pattern on the corresponding part of the fur coat and pin.
  2. Outline.
  3. Make allowances and circle again.
  4. Cut with a sharp knife (you can use scissors with short ends, but this will be long and inconvenient).
  5. Baste details at the shoulder and side seams.
  6. Try it on, adjust if necessary, and then cut out the lining according to the corrected pattern.
  7. Mark the clasp and sew on the buttons.
  8. Iron the lining allowances to the wrong side.
  9. Sew on the lining (best done by hand).

Important! Armholes and neckline can be sheathed with strips of leather.

This is a short vest, it can be sewn from a heavily worn fur coat. Since the shelf and back are short, they can be cut from any whole parts. The main thing is to make sure that the direction of the pile is the same on different fragments. Everything else is done in the same way as when sewing a regular vest.

If there is a lot of fur, but a whole fur coat still does not work out of it, you can make a combined one. Thus, you can alter a fur coat from nutria with your own hands, and from other types of fur too.

  • with leather straps
  • with leather inserts at the waist or sleeves, as well as with leather patches.

In the first case, identical horizontal stripes of leather and fur are cut out. It is better to make them according to the pattern. The strips are sewn together, and only then the whole product is assembled. In the second method, parts or their fragments are made of leather.

Mouton, also known as tsigeyka, is considered to be almost eternal fur. So it is quite possible that somewhere in the grandmother's closet there is still a fur coat, bought half a century ago and out of fashion a long time ago. It's time to make something interesting out of it.At your disposal will be dense and heavy fur, which is best used for its intended purpose, that is, to make a new one out of an old fur coat, modifying it in one of the ways already proposed.

This fur is not suitable for making jewelry. But from it you can sew:

The procedure for making a plaid or carpet is quite simple:

  1. Spread the fur coat without touching the side seams.
  2. Remove bald patches.
  3. Assemble a new panel, picking up details along the contours - you can even make a template.
  4. Cut out the missing parts from other fur or leather.
  5. Finish the edges with bias tape.

Parting with expensive fur is especially insulting. A mink coat can be upgraded with as many details as possible. If there is a lot of fur, nothing prevents you from making a short fur coat or a mix fur coat with inserts. But there are other options as well.

From such fur you can sew:

  • a skirt, complementing it with a leather jacket with inserts from the same mink;
  • a hood with a shoulder or a short medieval cloak;
  • plaid;
  • shoes;
  • mittens, a hat and even a scarf;
  • decorations;
  • bag.

Important! The mink is beautifully dyed, so you may not have to change anything - the yellowed fur can be dyed a different color, and the fur coat will look like new.

The nutria has long and rather hard fur. It is warm and durable, and besides, it has water-repellent properties. Oddly enough, such a fur coat can not only be altered, but even bandaged. To do this, the thing must be torn open and dissolved into strips 2-3 cm wide. This should be done very carefully, trying not to cut the pile. All this is wound into a ball, woolen, cotton or acrylic thread is added, and then knitted with a thick hook.

In a word, there are a lot of options for creating new clothes or household items. But what should not be done in any case is to store damaged fur products in the apartment. They not only clutter up the closet. Such things are very attractive to moths, so if you don’t deal with the old fur coat in time, you run the risk of parting with new fur or woolen things.

But on this we do not say goodbye, come again!
