Do-it-yourself beaver fur coat repair

In detail: do-it-yourself beaver fur coat repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Tatyana, I’m afraid to cut off 5-6 cm will not be very beautiful, since you will cut a number of skins in half (as a result, it looks like some pieces were sewn to the hem). You will have to cut off one whole row anyway, and already mend it. In addition, in what you propose to cut off, there will still not be a single pair of completely identical pieces: the skins on the shelf are darker than the skins on the back (although now this is not noticeable).

Of course, I do not suggest restoring all fur coats in this way. I just came up with this idea and thought I'd share it. And whether this is acceptable in each individual situation must be considered.
As for the color, if the fur is black, dark brown or, conversely, light or white, then the difference will not be evident. And honorik also has dark stripes along the ridge, and the vertical seams are clearly expressed, so the difference in shade between adjacent skins is the last thing that draws attention to.
And as for the height of the strip to be cut off, this is also individual. Sometimes you see this in stores. We need to figure out what will turn out, how it will look, maybe it will not be so striking. If the skins are initially long enough, then it is not very noticeable that they were shortened. You can bend the hem before this and see how it will look.

I completely agree with Natasha, about the bottom row - this is according to all the rules - the last row should be whole. But, we had such work repeatedly and we cut the bottom. Because for some reason the client wants to do so and does not want to listen to any explanations. In this situation, the main thing is not to leave a very small strip that stands out visually.

I post a photo of an elementary way to restore the worn edge of the sleeve. Any beginner will do!
Sleeve with a lapel (a strip of fur inside the sleeve that can be folded outward). The fold of the fur along the bottom of the sleeve during wear shifted from the seam to the inside of the sleeve. The pile was rubbed to the bald spot, but on a very narrow strip (about 3 mm).
- I ripped off the lining and straightened the cuffs
- cut with a blade along the worn area
- carefully cut off the frayed area along the edges of the resulting cut (the photo shows the waste)))
- sewed the incision back with a furrier suture
– if necessary, you can moisten and straighten the place of restoration. I didn't have to do it, everything turned out not noticeable
- Comb the pile on the shovchik well.
The last photo shows a light area of fur where there was a bald patch. The camera brightens, and it's almost not noticeable. It is also necessary to moisturize and comb the pile in the other direction.
After that, I fixed (quilted) the cuffs so that the fold no longer shifted from the horizontal seam, sewed on the lining. For everything about everything no more than an hour.

A fur coat is an expensive and luxurious outerwear. Most often, its cost starts at $ 1,000. Therefore, each owner takes care of her and tries to do everything possible so that she lasts as long as possible.

But it is far from always possible to preserve the appearance of a fur product. Improper care, poor dressing and manufacturing errors can all lead to holes or seams coming apart. In such a situation, the hostess is faced with the question: ask for help in the atelier or do everything yourself?

Armpits on a fur coat are one of the weakest and most vulnerable places. It is here that a product made of natural fur is torn most often. You can fix such a defect with your own hands. To do this, you will need the following tools:

- a couple of needles of various sizes;

- threads that match the color of the fur.

The simplest and most easily repaired damage is when the fur coat is torn under the arm along the seam. In this case, you only need to flash the attachment point twice. It is also necessary to securely fix the threads of the old seam in order to prevent its re-opening.

Action plan:

  • First of all, you need to dry the fur product, for which it needs to be laid out on a flat surface.
  • Next, you need to connect the torn edges and sew them together.
  • After that, you should cut off a small piece of the bandage, pour a little glue on it and attach it to the seam.
  • Now let the coat dry.
  • Do not hang it on a hanger or touch it for one to two days.

The list of reasons why the mezra is torn should include poor dressing of skins or old age of the fur. Also, poor care often leads to damage to the wrong side of the product.

To get rid of the defect, you can simply sew up the fur at home. Best suited for this furrier hand seam. It is performed like this:

  1. Gently fold the mezra with the hairline inward.
  2. Next, you need to sew from right to left. The seam should be similar to the standard overlock. The main difference is that the needle is stuck twice in the same place. As a result, the junction on the reverse side will become almost flat.
  3. It is very important after the end of the darning to unfold the fur product and iron the seam with a thimble, after moistening it.

Such simple actions allow you to make the bonding point absolutely invisible either to the touch or in appearance.

If it was not possible to sew the mezdra and it still tears, then it must be strengthened by gluing a thin strip of fabric or leather. But do not use super glue for this, as it will simply crack at the point of rupture.

How else to glue a fur coat from a mink, from a nutria, from a muton and from a rabbit? Moment glue is a good choice. But it is very important to put a piece of soft thin tissue on the torn part. This will make the seam much more secure.

If any part of the fur product is torn at the seam, then you can repair everything yourself. For this you need:

  1. Put the damaged parts together.
  2. Put a layer of gauze or similar fabric on top.
  3. Fasten the pieces together with pins.
  4. Glue everything together with Moment glue or another solution designed for gluing suede or leather.

If everything was done correctly, then the seam will be restored and will last for more than one year. In this case, the appearance of the fur coat will not be spoiled.

Most often, fur products are torn on the sleeve or back. To properly sew up a hole on the back of a fur coat, you must first rip off the lining and insulation. Next, cut and put a patch on the damaged area. Image - Do-it-yourself beaver fur coat repair

The patch with the help of threads in the tone of the fur and a needle is sewn to the place of the gap. It is stitched using a standard marker line. After the end of the restoration, you should knock on the place of damage with a wooden mallet. Because of this, the fur will become much more even.

In the case of a sleeve, it is necessary to open the side seam and open the lining. If the gaps are even, then you can do the repairs yourself. Otherwise, the best and right decision would be to seek help from a specialist.

If a hole appeared on the sleeve under the arm, then to correct such a flaw, it is necessary to insert and securely sew on a piece of fur. You can buy it either in the studio, or cut it off from another fur product, if it will be redrawn in the future. If the hole is small, then you can do with only soft glue. In this case, a rubber solution would be the ideal solution.

Fur coats made of astrakhan fur are best repaired. Due to the wavy structure of the fur, the seam will be completely invisible. Therefore, you can restore such products as often as you want.
