In detail: do-it-yourself chair repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
In an upholstered chair, the seat crumbles over time, and its upholstery fades, wipes off and even breaks. But you should not throw away such chairs: it is quite within the power of a home craftsman to fix them.
Any furniture sooner or later falls into disrepair.
So our old chairs have wiped upholstery in places, and foam rubber fell from the underside of the seats.
The chairs were made quite soundly - and I didn't want to throw them away. Therefore, the chairs in the amount of six pieces migrated to the dacha. And so. after the end of the dacha season, we got around to repairing them.
The removable seat frames of all chairs were in good condition and the seat upholstery only had to be redesigned.
Chair upholstery - it's not difficult. The main thing is desire and a small amount of tools and material.
The first thing I did was to remove the old upholstery from all the seats (no jewelry was found). But the foam rubber that has fallen into disrepair was formed in abundance. Not only was it crumbling, it was also sticky - I had to scrape off the rest of it with a knife. Longitudinal flat springs are installed on the seat frame, which are well preserved. But I decided to improve the spring system a little.
I attached a strip of stainless steel to each frame from below with self-tapping screws perpendicular to the springs: it will protect the springs from strong deflection and thus prevent the new foam rubber and upholstery from quickly deteriorating. So that the foam rubber does not lie directly on the springs I cut it to fit the frame and stapled it.

I prepared all six chairs in the same way. I bought foam rubber with a thickness of 2 cm. I made a pattern for it with an allowance of 1 cm around the entire perimeter. The material for the upholstery was provided by the wife from old stocks. It turned out to be corduroy of a variegated color - this is quite suitable for a summer residence.
The corduroy was cut with a margin for the fold. After cutting, I began to fasten the upholstery with staples. First of all, I fixed the material with a slight interference in the middle of the opposite sides of the frame. Then he wrapped the corners - and also secured them with brackets. Then, pulling the material evenly, attached the remaining parts.
In conclusion, I decided to close all the folds, springs and matting with white dense material. I also cut it (material) with a small allowance - and secured it. The seat now looked good from either side. It remains to put the seats back in place - and you can use the updated chairs.
1. I started by removing the old upholstery.
2.For reliability, I attached a stainless steel strip perpendicular to the springs.
3-4. New foam rubber and upholstery fabric cut out for the seats with a small allowance.
5. He fastened the fabric with snobs, starting from the middle of the sides of the wound.
6.White dense material covered the bottom of the seat.
7.The updated ones will still not serve as truth in the country

You shouldn't throw away old furniture right away. You can easily make a bright interior detail from it without going to a specialized workshop. Before you start remodeling an old chair with your own hands, you need to decide on the type of breakdown, the type of product and prepare the necessary tools and materials. There are several types of operations that you can carry out yourself:
Depending on the experience and the complexity of the design, these procedures will take from 1 to 4 hours.
Knowing how to properly repair a chair, most of the procedures for its restoration can be performed in a home workshop. To do this, you need to prepare all the accessories, materials and tools.
If the set of tools for the restoration of furniture is always approximately the same, then the choice of accessories for the repair of chairs depends on the type of breakdown and the type of product. To repair an office chair, you will need casters, a crosspiece and a gas lift. All of them are selected according to the type of construction. The minimum set of tools you need to upgrade your home chair:
hand tools: hammer, screwdriver, pliers;
scissors, hand stapler;
sling, high-strength tape, textiles and accessories;
This is a basic set of tools that will be supplemented depending on the type of repair. For example, in order to remodel an old chair with wooden armrests, wooden structures are needed; You can remodel furniture by sanding, further painting or varnishing. This will require additional equipment and materials.
Do-it-yourself repair of any chair begins with its disassembly and study of the design. Main internal parts of the structure:
wooden frame;
filler on the back and seat;
textile or rubber slings;
armrests;
plywood on the back wall;
Consideration of these details will help determine which components need to be replaced, repaired when remaking old Soviet armchairs.
Parts of the chipboard seat that begin to crumble must be replaced. Breakages and cracks in the wood are coated with glue and fixed with staples. All parts in the spike joints are carefully knocked out with a rubber mallet so that there is no damage to the polish and edges. The grooves are cleaned from the glue with a scalpel or knife. The details of the spike joints are coated with PVA glue, the bandage is wound on the spike and all the details are hammered into place. It takes about a day to dry completely.
What to do if your hand does not rise to throw away the old squeezed chair that belonged to your grandmother? Do-it-yourself furniture restoration is not as difficult as it seems at first glance.
The technology of repairing upholstered furniture, apparently, will never become outdated, because it allows you to breathe new life into old and out-of-sight chairs, sofas and armchairs. Of course, buying new furniture is much easier, but what if you don’t raise your hand to throw away a beautiful antique chair that belonged to several generations of the family? Compared to a sofa renovation requiring the knowledge and skills of a professional, it is not that difficult to renovate a chair. True, you have to show perseverance and accuracy.
A set of operations to repair a chair seat is called an upholstery. The essence of the main stages of work (braiding, installation of springs, filling with filler, etc.) does not depend on the model and type of chair.
Then install the springs, that is, place them on a tensioned webbing. When upholstering upholstered furniture, springs of a wide variety of sizes are used. If you are going to use wooden wedges, then the springs should be 2 cm above their ends. When repairing a chair without wedges, select the springs so that they match the height of the finished chair (the height is measured in the middle of the seat).
Distribute the springs evenly over the area of the seat so that they are symmetrical about the center axis of the chair. The knots on their upper flares (or circles) should converge towards the center of the seat. Sew the springs to the braid, then tie them with two strings, making loops from the first, and knots from the second (also called "return string").
Tie the springs with twine so that they are lower at the back of the seat than at the front.Then, additionally secure them with an intermediate cord and cover with a thick cloth, sewing it to each spring and nailing it to the wedges and crossbars of the seat.
Using a curved needle and cord, sew the first seam 3 cm from the edge of the seat to the thick fabric, then sew two or three more seams in a smaller size. Leave about 3 cm free ends near the cords for attaching the hair filler (usually of plant origin).
