Using the blade of a screwdriver, we "sink" the retainer on the lower pressure plate of the pads. We take out the outer brake shoe from the shoe guide. Likewise, remove the inner brake shoe from the shoe guide.

Before installing new shoes, remove the upper and lower pressure plates from the shoe guide. We clean the parts of the brake mechanism from dirt and corrosion, especially the pressure plates of the brake pads and their seats in the guide of the pads. It is forbidden to use gasoline and diesel fuel to clean the brakes. Having inserted the pressure plates into the shoe guide, we install new brake pads. When installing the inner pad, orient it so that the acoustic wear indicator is at the top of the pad. To do this, insert the pliers with narrow jaws into the piston sockets and turn it clockwise while pressing the piston. It seems that it does not rub when driving, but it gets warm. Clean the pads well. The pads move along a stainless plate, clean it from rust underneath and above it. The photo shows that the pads are very close to the disc. Cleaned off the rust and everything is OK.

I did not encounter guides, but the problem with the piston is solved easily and painlessly.

The brake mechanism of the front wheel of the Chevrolet Cruze is disc, with automatic adjustment of the gap between the pads 10 (Fig. 27) and the disc 1, with floating
staple.

The movable bracket is formed by a caliper 11 with a single-piston working cylinder. The shoe guide is bolted to the steering knuckle.

The Chevrolet Cruze caliper is attached with bolts 4 and 7 to guide pins installed in the holes of the guide pads. The guide pins are greased and protected by rubber boots.

A piston with an O-ring is installed in the cavity of the wheel cylinder of the Chevrolet Cruze. The elasticity of this ring maintains an optimal clearance between the pads and the ventilated disc, the surface of which is protected by a brake shield.

When braking, the piston, under the influence of fluid pressure, presses the inner pad against the disc of the Chevrolet Cruze, as a result of the reaction force, the caliper moves on the fingers and the outer pad is also pressed against the disc, while the pressing force of the pads is the same.

The main brake cylinder of the Chevrolet Cruze (Fig, 28) is a tandem hydraulic brake drive consists of two separate chambers connected to independent hydraulic circuits. The first camera is associated with the right front and left rear brakes, the second with the left front and right rear.

Tank 2 is installed on the main brake cylinder of the Chevrolet Cruze through rubber connecting bushings, the inner cavity of which is divided by partitions into three compartments. Each compartment feeds one of the brake master cylinder chambers and the clutch master cylinder.

The brake mechanism of the rear wheel of the Chevrolet Cruze is disc, with automatic adjustment of the gap.

Brake pads 9 and 10 (fig. 29) are driven by one hydraulic slave cylinder. The optimal clearance between the disc and the pads is maintained according to the same principle as for the brakes of the front wheels.

The disc working brake mechanism of the rear wheel of the Chevrolet Cruze is combined with the parking brake mechanism. The inner cavity of the brake disc also serves as the brake disc of the parking brake.

The parking brake of the Chevrolet Cruze, mechanically actuated, consists of a lever, an adjusting device, two rear
cables and brakes on the rear wheels.

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) of the Chevrolet Cruze consists of wheel speed sensors, a brake pedal switch, a hydroelectronic control unit (HECU) and a warning light in the instrument cluster.

In the event of a malfunction in the ABS system, the Chevrolet Cruze provides diagnostic and maintenance functions for system failures.

The hydroelectronic control module receives information about the vehicle speed, direction of travel and road conditions from the wheel speed sensors, the steering wheel angle sensor, and the throttle position sensor.

After turning on the ignition, the Chevrolet Cruze control unit supplies voltage to the wheel speed sensors. The sensors use the Hall effect, they generate an output signal in the form of rectangular pulses.

The signal changes in proportion to the rotational speed of the impulse ring of the sensor mounted on the outer hinge of the wheel drive. Based on this information, the control unit determines the optimum wheel braking behavior.

There are the following operating modes of the Chevrolet Cruze anti-lock braking system:

- normal braking mode. During normal braking, the solenoid valve is de-energized, the inlet valve is open, and the outlet valve is closed.

When the brake pedal is depressed, the brake fluid is supplied under pressure to the slave cylinder through the solenoid valve and activates the wheel brakes.When the brake pedal is released, the brake fluid returns to the brake master cylinder through the inlet and check valves.

- emergency braking mode. If, during emergency braking, the wheel begins to lock, the module issues a command to the solenoid valve to reduce the supply of brake fluid, then voltage is applied to each solenoid valve.

The inlet valve closes and the brake fluid supply from the master cylinder is shut off; the outlet valve opens, and the brake fluid flows from the working cylinder to the main cylinder, and then to the reservoir, which causes a decrease in pressure;

- pressure maintenance mode. With the maximum decrease in pressure in the working cylinder, the module issues a command to the solenoid valve to maintain the brake fluid pressure, voltage is supplied to the inlet valve and is not supplied to the outlet valve.

In this case, the inlet and outlet valves are closed and the brake fluid does not leave the working cylinder;

- pressure increase mode. If the module detects that the wheel is unlocked, then it de-energizes the solenoid valve.

The voltage is not applied to the solenoid valves, the brake fluid through the inlet valve enters the working cylinder, the pressure in which increases. For
diagnostics and repair of anti-lock braking system requires special equipment and accessories.

The hydraulic brake system of the Chevrolet Cruze is integrated into a single unit with metal pipes and flexible hoses. The system is filled with a special brake fluid of at least DOT-4 class, which must be replaced periodically.

If the brake pedal always vibrates when braking, the brake discs are most likely warped. Unfortunately, in such a situation, they only need to be changed, and both at once.

The periodically appearing and disappearing vibration of the pedal during sudden braking accompanies the operation of the anti-lock braking system and does not
is a symptom of a malfunction.
