Why make a walk-behind tractor, garden shredder or tractor when you can buy it in a store, especially since it saves your own time? The first weighty argument is because it is cheaper!

Secondly, factory equipment does not always meet the needs of summer residents: even if it captivates with a beautiful design, and the safety issue is well thought out, it does not always cope with the tasks assigned to it. For example, the electric motor located at the bottom of the garden shredder does not allow processing raw materials: stalks for compost, fruits with seeds for homemade wine. Or even the most sophisticated apparatus is too tough for branches more than 3-4 cm thick, and it is desirable that they be straight. Finally, some things are either not on sale, or they are incredibly expensive.

It is in such cases, when summer residents need more powerful, versatile and durable equipment, when they want to realize their inventive potential and make the necessary thing in the household with their own hands, they take on homemade products.

Alexey Fedorov faced a similar problem when choosing a walk-behind tractor: there is a wide choice of models in stores, but there was no car that could cope with processing a plot of 19 acres and at the same time fit into the allocated budget. As a result, the idea came to make the device myself, since the familiar artist Mikhalych helped the owner in this: Alexey, as a techie, got to realize the idea and finalize the invention.

The engine for the walk-behind tractor was borrowed from the "Ant" T-200 scooter: it was not difficult to adjust it for other tasks. The frame was welded from 4 mm thick sheet iron and 40 mm pipes. The engine was rigidly attached to it on three supports. A magneto and carburetor were installed. A muffler, an air filter and the upper part of the cover of the forced cooling system of the engine with an air stream were made from scrap materials and spare parts.

The combine shared sprockets and shafts with flanges. The drive from the engine to the shafts - using a chain drive (two Izhevsk chains were used: one was thrown onto a large sprocket from the gearbox, a drive was made to the shafts inside the frame). Alexey draws attention to such a moment. The optimum shaft speed can be achieved by selecting the gears, but everything is limited by the size of the lower frame casing, otherwise it will not let you simply sink into the ground.

The craftsmen lubricated the internal chain with oil, providing for this a filler and drain hole. The steering wheel was made from a pipe. It has several height positions and can be folded for transportation. There are three gears in the checkpoint, the first one is enough for work, otherwise you will not keep up with the car. Transmissions are turned off manually. Also, the carburetor flap control drive was made manually, made using a grinder and welding from a pipe and a bar. The member of the forum says that a decompressor handle from a motorcycle will also work, but the cable travel will be small.

Alexey attached a wheel to the walk-behind tractor. Its installation allows you to adjust the depth of plowing the soil. Another advantage is the reduction of the load on the hands, which is important given the significant weight of the device - about 90 kg. Nozzles with a grip width of 120 cm were made of pipes and a corner, on the shaft they are fixed with a key in the groove and with a bolt against axial movement.

After test work, it turned out that the power of the engine used was enough with a margin: the virgin soil was plowed to the depth of a shovel bayonet in two or three passes. On normal ground, there is no need to re-pass with the capture of the previous strip. Among the minuses - the walk-behind tractor is somewhat clumsy. However, problems do not arise if you cultivate only a vegetable garden, without plantings.

To move from place to place, Aleksey inserts the wheels inside the pipe with knives and fixes them with a bolt through and through, without removing the attachments from the shafts (this allows him to make a 150 mm overhang of the shafts). The owner's plans are to make a support for the shafts for transportation in the back, since without attachments the car is much lighter and does not spoil the body, reduce the wheels and make a plow so that you can huddle, plant and dig out potatoes. The motoblock cost a member of the forum about four thousand rubles, many parts were found or taken from friends.

Garden waste shredder

A garden shredder is a useful thing: when there is not enough organic fertilizers, but you don't want to use mineral fertilizers, homemade compost comes to the rescue. It is not so easy to get it from a large and hard material: it will take 3-4 years to ripen. However, if the thick branches and stems of weeds are pre-chopped, the compost will be ready in a few months.

Viktor50 made a garden debris shredder himself, using a block of 26 cheap circular saws with victorious surfacing (even if they break, it's easy to replace) and a 2.2 kW electric motor. The only drawback was the cable behind the cultivator, but the operation of the motor was not audible, and the exhaust gases did not bother.
In three hours, the device turned a pile of half-rotten wood that remained after the uprooting of the site into an excellent crumb, which can be used as compost or sprinkled under strawberries during the ripening of berries. Viktor50 was pleased with itself: factory shredders cost five times more, and their 2-4 knives become dull after half an hour of work.

Staratel2010 made a similar device from an old MTD lawn mower. At the knife, he cut off the blades that guided the mulch into the collection.The drain from the sink came in handy (for the "test" on the tank) - it was cut into a hole in the mower's body. The height of the drain is under the knife.

The forum member notes that the device requires revisions: you need to replace the plastic funnel with a metal one, because the pipe is broken by thick raspberry rods, make a better mount and put a square tank to make it more convenient.

The homemade shredder impressed the owner with its work: it easily threshed a couple of wheelbarrows, raspberry sprouts and less solid material. At the same time, Staratel2010 noted that when you simply release a branch and tighten it at high speed, long pieces are obtained, but if you hold it with your hand, then everything is ground into dust.

Aleksej2000 has assembled a small tractor from scrap metal. He took the car engine from the Golf II, the bridges from the Volga - he bought them from scrap metal, where he got the transfer case from the Niva, the wheels - from the Zil on the R20. A lowered or raised frame 4x4 (breaking) is used to remove firewood from the bushes. Works like a tank.

Flaws: drive shafts often break at the welding sites, there are no grooving machines, the "knee" welding is not at the proper level. The conclusion of a forum member: if you have money, it is easier and cheaper to buy ready-made garden equipment than to spend time and money on repairs.
