In detail: do-it-yourself repair of the Audi 80 speedometer from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Quite common breakdown of Audi 80 speedometers - kilometers stop spinning. This is due to the small plastic gear, which breaks easily enough.
You can fix this malfunction of the Audi 80 speedometer with your own hands, having a bit of skill and having patience. First you need to remove the speedometer needle, which, by the way, can be removed very easily. Then comes the turn of the dial. You can see how a knowledgeable person does this, and find out the details of repairing the Audi 80 speedometer by watching this video.
To remove the dashboard, unscrew the two self-tapping screws on the bottom of the steering column cover. The screwdriver goes into the holes on the bottom, left and right of the handlebars. It is enough to remove the upper part, and two self-tapping screws will be visible, securing the tidy to the torpedo. By the way, the manufacturer's brand is written on the tidy between the screws, for example, for me, VDO, for someone else. Japanese, there is practically no difference. Pulling on the right edge of the tidy, remove the BLUE plug, it is just on the right. To do this, use a screwdriver to gently raise the 5 millimeters of the lilac bar in the middle of the connector and remove the connector. After that, the dashboard can still be pulled towards you and the white plug will be visible from the inside on the left side. On it, you need to press on the bar that goes off at an angle, while the locking hook on the connector is squeezed out and it can also be removed.
Now we sink the right back a little and pull out the left edge of the tidy, there we are held by a yellow plug. The length of the wires on it allows you to pull it towards you, but the wiring can cling to the edge of the hole, so we act even more gently. The YELLOW connector is removed in the same way as the blue one, by pulling the locking bar up. Everything. We carefully remove the tidy to the right between the steering wheel and the torpedo. Yes, the book recommends removing the steering wheel. I have not filmed, it goes well.

Now the houses have turned the tidy upside down and unscrew
13 yellow self-tapping screws around the perimeter of the board. One of the self-tapping screws in my version with an electronic clock is not very good, it is difficult to reach it with a screwdriver, only at an angle. You can use a small wrench, 7 seems to be. Also, in my version without a computer and climate, it is necessary to unscrew the three black self-tapping screws and remove the display unit. I don’t give photographs, because it’s elementary, and if you didn’t manage to remove the tidy, it’s better not to go further, which means that this operation is not for you. Trust the experts. Congratulations, you have passed the first level, the easiest one. You can smoke.
We turn off the four white self-tapping screws from the back side and you can gently lift the board and put it aside, only the speedometer remains.
We put it with the arrow up and first remove the black lid in the center, it is attached to the arrow on three internal protrusions, in the photo they are bad, but visible.
To remove the arrow, and this is the most dangerous moment, I used a needle, pushed it under the cap along the arrow and, as it were, cut (pierced) these protrusions with the needle, slightly squeezing the cover up with the needle. The main thing here is not to use force. After removing the cover, access to the arrow axis appeared. Pay attention to how thin the isthmus is on the axis of the arrow and you will understand how often this axis was broken! The arrow may have been placed on this thin axis at the factory, but we are not looking for easy ways!
We turn on the soldering iron with a thin tip, WAIT FOR IT WILL BE HEATED and poke at the center of the arrow, touching the tip of the tip to the top of the metal axis. (you can't see her in the photo, but believe me, she is there, see the arrow) IMPORTANT! Remember where the speedometer needle points, you can even put a line in front of it with a pencil to put it in the same position, otherwise the speedometer will screw up! Warming up, slightly pull the arrow up, if the axle has warmed up well enough, the arrow is removed from it without problems. DO NOT TURN OFF THE SOLDERING IRON!
Now unscrew the two black screws and remove the tsyfer blat. Under it, two more screws hold a transparent diffuser, but for us this is already elementary. Not worth mentioning.
So, we got to the very heart of the speedometer, to its stepping motor [SM]. (Feel like a cardiologist!) In my case, the meters did not work due to a crack in the SM soldering. The probable reason is local overheating during installation in Germany in 1991.
the dark annular crack was the cause of intermittent failures. Immediately we solder the other two contacts of the SD, there are three of them, in the photo-A, B, and C; as well as details on the board that can cause suspicion, as a rule, the more massive the part, i.e. the larger the “patch” with solder, the more likely such an attack is. It is better not to solder the microcircuit. For reference: the resistance between A, B and C is 84, 84 and 168 ohms. For some reason it was my intention
Unscrewing two screws, bend the board and see the drive device, this is called a planetary gear.
Here, it happens, the yellow gear breaks, of the silicone type.
They recommend disassembling an old car cassette recorder, there is the same black cassette in the cassette drive, I have not tried it, but they say it fits by the teeth. Someone grinds it himself, if you pick it up with a different number of teeth, the path counter will lie, and it is not a fact that it will be assembled correctly. Green arrows indicate two wheels of track counters, and if one of the counters does not work for you, then you need to look for what prevents it from rotating. By the way, at this stage there is a temptation to twist the mileage. I didn't twist. It happens that one of the reels with numbers shifts, and then this counter stops working. Mr. Jancer would put a resilient plate on the axle with the numbers and everything would hook again.
Well, that's all, then the assembly in the reverse order, screwing in the screws and making the sign of the cross over the panel, insert it into the torpedo. If everything is put together correctly, it should work.

3. Unscrew the 3 screws securing the plastic panel and remove it.
4. Unscrew the 2 screws and take out the scarf.
5. The problem lies in this gear. We remove it to study.
6. We see a large gear from above and a small gear from below. Usually a small one is licked and the counter stops working.
7. I picked up a small gear from a cassette recorder. Removable and installed is elementary.
After replacing the gear, we reassemble and ride.

Here, it happens, a yellow gear breaks, like a silicone one (Hi Pamela Anderson!)

In this you can see, I showed from my own experience how to find the cause of the breakdown of the mileage speedometer, and eliminate them myself.
my video my channel my group in classmates
Vasya is the same trouble. The speedometer works, but there are no kilometers. I see that you took off the arrow easily. Some are heating it with a soldering iron.
Vasya s yakogo magnetophone six
Healthy. I have a desire to do this for a long time. Only I don't have the old cassette player. The fuel gauge does not show correctly - is there such a thing?
Hello Vasily. I would like to ask you if the problem of the inoperative speedometer is treated in this way? It is the speedometer! On my Audi, the kilometer counter broke down and at the same time the speedometer needle does not show the speed, but simply bounces around 0-40 km / h while driving. When replacing this gear, will the speedometer work or is it a different problem?
There is a small gear in some CDs, amber watches, water meters, mechanical dialing of the phone number. And where to get the big one.

Hello Vasya, tell me just bought an 80-ku b-3 87 g and I don't know how the speedometer works from a cable or is it electronic?))))
my mileage does not work, during disassembly they did not find anything spoiled, all the gears are intact, what could be
Vasily hello. I disassembled the speedometer and took off the arrow with a bang, like a kapets rod, how you take it off so easily. I will buy used the whole tidy.
uraaa finally made the odometer as Vasya said. I found a gear in a regular mayfun, a blaupunkt podshamanil and gud earned. Vasily and maybe so the speedometer will lie after that?
Thank you . finally did. )
Vasya my audi 90 my tachometer does not work what to do what could be the reason?
Thank you, Vasily. Your video was very useful
Vasya fellow good advice on the speedometer the size is large!
Greetings. I repaired the odometer according to your video, everything worked out, but only after I collected everything, a problem arose: the speedometer needle does not rise above 90 km / h, and generally behaves strangely, does not show the speed correctly, and then does not go to zero after a complete stop, but it shows 25-30 km / h (and this is in a standing car) tell me what could be the problem? I took it off by scrolling it counterclockwise (you had this advice in the comments, because it was impossible to remove it by simply pulling it up, help with advice on how to restore the speedometer to work.
Selling large and small speedometer gear for Audi 80/90/100 Price per piece: 100 hryvnia I send across Ukraine Number for information: 0934474757
With the arrow of the speedometer, you need to be very careful, mine did not come off, the stock broke off. plus on this silicone gear (small) teeth were cut off. In short, I brought a new socket from Poland, but the speedometer and odometer still do not work, the wires rang, the sensor on the box, all the rules. The electrician moved a magnet around the box, the arrow trembled, says there is a problem in the box. Who will tell you how to repair? and what's in the box to change?
TELL! I have a dashboard with a clock instead of a tachometer. I want to put a tachometer. Will it fit, and what needs to be reconnected in order for the tachometer to work.
If you decide to use the advice from the video, then be prepared to make things even worse. Until the replacement of the tidy (or the speedometer, if you find it separately). When removing, it is necessary not to bend or pull out the axis on which the arrow is attached, plus, in addition to everything, you also need to put the arrow back. In this case, the speedometer often starts to lie or the arrow does not go above / below any mark. I think the author of the video should have warned the others about this.
great, this video helped me a lot!
Do not try to shoot the arrow as shown, because you will definitely break it! The arrow must be unscrewed counterclockwise. After a few turns, it will come off. Install in place by turning clockwise.
Good afternoon, please tell me the size of the big gear and the number of teeth. Is it possible to find her somewhere?
Something else does not work for me. Where to start first? Thanks in advance
Hello! Guys pulled out the arrow of the speedometer along with the axle, what to do.
maybe there is a problem with the cable if it doesn’t twist the numbers?
How to fix a clock on a tidy? My little screen swam. Can this be fixed without buying?
tell me the capacity of condensers / electrolytes / 2pcs
on the odometer, capacitor capacity
salam Vasya I have an audi 80 b4 on the move pulls often. fuel filter changed
Vasily is it possible to adjust the odometer manually without removing the speedometer arrows and how.
hello, is it possible to flush the engine with salary.
Vasily hello, I took it all apart, not a magician to pick up a gear, tell me which tycoon background did you pick
the paste led the panel to its place the tochometer stopped working at speed jumps then the arrow is still lying and the backlight on the speedometer is still out and on the tochometer it is on, tell me the reason
Basil! Good day! Could you specify the dimensions of the gears (outer diameter, inner diameter and number of teeth). In order not to bother, once again, disassembling the shield.
Valera would like to ask how to change the electric speedometer on the dashboard to a michonic speedometer, I also have it for the 3rd year 8ok
Hello, I apologize right away that I am not writing on the topic, I can not adjust the sound in the car in the back doors there are regular speakers from Nokia with useliks and together with them I want to connect pancakes, but the problem is that when I connect pancakes, they do not pull the sound very quietly singing how to be?

What the hell you know, the temperature arrow lies on the floor, the wires are disconnected from the sensor on this tee, it lies on the floor. What is it in the tidy itself? And how to change the light bulbs to the backlight is not very difficult, otherwise it shines very dimly even in the dark. or maybe with tension what? Damn it is necessary to shake up the entire tidy. The odometer sometimes counts, sometimes it does not, the temperature does not work, the light bulbs are shining. )
The Audi 80 speedometer is made electronic-mechanical. There is a special electrical circuit that converts the signal from the Audi 80 speedometer sensor into pulses. When impulses appear, the stepper motor starts to rotate and at the same time turns the wheels of the traveled path.
Since the cars are already quite old, a common problem on them is that the Audi 80 speedometer does not work. A common reason for this is the wear of a small plastic gear. It quickly breaks down if there is insufficient lubrication or if it freezes in winter. By the way, winters in Europe are not as harsh as we have in Siberia. A detailed repair of the Audi 80 speedometer is discussed in the video below.
