Details: DIY grohe thermostat repair from a real master for my.housecope.com.
In the eyes of the layman, a thermostat is a complex and sensitive device that cannot be cleaned without being a seasoned “6th grade plumber”.
Naturally, this is not the case. We decided to photograph and describe the process of disassembling and cleaning the thermostat, which had stood for about 9 months in the Komendantsky Prospect area. Due to the construction of new housing, the water is often turned off, after which something yellow flows from the tap for a long time. And although the thermostat itself worked fine, there could be no dirt inside.
Horizontal mud collectors are standing, that's good:
0. Before work, the water must be shut off!
1. First remove the thermostat knob.
Remove the small end cap, unscrew the screw, and remove the handle and retaining ring. Our thermostat comes with a key:
We use it to unscrew the screw that secures the thermostatic unit from below.
The screw is very small, it is important not to lose it.
Light effort may be required.
3. We clean off plaque with an old toothbrush.
Plain water, no soaking.
4. Carefully insert the block back and screw in the screw.
The hole in the housing must line up with the threaded screw hole. It is advisable to lubricate the rubber rings with plumbing petroleum jelly or a similar grease.
We removed the thermostat from the wall before work, but this is not necessary, it’s just more convenient to take pictures.
Now you need to put the handle so that the water temperature corresponds to the set one.
Each thermostatic unit has factory calibration marks. We combine the mark on the stem with the mark on the body by turning the notched stem. This position corresponds to approximately 38 ° C.

6. Put on the retaining ring so that the mark on the ring is visible when using the thermostat.
The stop inside the handle (when the button is not pressed) should be close to the stop on the ring. This position of the handle corresponds to 38 ° C.
8. Tighten the screw securing the handle and insert the plug.
If in doubt, refer to the thermostat assembly diagram:
Now it is clear that the 6th category is not needed here, the actions are quite simple. Even if you yourself do not dare to clean, you can control the actions of the plumber. Good luck!

Regular use of plumbing equipment both in the kitchen and in the bathroom requires manufacturers to improve the quality and expand the functionality of their products. From a number of offers on the sanitary equipment market, Grohe bathroom faucets stand out, for which repairs are required very rarely, due to the excellent quality and reliability of the units. However, a sufficiently long improper operation and high water hardness can damage these devices. You can repair Grohe faucets yourself at home. However, this is a rather laborious procedure that requires patience and perseverance. Faucets can be repaired with the usual set of tools that are in every home.
Faucets of the Grohe brand can be subject to various types of malfunctions:
Unit leakage
Water flows weakly from the tap
Malfunctions associated with the mixer in the "bath-shower" mode
Poorly secured switch
Repair of a single-lever mixer is slightly different from that of a two-valve device. But the main reasons for malfunctioning of Grohe mixers in these cases can be:
Small debris plugged switch. This is possible if the running water is dirty.
High water hardness
Natural wear and tear of structural parts
Experts strongly recommend using water filters with openings of no more than 100 microns to prevent the ingress of abrasive particles into the mixers.
Depending on the type of malfunction, appropriate manipulations are performed:
Solve cartridge problems
As a rule, small abrasive particles contained in running water get stuck inside the ceramic disc of a single lever instrument. This can lead to a leak in the mixer. To restore the normal functioning of the unit, it is necessary to completely replace the entire valve. How to do it:
Remove the plug from the front of the unit (there are blue and red decorative markings there)
Remove the screw that holds the lever
Remove the unit from the housing
Remove the defective filter (cartridge) and replace it with a new one
Install the lever in its place, following the reverse sequence of actions. This principle will fit almost any mixer model, not just the Grohe brand.
Kitchen faucets are also being repaired in the same way.
Small tap water pressure
Grohe faucets are equipped with the SpeadCleen system. It involves inserting silicone pads into the filter. If the cartridge is clogged with limescale, simply slide your finger over the insert and the water pressure will be restored.
Old faucets include metal mesh. In this case, you need to do the following:
Remove the metal mesh
Rinse thoroughly under running water
Install the part back
Restoring the function of the "bath-shower" mode switch
It happens that water begins to pour immediately from the tap and shower head. In such a situation, experts talk about the wear of the spool gasket. Faucets can be repaired in the following sequence:
Screw on all water levers
Remove the hose from the shower head
Remove adapter and drain
Unscrew the main screw securing the control arm
Remove eccentric
Remove the spool seal from the body, remove the silicone rings. You may need an awl or flathead screwdriver to do this.
Install new rings and moisten them slightly
Put on the spool gasket and restore the structure in the opposite order.
Usually new Grohe faucets come with gaskets. You can repair the faucets by making your own rubber rings. To do this, you need a piece of material at least three to four cm thick. Of course, they are short-lived, but they can help out in an emergency. Faucets can also help out with linen thread or thin copper spacers wrapped around old rings. This will slightly extend the life of the rings. However, after a while, the mixers will still have to be disassembled.
Clean the mixer and / or replace the aerator and cartridge
The noise most often comes from debris and dirt trapped in the mixer. Clean the mixer and / or replace the aerator and cartridge
All GROHE line must be replaced by yourself or at a service center
All GROHE line must be replaced by yourself or at a service center
Check that the hot and cold water connections are correct. With most GROHE thermostats, hot water (DHW) should only be supplied from the left. If the hot water is connected to the right, then make the correct hot water supply or replace the thermocouple for re-connection.
Replace in the service with a rod of the required length
No. All serviceability is eliminated through the inspection window under the button
Replace flush valve seals or complete valve
Replace the membrane of the filling mechanism or the entire mechanism
Also in the service you can get answers to all popular queries, such as:

Something my thermostat stopped thermostating. You stand under the shower, and someone flushes the water in the toilet bowl - and suddenly a stream of hot water flows over you.
... I decided to change the thermoelement. But consultation is required, suddenly someone has already changed. He took off the decorative handle. Beneath it is a black plastic piece that is screwed directly onto the thermocouple. I twisted it. The protruding part of the thermocouple has opened. But its fastening nut is covered with another plastic one, which limits the rotation of the decorative handle. How to shoot it? Just pull? I would not want to break something due to inexperience.
OlegCh, maybe flushing will help
OlegCh wrote: But its fastening nut is covered with another plastic one, which limits the rotation of the decorative handle. How to shoot it? Just pull?
So, I figured it out. The plastic sits on the latch fuser nut. You just have to pull harder. The thermoelement itself has not yet been twisted, put it off until the weekend.
keep us posted, interesting too. Where will you take the thermoelement?
Well, I changed it. (I took it from the Grohe service on Khoroshevskoe highway). But, in my opinion, little has changed. If the shower is working and at the same time you open cold water in the sink, then the temperature of the water in the shower still rises noticeably. Maybe it has always been like this, but I simply did not notice, or, rather, such situations did not arise. In short, it seems that it was wasted only in vain.

Still, colleagues, I wonder how much the thermostat should maintain a constant temperature.Just check who has it installed: turn on the shower to a comfortable temperature, and then open the cold water tap completely next to it, or flush the toilet bowl - does the temperature in the shower change?

I have another thermostat, but I'm also interested in the reference behavior)) with such an input it will be like this: for a moment the water will go hotter (1-2 seconds), then it will normalize to the set value. When the water in the jolt is collected or another tap is closed, on the contrary, the water is colder for a moment, then it normalizes to the set value. Is this the norm, or should the temperature always be constant?
I think it just works right for you, it was like that with me before. And now, for some reason, it does not come to the set value even with a new thermoelement. And the pressure at the entrance to the apartment, the manometers show normal - 4.3-4.7 bar. The coarse filter of the cold water filter could not get so clogged that after it the pressure drops when the cold water tap in the sink is open. And nothing else reasonable comes to mind.
OlegCh wrote: The coarse filter XB could not get so clogged,
why not? need to look
Tul wrote: why not? need to look
Don't get to it. But I regularly flush it with a regular flush (well, that is, I open the valve on it from time to time). And the pressure from the taps in the apartment is normal.

I have Grotherm 2000, it works as well. To be honest, I thought that no differences would be felt at all. But you can see this is fantastic.

I cannot say 100%, but it seems that this has not happened before. either did not pay attention, or the truth was not. And now I notice. Hansgrohe.
As far as I remember, not all Grotherms have “fast” thermostats, so the temperature drop is felt for a couple of seconds.

That's exactly how it works for me. iBox, 22 copper connected. The temperature recovers in about a second.
OlegCh. I do not know how much my post is still relevant, but I have an answer to your OlegCh post. In your case, the filters are clogged. They need to be cleaned. I also recommend in such a situation (I hope it is no longer relevant for you) to clean the check valves that are on the thermostat. My thermostat is made separately “for lining”, there are two check valves for hot and cold water. They need to be unscrewed and cleaned. Dross, as you might guess, will be higher on hot water. The thermocouple fails at Grohe after about 8 years. Who washes less often - 9-10 [
] (). When it fails, the water temperature ceases to be properly regulated. Mixing will be arbitrary. In my case, it was expressed like this: you set the temperature, and hot water comes. You open the tap + shower = more or less you can wash if you unscrew it completely on a cold one. (I can have three outputs working at the same time). I changed the thermocouple myself.Nothing complicated. Now on the same Horoshevka it costs 5600! After replacing and adjusting the temperature, it works like a clock.
There is a Mora mixer in the shower. After 4 years of work, the pressure became very weak. Moreover, in the washbasin, which comes after the shower, the pressure is wonderful. Is it being treated or in the morgue? Who has experience?
Between the eccentric and the union nut, there are most likely protective nets - they can be removed and washed
. If it is not in the meshes, then it is possible inside the calcium deposits. In theory, they can be washed with a hot descaling solution. by connecting a fontanel pump to the mixer inlet and opening the spout to drive the solution (from the bucket through the mixer and back into the bucket). Boiler heat exchangers are flushed this way. I didn’t see the mixer rinsing ... Although I came across a case when a dude put the whole mixer in a bucket with decalcifier. He speaks normally, but he turned black all over .
By the way, maybe it's not the mixer? And in a watering can or a hose? Personally, after replacing the mixer with a new head, it almost did not change, but replacing the hose and watering can became an order of magnitude better

I took your advice, I also have Oras worth it.
The only small question arose, on point 4, namely on the moment
Are you just cleaning it on the outside? Or can it be disassembled and cleaned from the inside?
Why am I asking, I washed it outside, even rubbed it with a toothbrush, not much, it seems to me cleaner.

The first attempts to make something out of the brought slabs. Although there may be attempts, the material costs money and the margin for error is as much as there is money in your pocket. Train at your own expense, as they say.
Therefore, each board is carefully examined and measured, the proverb about seven times measure in action.
The work itself is not tricky, creative, there are several boards and you need to pick them up so that it looks beautiful and there is no overrun. All adjustments to the size and trimming are done with the minimum possible removal of material, just sawed off a bit here, cut a little there with a chisel.

So I lived to see my workshop, which needs to be equipped and supplemented with various instruments for a long time and persistently.
But the main thing is there is a warm room, although not your own, there is where to work until they are kicked out.
This warehouse is quite spacious, if you remove everything you don't need, so you have to do a lot to get to work at least somehow. And the first thing I did was take out too much and started assembling a large desktop.

Filling the slab with epoxy resin. First pouring resin onto the slab.
It is necessary to put the slabs on a flat base, for me it is a chipboard sheet, while the base sheet itself should lie strictly horizontally.

Departure of the master in Moscow - free of charge.
Most people, using the water supply in the bathroom or in the kitchen, have to regularly adjust the temperature of the water every time they open the tap. This is especially not very pleasant when taking a shower. A mixer with a thermostat can help out in such a situation, it will help you forget about this problem once and for all.
High-quality installation of the mixer with shower with thermostat (grohe, damixa).
- The ability to completely mask all the details of the liner in the space under the sink or behind the bath. - Having more free space when arranging a bathroom. - It is not necessary to take into account the location of the pipes, since the connection is made with flexible hoses.
A faucet with a thermostat will make it possible to adjust the required temperature of the water from the shower head once, and all you have to do is regulate only the pressure. Installation or repair of a mixer with a shower with a thermostat (grohe, damixa) by our specialists will avoid problems with setting the water temperature. This mixer looks outwardly the same as a conventional one, but it has an additional element on the outside, a valve or two, a sensor, a lever, a valve and a thermostat.
Qualified employees - The staff of the company's specialists is a team of universal masters - And narrow specialists of various profiles High quality - We are interested in regular customers, so we do everything - To make you like our services
Another obligatory detail is a blocker, since installing a mixer with a thermostat without a blocker will not provide the necessary properties, for example, with a sharp drop in pressure, the flow of hot or cold water will be continuous, the risk of getting severely burned, or falling under a stream of ice water, increases. If the pressure of the ode begins to fluctuate, the thermostat will optimally vary the pressure of the final flow. Faucets with thermostats are of different types: for the bathroom, for the kitchen, for the sanitary facilities and for the public washrooms.
Repair of a mixer with a shower with a thermostat (grohe, damixa).
1. The remaining water must be drained by opening the valves or the mixer lever as far as it will go. 2. If you have a countertop sink, you will need to remove it. However, this should be done only after disassembling the lower part of the siphon. 3. Using an adjustable wrench, carefully disconnect the flexible hoses adjacent to the water pipe. Water can flow out of them, so consider this in advance. The water will need to be drained, and then proceed to study the condition of the hoses. This is a very important process, because they can fail much earlier than the mixer itself. If the hoses are in good condition, they can be left and used with a new device. 4. After disengaging the threaded rod, carefully support the mixer with your hand, otherwise it may fall. 5. The hoses must have good quality gaskets without any signs of damage or defects. At this stage, the process of removing the old plumbing equipment can be considered complete.
They also differ in the type of execution: they are built-in, wall-mounted, for showers, sinks and bathtubs. Typically, copper, brass, steel and bronze are used as materials. The style of execution corresponds to the main model range and the collection of mixer manufacturers. Do not forget that installation, repair and installation of mixers with thermostats should be carried out exclusively by professionals with extensive experience and professional tools.

The daily use of plumbing fixtures, whether in the bathroom or in the kitchen, obliges manufacturers to pay more and more attention to ensuring their appliances are as functional and reliable as possible. According to these parameters, devices from the Groe company have always stood out from the total number of units. However, unsatisfactory operating conditions can damage these devices too.
Though faucets Grohe reviews have more than positive, sometimes you still have to deal with their repair, and independently. In this article, we will use the experience of people who are faced with the problem of repairing such devices, as well as tips that will help prevent mistakes when "reanimating" your plumbing.
Depending on the design and purpose of the unit breakdowns, respectively, meet of a different nature... Mainly:
various types of leaks;
insufficient water pressure;
malfunctions when switching the water pressure in the "bath-shower" modes;
malfunction of the "shower-bath" switch button (poor fixation).
The principle of action when restoring the operability of a single-lever system is somewhat different from eliminating a breakdown of a two-valve valve. but causes of malfunction in both cases, such factors can become:
hitting all kinds of abrasive particles with water;
increased water hardness;
mechanical wear of structural components.
German experts from the Groe company strongly advise using it in the water supply system in order to extend the service life of plumbing mesh filter with cells no more than 100 microns... This nominal measure will prevent sand or other abrasive elements from entering the structure.
Small particles that get stuck between the ceramic cartridge discs of the single lever unit, causing leaks. This issue is being resolved by replacing the entire shutter, for which it is necessary:
dismantle the plug on the front side of the lever (there are markings on it - blue and red);
unscrew the screw that fixes the lever with a hexagon;
before doing DIY repair of this type of Grohe mixer remove the lever from the body;
remove the damaged cartridge and install a new one;
reassemble the unit in reverse order.
The described procedure is suitable for almost any medium static mixer for the kitchen or for the bathroom.
Modern models under the Groe brand are supplied with with the SpeedClean system... Its meaning consists in the introduction of silicone inserts into the nozzle. If lime deposits appear that prevent the free passage of water, it is enough to run your finger along the soft inserts and the pressure will be restored.
Owners of earlier models, on which the aerator is made on the basis of a metal mesh, must solve the problem a little differently:
unscrew the aerator;
rinse and blow the mesh in the direction opposite to the movement of water;
install the aerator in place.
It happens that users are faced with such a situation when water enters both the shower head and the spout at the same time. Spool gasket worn out, which is located in the switch - this is the main reason for such a breakdown. This conclusion is confirmed by the reviews of the masters who repaired Grohe faucets at home.
Performed replacement procedure in the following way:
turn off the water supply valves;
disconnect the shower head hose;
dismantle the spout and adapter;
unscrew the screw fixing the control lever;
remove the eccentric from the mixer;
remove the spool from the valve body and remove the rubber rings (use an awl or a narrow screwdriver);
put on new rings and moisten them with water;
refit the spool and reassemble the unit upside-down.
The Groe tap must be supplied with a set of gaskets. It is additionally recommended to clean the seat of the diverter (switch).
Sensor assemblies are characterized by increased durability, because they do not have elements subject to mechanical stress. The service life of such a device reaches 15 years. However, there are components here that can fail.
Most often subject to repair sensorsresponsible for supplying and adjusting the water pressure when hands approach. To carry out DIY repair of such a malfunction of the Grohe mixer Not sure it's going to happen. Better to consult a specialist.
Here is the opinion of the owner of the sensor unit regarding the restoration work:
“Working with such a crane is comfortable, but repairs are expensive. When the sensor was changed, in addition, I had to wait a long time - it was not available. "
Reducing the throughput of the aerator eliminated in the same way as described above, since their designs are almost the same.
Replace the lithium battery approximately every two years on models using a lithium battery. As you can see, Groe's contactless systems are made in such a way that their owners are not familiar with major problems. This is well illustrated by one consumer saying:
“Replacing the battery and even the sensor could not convince me of the reliability of the Grohe brand. Yes, it's expensive, but you have to pay for comfort, and here not only comfort, but also the functionality at the highest level. "
