Do-it-yourself thermostat repair Peugeot 307

In detail: do-it-yourself Peugeot 307 thermostat repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Sooner or later, breakdowns occur in the cooling system of the Peugeot 307. The most common, and not only for Peugeot, but also for other cars, is the thermostat. Many motorists are wondering how to change this product with their own hands so as not to overpay at a car service.

The video about replacing the thermostat is below:

The video will tell you how to replace the thermostat, and also tell about some of the nuances and difficulties of the process.

Comparison of the old and new thermostat.

Before proceeding directly to the process itself, you need to understand that replacing the thermostat on the Peugeot 307 is not so easy as it seems at first glance.

Unlike the Soviet car industry in a French car, it was not so easy to carry out an elementary operation. So, consider the sequence of actions:

    We take the container and drain all the coolant. It is worth paying attention to the quality of antifreeze (antifreeze). If it has a cloudy color, it is recommended to replace it.

We drain the liquid from the cooling system

Air vent location

Fitting where you want to insert the tube

We remove the air filter to get to the thermostat.

We remove the upper radiator pipe to make it easier to get to the thermostat

4 bolts are marked with arrows

The choice of product should be approached carefully.

As the French say: “Everything that we have done is a high-quality product,” but as practice shows, this is not always the case. Of course, manufacturers are partly to blame for allowing fakes to enter the market, but this is not always the case, sometimes it also happens - a factory defect.

1336.Z0 - original catalog number of the Peugeot 307 thermostat. The applicability of this device is quite wide. This thermostat is fitted to a range of Citroën and Peugeot vehicles. The average cost of a spare part is 3000 rubles.

TH41291G1 is not an original thermostat.

In addition to the original part, in the domestic automotive market you can find a fairly large number of analogs from different manufacturers, at different prices.

The main difference from the original is the thickness of the spacer. It is thicker on the original part!

Replacing the cooling system thermostat with a Peugeot 307, as it turned out, is not so easy. It's under the air filter and you have to sweat a little to get to it. Of course, there is nothing difficult to dismantle the air filter and pipe.

It should be understood that the thermostat on the Peugeot 307 is recommended to be changed along with the case, since the part is plastic and wear can develop along it, which will lead to a leak.

The choice of a spare part should be approached carefully, so many owners of this car recommend installing an original part.

The thermostat is, perhaps, one of the necessary devices and malfunctions of such units are completely unacceptable, thermostats are present in all cars whose engines are cooled using a special fluid. And in case of its failure, overheating of the power unit may simply occur.
Image - DIY thermostat repair Peugeot 307

Experts strongly recommend replacing it every 2-4 years. But sometimes replacing the thermostat is simply necessary much earlier (how to define this is discussed later).

The most important task of the thermostat is to prevent antifreeze from getting inside the radiator until the engine has completely warmed up. While the thermostat is itself in a closed state, the movement of the coolant occurs in a small circle, which ensures a gradual warming up of the power unit.

Thanks to this, it is possible to achieve such indicators as: reducing the toxicity of vehicle exhaust gases and extending the life of the engine. After the final heating of the engine to a temperature of 95 degrees, the thermostat opens, and the flow of hot liquid begins to enter the radiator.

Now it is clear for what purposes a thermostat on a vehicle is needed and why it is impossible to do without it. When the primary signs of its breakdown appear, it needs immediate replacement. How is the thermostat faulty determined? To do this, you can use the so-called "popular" methods of verification.

To do this, you need to open the hood of the car with a hot power unit and the car turned off. Then, very carefully, so as not to get burned, touch the lower hose, and then the upper hose attached to the radiator (these are black rubber hoses, which have a diameter of up to 5 cm, with metal clamps at the ends). If they are hot, then everything is normal.

If one hose is cold, it most likely means that the thermostat is closed, which is preventing coolant from entering the radiator. In this case, an urgent replacement of this device is required.

Another symptom of faulty thermostats is that the vehicle takes too long to warm up. If the car is in a "traffic jam", its operating temperature will be normal. When the car is moving at high speed, the engine starts to overheat.

The price of a thermostat is usually determined by the make of your vehicle manufacturer. For Russian models, its cost is about five hundred rubles, for foreign cars it corresponds to several thousand rubles.

We found out for what purposes a thermostat for cars is needed, and also studied ways to test it for operability. Now, having received this knowledge, you can avoid the need for expensive repairs. It is best to change this device on time or every two years, or when the very first signs of its breakdown appear.

Hello. I have a Peugeot 307 car
Please tell me, I have a problem of this nature, the car does not heat up well, it warms up best when it stands still, and when the car in motion the temperature arrow drops, do I understand correctly that I have a faulty thermostat and it's time to change it?

Yes, you are right, most likely you have a faulty thermostat, but in order to fully make sure of this, you should check again, for this you need to open the hood and start the engine, then as it warms up, you need to check the hoses that go to the cooling radiator, when the engine warms up, they should remain cold, if they immediately begin to heat up, then the thermostat is faulty and it should be replaced, I can replace it with a Peugeot 307 on my own, it is not difficult to change it there, just do not forget to change the thermostat gasket. Good luck with the renovation.

I have a Peugeot 3008, 2010. 1.6. winter morning started up without problems. after two hours I start the car and after 30 seconds it stalls and so several times it’s all right not to start ... and only after 40-50 minutes to start without any problems ...

It is not entirely clear whether this is a question or not, but if the question is somehow not entirely on the topic, the thermostat malfunction is described here, clearly not your problem))

Hello. I have a Peugeot 307 2.0 hdi 110. The coolant arrow on the dashboard constantly jumps from zero to 90, depending on the warm engine. The car warms up normally. The question is more like a jammed thermostat or is it still the coolant sensor dying?! thanks for the answer…

The thermostat has nothing to do with it, it's a malfunction of the temperature sensor

Analogue to this part: manufacturer- "Wahler" (part N 410705.89D ), there are no reviews on the work yet.
What the original looks like - see below

Used on Citroen: BERLINGO, C2, C3, C4, XSARA PICASSO / Peugeot: 1007,206,207,307,307 new, 308, Partner

I found useful info on C4 on how to fix the thermostat myself.

... well, in general, I fixed this crap, checked it, everything works.

I will describe the repair procedure - maybe someone will come in handy.
Repair cost: 2 rubles. for an elastic band + superglue 14 p. = 16 rubles.
Well, we start by removing the battery, unscrewing and removing the air filter ..
I didn’t take a photo, I think there’s nothing complicated there, and it’s probably already been described more than once ..
We drain the antifreeze;
Image - DIY thermostat repair Peugeot 307

I drained (or sucked) it with a large syringe and a hose lowered through the expansion tank further down the hose in several stages.
Image - DIY thermostat repair Peugeot 307
further, there is very little antifreeze left, 200 grams, I poured it into a small jar through the lower radiator hose.
We unscrew and remove everything that prevents us from getting to the thermostat, remove the thermostat. Of course, if there is special tool for car service, then there are fewer problems. Now, the actual procedure for disassembling and repairing the temostat. In a car shop, I looked at what could suit me instead of a collapsed rubber band, it turned out to be a boot from the brake cylinders of the classics, it has the number 2101-1602550;

why him? Well, firstly, it stretched over the thermostat just fine, the thickness of the rubber is about the same as the one that was previously on the thermostat, well, the quality of rubber itself is more suitable for high temperatures. it stands on the brake cylinders, and the temperature from the pads and the drum during braking is much higher than the temperature of the engine coolant.

Just in case, I boiled this anther a little in boiling water, then took it out and pulled it, as if to check what kind of rubber it was.

It practically did not change, neither softer nor harder, i.e. what we need.
Go ahead ... pull it over the thermostat

insert the spring (inside the gum there is a groove in a circle, so it clings to the whole thing);

and for every fireman, I filled it in a circle with superglue;

then we collect everything in place;

after all this, I decided to try how it all works. I do not have a thermometer up to 100 *, but I have a tester with a thermocouple, and I measured the temperature with it;
Image - DIY thermostat repair Peugeot 307
brought the temperature to 95 * C, the thermostat began to move about 92 * C, it may be difficult to keep track of it before, which is what we need. At 95 * it has already opened perceptibly;

as it cooled down, it closed;
When I closed it, I tried to blow from the side of the branch pipe - it keeps it tight ... ZASHIBIS.

Well, that's like all the guys, tomorrow I'm going to put it.
Here's another. when you disassemble the thermostat, remember how it stood in the case, its stem goes slightly to the side relative to the thermostat case (ON THE 6TH PHOTO IS A LITTLE VISIBLE), the number 91 is engraved on the thermostat's “ass” (a number is visible on the photo of the assembled thermostat), remember as it was, put it +/- 2 mm. not critical.

P.S. Maybe someone will come in handy, who loves to repair himself or herself ... there are such)))
This repair is suitable for the entire PSA family where the same device is installed ..
That's all. pokedovo ..

We connect the thick pipe back, take a 100 ″ C thermometer, go home, secretly from the wife, take her favorite pot, pour water, lower the thermostat and thermometer, put it on fire. When the temperature reaches 78 ″ C, the thermostat opens, you check its opening by sitting next to the pan, looking at the thermometer and constantly blowing your mouth into a large pipe. The wife, feeling that something is wrong in the kitchen catches you behind this business. Looking at her stunned eyes, you understand what she thinks: pinned herself from the garage, sits next to a boiling pan and blows into a rubber tube that goes into boiling water. All your explanations are useless here: there is an open door in the madhouse!

The thermostat does not use a bimetallic stem, but a mixture of something like paraffin and additives, this mixture expands and squeezes the stem.
A week ago I changed the thermostat, the rubber band on the valve does not break, it closes tightly. With a cold start, it heats up to three divisions (shiroen) and after half a minute drops to two.On a car in motion, it does not heat up to normal, On a standing rate.
Changing the thermostat helped.

It is unclear what caused the leak from the author's thermostat. But 11 degrees is a bit too much between nominal and actual. It was worth checking the closing temperature

I did not warm up, and while driving, the temperature dropped, a rubber band flew on the thermostat and drove antifreeze in a large circle.

The previous owner put the thermostat 105C, for what purpose it is not clear, according to the service boxing it should be 89C.

I put the usual one from the "exist" 89C for 370r, it seems, without a sensor.

Error P0597 flew out, without a check, but a 10 ohm resistor cleared the error.

But it is better to put 12 ohms, because the sensor gives just that much at room temperature.

So what was the reason, if not the thermo? my sutra heats up for a long time. It’s also not interesting, but there is winter ahead (((but the thermostat opens and everything works.

The same garbage, I will change the thermostat, mileage 165, so I think there will be no superfluous replacement.

When the temperature reaches 78 ″ C, the thermostat opens, you check its opening by sitting next to the pan, looking at the thermometer and constantly blowing your mouth into a large pipe.

started to open or opened completely? - these are two big differences as they say in Odessa.

Eh Thermostat Thermostatovich Thermostats. Good day to all motorists. Today, as you may have guessed, we will talk about the thermostat, or rather why the engine does not warm up to operating temperature. The answer to this question is very simple: the thermostat does not close completely or the opening temperature is lower than it should be. 'The whole thing started about a month ago, I began to notice that the temperature of the internal combustion engine in the city is 90 as expected, but on the highway it drops to

80 degrees, which I did not like and I decided to replace the thermostat as soon as possible. By and large, there is almost nothing to break in the thermostat and it fails as a rule after working out its resource, and this is 5-6 years for a minute when using a normal coolant recommended by the manufacturer or the corresponding specification. Of course, the thermostat can also be covered due to a manufacturing defect or the use of low-quality coolant (for example, water from the Mediterranean Sea, by the way, this is not a joke, I actually saw someone pouring into their car). For one thing, I decided to change the coolant and switch from G11 to G13 because I am a big fan of the principle of “fire, forget”, well, in this case, it’s “Change, forget”. Photo of New OZH

The thermostat was purchased yesterday for $ 38.66 American rubles, everything goes as it should be in a new case with a coolant temperature sensor and a rubber gasket (which I will still put on a sealant because I am a lazy person: I do not like to climb a second time), the opening temperature of 89 degrees is written on the thermostat itself ...

To replace the thermostat, we need: "Head" ratchet or open-end wrench for 10 Screwdriver to loosen the clamps Pliers if the clamps are still native New clamps if you need pliers Silicone Victor Rainz Narrow spatula to make it easier to work Gasoline for degreasing the surface Small container for cleaning and storing bolts Copper brush for cleaning bolts Thread retainer Sump for draining the old coolant Silicone tube Since the coolant does not change its viscosity when the temperature changes, drain the coolant, you can remove the old thermostat and put a new one on a cold engine, since I need to drive about 1.5 km to the place of this event does not shine (Sadness) and you will have to work on a hot engine and that is why it is good to have a rubber glove on hand so as not to burn yourself. I bought 3 liters. Antifreeze MaxLife ™ Coolant AF Concentrate (G13) for $ 21.87 diluted it 1: 2 (one part of antifreeze to 2 parts of water) so as not to freeze at -20 in our climate with your head!

My insidious plan for replacing the antifreeze and thermostat is as follows: First, we drain the G11 antifreeze from the system and for this we will use a silicone tube and a pan or basin.Remove the plug from the air outlet and attach a silicone tube to it

The other end of the tube goes into a plastic bottle or pallet

We open the expansion barrel. Start the car. We begin to add water to the expansion barrel. Until clean water comes out of the silicone tube. After all the antifreeze is drained, we proceed to replace the thermostat. The car is on the handbrake and in the parking lot Remove the terminal from the battery (We work with water that still conducts electricity) Remove the air filter cover Unscrew the 2 bolts that hold the air filter bracket

Unscrew the screw securing the wiring harness and the lower radiator hose (Torx T30)

Removing the clamp from the front hose (Upper radiator) I used a tool called Jobka, it is very convenient for them to work.

We unscrew the 4 screws for 10 fasteners of the thermostat, raise the thermostat and remove the hose going to the stove. The thermostat which stood was manufactured in France by Mann. And it had an opening temperature of 91 degrees, which is more than the required 89 degrees.

The new thermostat has a required opening temperature of 89 degrees

The first step is to pull out the temperature sensor and the rubber gasket. Lubricate the seat of the rubber gasket with grease and put on the gasket on the sensor. if necessary (pah, pah, pah over the left shoulder) it was more convenient for us to remove the fastening chip.

We clean the seat from the remains of silicone and other things that we do not need, it is very important to put paper or a rag in the opening of the cooling jacket so that the cleaned-off debris does not get into our cooling jacket and clog such small channels!

Do not use a coarse emery cloth with its “help” you can change the flatness of the seat and then you are guaranteed coolant leakage. I used a narrow trowel and # 400 sanding paper.

I hope that my essay on the work done was of interest to you! If so, then I did it for a reason, and if it helps someone to change the thermostat at home, then I'm just happy !! Good luck on the road and, as always, if you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them!

Hello! Can you please tell me how to change the thermostat? Peugeout 307 car. (Larissa)

Good afternoon, Larissa. Replacing the thermostat is not an easy process, are you sure you can do it yourself?

  1. First, you must drain all the coolant from the system. Open the hood and find the air outlet plug, remove it. Install a silicone tube on the hole, which must be prepared in advance. Take the other end of this tube into a bucket or bottle, where you will collect the "working off".
  2. After that, open the antifreeze expansion tank and start the engine. Pour distilled water into the filler hole of the tank until clear liquid comes out of the silicone tube you installed.
  3. When the refrigerant has been drained, you can start replacing the thermostat. Place the vehicle on the parking brake and disconnect the battery terminal. Next, you need to dismantle the plastic casing of the air filter, remove the two screws that secure the bracket.
  4. Then unscrew the bolt with which the block of wires and the radiator pipe are attached.Image - DIY thermostat repair Peugeot 307
  5. Then remove the clamp from the upper radiator pipe.
  6. Thus, you only managed to get to the thermostat. You need to unscrew the four screws that hold it, lift the device itself, and then remove the pipe that goes to the stove.
  7. Then you need to dismantle the regulator and remove the rubber seal. The seat for the gasket should be lubricated with oil or grease, then put it on the regulator. The outer part of the gum should also be oiled so that it can be easily fitted into the body of the device to be replaced.The refrigerant temperature regulator is installed with a latch up so that it can be removed without problems if necessary.
  8. After that, the installation site is cleaned of old silicone and dirt, while it is recommended to cover the opening of the jacket with something so that debris does not enter the system. Otherwise, it can clog small channels in it. For cleaning, you can use sandpaper, preferably with a small grain, otherwise you can comb off part of the seat. If necessary, clean the screws that secure the device you are replacing. To put the hose on it without any problems, lubricate it with oil or grease. All further assembly is carried out in reverse order, do not forget to lubricate the seat with silicone.

Using a Citroen car as an example, check out the device replacement process (video by Oleg Zuyeff).

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery (refer to Section CAN digital data bus).
2. Drain the cooling system (refer to Chapter Ongoing maintenance). If you are not going to add new fluid to the system, save the drained fluid for future use.
3. Remove the thermostat. Note the location of the bleed valve and the orientation of the thermostat itself.

1. If the thermostat is open at room temperature, it is faulty and must be replaced.
2. For a rough check of the thermostat's performance, hang it on a piece of twine in a container with water. The thermostat must not touch the walls of the container. Start heating the container.
3. As the water heats up, the thermostat should open (this happens just before the water boils). Since the boiling point of water is 100 ° C, the thermostat may not open completely (refer to Specifications). Remove the thermostat and let it cool down. As it cools, it should close completely.
4. If the thermostat does not open when heated or does not close when cooled, replace it.
5. When installing the thermostat, keep the following in mind:

a) Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces and replace the O-ring.
b) Place the thermostat in the housing in the correct orientation.
c) Tighten the cover bolts with the required torque.
d) Install all hoses to their original places, then fill in coolant (refer to Chapter Ongoing maintenance).
e) Start the engine, warm up to operating temperature and check for leaks.

Hello everyone . I'll tell you how I changed the thermostat on my Pezhon.
Background: we have a floating temperature. Now up and down, we also have a hot top pipe, which indicates that the thermostat is not working. So. A GATES TH41291G1 thermostat was purchased for 91 gr. assembled with a temperature sensor. I must say right away that to my surprise after installation, when I started checking the new thermostat, it never went beyond the 90 gr division. on the dashboard, and opened at 89 gr. as on the original. Although the thermostat itself is marked 91g.

2. Remove the air filter housing and see our thermostat not working;

3. In order to drain the antifreeze from the system and not spill most of it on the floor, I took a fuel hose from the classic about 40cm. Then he slowly unscrewed the blue pimp to release air from the cooling system (it is located on the thermostat) and after unscrewing it quickly put on this hose, the second end was lowered into a 5 liter bottle from under the water, and it, in turn, was suspended by the handle on the bracket on which the air filter "sump" housing is held.

4. My next action may cause laughter, but it turned out to be effective. In order to drive the antifreeze out of the block and not spill it, as I said above, I leaned my mouth against the expansion barrel and began to blow into it. After several tricks, hearing a hiss from the hose that was hooked up to the thermostat, I calmed down and went to smoke. As a result, after a short purge, 1.5-2.0 liters escaped from the system. antifreeze.Next, we disconnect the tube and remove the bottle with the escaped antifreeze so as not to interfere with further work.

5. We unscrew the fastening of the wires from the thermostat body, then remove the stupid French clamp and pull off the pipe that goes to the radiator. After the pipe has been removed, not a lot of antifreeze will run away.

6. The second branch pipe, which is located below, I unscrewed last after unscrewing the thermostat itself. It is held in place by 4 bolts. It was not difficult to unscrew his labor. After that, he removed the lower pipe in the same torment with a French clamp.

7. We take out the dismantled thermostat, inspect it and go for a smoke break.

8. I will not colorfully describe the subsequent steps for installing a new thermostat, everything is done in the reverse order. For reliability, I smeared the attachment points of the branch pipes on the thermostat with sealant. and screwing the thermostat and fixing the pipes filled in antifreeze. I bought 1 l of antifreeze + I had somewhere 0.5 l, in the end I topped up 400 grams from the started canister, about 100 grams remained. I didn't even open a new one, now I carry it in the trunk in reserve.

9. I did not immediately put the air filter in place to check everything that I did for antifreeze leakage, I put only the battery. He started the car and started to warm it up with gas. As it warmed up, I unscrewed the cap on the thermostat to bleed air of which not much came out.

10. When the temperature reaches about 89 gr. the thermostat opened, although there was a 91g mark on the case. Having driven a little, I blew off the remaining air, tightened the pimp tightly, checked the level in the expansion barrel, muffled the car, set the air in place.

This completes the replacement of the thermostat. Good luck to everyone on the road.

p.s. why the pancake on the dorestayle was a normal thermostat in which you can replace the thermostat valve itself for 300 rubles, and on the restayle they did not put a collapsible one for 900 (non-original). Damn freaks French.

If you have any comments, please correct, I do not have a photo. There was no camera at hand and there was no camera on the phone, so I apologize, if anyone has a photo, add it will be clearer.
