DIY tefal toaster repair

In detail: DIY tefal toaster repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

The design of this unit is simple and reliable, however, there are problems with it when you need to disassemble the toaster and find a malfunction. Let's take the simplest model from "Bosch" as a typical example of a device and standard breakdowns.

The toaster is mounted in a metal or plastic case, where the heating coils and a movable basket with a spring for pushing out the finished toast are fixed. Outside taken out:

  • receiving holes for inserting slices of bread;
  • a lever that lowers the basket with breads inside and starts heating;
  • breaker with the inscription Stop for forced opening of the circuit in an emergency.

In addition to the listed structural elements, the following details are provided inside:

  • a locking device in the form of a metal bar that fixes the basket in the lower position;
  • an electric magnet that holds the bar during the cooking period;
  • plastic wedge for closing contacts after lowering the basket.

The device is electric, therefore the required elements are a power supply unit with a power cord and a timer setting regulator.

Before starting the work cycle, the cooking time must be set. Then we proceed as follows:

  1. Press the drive lever with your hand, which lowers the bread basket to the lower position.
  2. The plastic wedge goes down and closes the contacts.
  3. In parallel, the heating element turns on and the electromagnet starts to work.
  4. The latter locks the basket at the bottom.
  5. The timer starts.

The bread is fried until the timer opens the circuit. After that, the basket is released and, under the action of a spring, pushes out the prepared toast.

To repair the toaster yourself, with your own hands, you should have at hand:

  • a screwdriver for a cross and its slotted counterpart for disassembly and subsequent installation of the case, internal structural parts;
  • pliers, which will be needed for the same purposes;
  • tweezers to remove the spring and hold the fasteners;
  • a multimeter, which is required to diagnose the condition of an electrician.

You cannot do without a clean cloth and a brush with a medium-hard nap. They will be required to clean the internal cavity from crumbs, dust, and other debris.

It is advisable to start the repair by reading the instructions. Before disassembling the device, be sure to disconnect it from the network.

The dismantling sequence will be as follows:

  1. Open the crumb tray and remove the accumulated debris.
  2. Remove the decorative handle from the lever.
  3. Unscrew the fastening screws at the bottom of the device.
  4. Release the catches on the pallet and remove it.
  5. Remove the walls of the plastic case.
  6. Press off the fastening tabs of the metal cover that covers the heating element.
  7. Remove the spiral wound plate.

After dismantling, we proceed to search for a specific malfunction that will have to be repaired.

There can be many options for breakdowns, everything is difficult to foresee and describe. But there are a number of typical malfunctions, knowledge of which will help to quickly repair the device.

If the lever of the toaster does not lock, before repairing, you need to consistently check the probable causes of damage from simple to complex:

  1. Clogged due to inadequate cleaning of the tray. It is enough to open the pallet and free the inner cavity from debris.
  2. Incorrect setting of the temperature controller, as a result, the electromagnet does not receive the necessary power and does not hold the lock. It is necessary to set the knob to medium heating mode and press the lever again.
  3. There is no network connection.If the device is plugged into an outlet, the possible causes of the malfunction are related to the lack of contact in the plug or damage to the wire. Another reason could be a defective fuse.

In the latter case, the device can be repaired by replacing the failed element.

Heating does not start, although the lever is locked in the down position. The simplest reason for the lack of power is due to a faulty plug or wire. More hassle will require oxidation or burning of the contacts. In this case, you will need:

  • dismantling the case,
  • cleaning contacts,
  • checking them for closure.

If the fixture still won't start, the problem may be hidden in the circuit. You will need to check all connections and solder at the break.

When a wire element is used in the construction, the reason is most likely a breakage. Complete disassembly will be required to access the coil and its visual inspection. A bandage is applied to the breakage site, assembly is performed and the operability is checked. If it was not possible to visually detect a break, use a multimeter.

The repair method depends on the type of regulator. The mechanical version often fails due to clogging with crumbs. It is enough to remove them and check the performance of the device.... In case of deformation or breakage of the bimetallic plate, which opens the contacts, you will need the help of a specialist.

The electronic regulator is more difficult to repair - at least you need to be able to read the circuit. If there is no such skill, it is better not to waste your time and go to the workshop.

The simplest reason for undercooked or overcooked toast can be the wrong temperature setting. To eliminate it, it is enough to check the correctness of the settings. More attention will require:

  • deformation of the basket or guides, which will need to be straightened after disassembling the device;
  • failure in the timer, it is necessary to check the board and repair it;
  • clogging of the mechanism, you need to clean the device from crumbs and debris.

A variant of the defect can be the closure of the spiral, it will need to be eliminated or the heating element replaced.
