PROLOGUE

STELS NAVIGATOR 370 acquired in 2007. Operated from May to November in any weather, mainly on dirt and gravel roads. I did not carry out any scheduled maintenance, I went to the breakdown. During the season I covered 1000-1200 km. Now the mileage is about 6,000 km.
This is my first multi-speed bike, before it there were “Pioneer”, “Minsk”, “Salut”. All doubts about the gearshift system were immediately eliminated, a useful and completely reliable thing. It took a long time to get used to manual control of the brakes. I drew attention to the quality of the metal fasteners: on my previous bicycles, the threads were torn off and licked constantly. I was especially pleased with the connecting rods - another shortcoming of the previous bicycles has been fixed. The rest is a regular bike.

The detachment did not notice the loss of the fighter

During operation, the saddle was the first to break. The first malfunction, and before that there was an absurd and annoying loss! Stunned by the happiness of owning a new high-speed bike with an aluminum frame (!), I did not notice how I lost the pump, which jumped out of the standard mount on an uneven road. I still cannot find a worthy replacement for him. True, I also did not have time to evaluate its performance. So the saddle. The steel wire of the base burst at the point of attachment to the pin. NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND RUSSIAN REALITIES

The plastic fenders failed after the branch hit the wheel. It happened on a forest path. The wing was crumpled and bent, the plastic parts of the fasteners burst. I fixed it by wrapping it with duct tape. I gave the deformed wing a shape close to the original one. A similar nuisance was repeated several times later. And yet, I don’t know why, but while riding my old bicycles, I did not notice such a phenomenon. This is what it is about. On a damp muddy road, mud, sticking to the tire, drifted under the wing, where, accumulating, the wheel jammed. I had to stop and roll the bike in the opposite direction, thus freeing the wheel. There is little pleasant in this procedure. Why this happened (because of the material or pattern of the tires, because of the plastic fenders, maybe the clay in my path was especially sticky) is difficult to say. I think it's wings after all. Of course, plastic fenders are lighter and do not rust, but such operating experience nullifies all their advantages.

ABOUT CLEAN HANDS AND A HOT HEART

I don’t know what material the handlebars (grips) are made of, but very soon they became sticky and nasty. Cleaning, wiping, washing did not give any positive results. The solution to the problem was found in the purchase of an accessory unknown to me before - bicycle gloves. I liked the purchase and began to use gloves constantly. True, I began to notice that my friends began to look with apprehension and suspicion at the contrasting combination of my white hands and tanned hands. And the material of the grips is probably really unusable, since the handles began to gradually slide off the steering wheel.

The brakes as a whole performed their function properly. There were usually enough pads for the season. There is a comment on the lever position adjustment system. Very small countersunk screws sour in the thread and it is very difficult to remove them from their place without twisting the slot. The problem was solved by replacing it with regular screws.

And I was not greedy. I loaded no more than five kilograms into the basket, as recommended by the manufacturer. Well, or a little more.One fine day, the bottom and the basket began a separate life. It did not happen suddenly, and it does credit to both the designer and the manufacturer. You must admit that it is much more pleasant to hear a creak or feel a backlash in an ending node than to suddenly crumble on the road. In my opinion, the structure of the basket is rather decorative. A very thin mesh and a thick layer of paint, on which, in my opinion, this mesh was attached to the frame. However, one cannot do without a basket, and another one of the same was purchased. I began to use it more accurately and less often.

The next malfunction manifested itself in the constant backlash of the rear wheel. Tightening the bearings did not lead to any long-term effect; after a couple of tens of kilometers, the backlash reappeared. One day the wheel just jammed. It's good that it happened in a good place and not at speed. Disassembly of the bushing revealed that the inner housing had burst. I had to buy a new wheel. The idea of making a rear wheel hub on the principle of a two-hull submarine probably has a right to exist, but not on our roads. The former “Made in yuseser”, made from a single piece of iron, were more reliable.

The part was made from a thicker piece and the chain just jammed on it. I had to put the old one back. It raises no objections. When buying a cassette, I noticed a cassette with a hypertrophied large asterisk lying on the window next to my own. Until now, it has not gone out of my head. It might be worth trying to increase the torque in low gear.

I remember as a child I envied the happy owners of the “Ukraine” produced by KhVZ, because their black and gold-embossed miracle had a footrest. It would seem a trifle, but no! It turned out to be a useless and even harmful thing. How many times have I found my friend in a helpless recumbent position after a short separation. From the very beginning, the coveted footboard gradually began to bend when parked and shamefully sag on the move. None of my manipulations with a hammer could bring the footboard into working condition. After a while, everything ended with the same horizontal position of the bike and broken rear-view mirrors. Until now, this device of an incomprehensible purpose hangs in its regular place, and I am trying to find ways to use it correctly.
Looking ahead, I will say that the new bike has fenders and a footrest, and they do their job properly.

I will describe one more property of my two-wheeled friend, for which I have not found an explanation. This is his nimbleness. This is not my first bike, but I never had such a fidgety bike.
