In detail: do-it-yourself repair of a semitrailer gate from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Serviceable gates on trailers, semi-trailers, vans guarantee the convenience of quick and easy loading, unloading, as well as the safety and quality of goods during transportation. First of all, the gate should provide quick and easy access to the load. The time spent on opening and closing gates that are not suitable for operation threatens to result in the loss of a profitable associated cargo. High-quality locking mechanisms, sealing rubber provide maximum protection for your cargo on the way.
Very often, the cause of malfunction of the doors of vans (hinges, bushings, worn out and torn sealing rubber, delamination of door panels, swelling of mortgages) is a frame (portal) in which corner joints are cracked and geometry is lost. That is, the rigidity and internal reinforcement are lost, the frame begins to "dangle", causing the above-mentioned parts to malfunction. In order not to waste your money on door repairs, we recommend, if necessary, to repair the door frame (reinforcement with dismantling / installation). In some situations, without eliminating both problems at the same time or eliminating only one, you can return to repair in the near future. Therefore, you need to eliminate these problems at the same time.
In the gates of tilt trailers (semi-trailers), there is a design in which internal fittings are used (internal locks inside the gate, tubular hinges). In this design, the hinges are held by rods (round timber) that run inside the goal and inside the goal posts. Over time, due to natural wear and tear in the places of internal constipation and in the hinges, the "undercut" begins when the gate is opened. The gate begins to sit down and the bushings are erased, the sealing gum of the gate fails. In such a situation, we offer three options for troubleshooting:
Video (click to play).
First, we dismantle and change the rods (gates, hinges), if necessary, we replace the hinges with bushings, leaving your locks and elastic band, i.e. we follow the path of preserving the original gate.
Second, we leave your door panels (in case of excellent technical condition) and install external fittings (external hinges, locks, elastic bands).
Third - in the case when your door panels and fittings are completely in bad condition, we install new doors (new panels made of Finnish plywood, new fittings with a sealing rubber).
The accumulated long-term experience of our company allows us not only to manufacture and install gates on any trailers, semi-trailers, vans, but also to provide high-quality repairs, restoration (restoration of old gates). For the manufacture of gates, our specialists use the necessary modern equipment and materials. For a long time already, the owners of tilt semi-trailers on the rear wall have been changing the valves to the gates. The advantages are obvious: on the one hand, the time for accessing the cargo is reduced, on the other hand, the risk of unauthorized entry inside is much reduced. In addition, this design is more dust and moisture resistant.
The first question that arises if you want to replace the awning with a gate: what material will their doors be made of: aluminum, all-welded galvanized metal or laminated plywood? By and large, all options are acceptable and each of them has justified itself over the years of operation. The nuances are that, say, the metal structure is certainly much stronger, but much heavier.
And the weight of the gate, especially on Russian roads, is of paramount importance: sometimes the hinges do not withstand constant vibration, which quickly loosen and sometimes even fall off literally on the go. Aluminum wickets are much lighter, but lose in price. I mean, very expensive. The golden mean can be considered plywood doors, upholstered on the outside (or better outside and inside) galvanized. They are lightweight and relatively cheap. The issue of strength is rather controversial, because a finished frame made of strong metal profiles is upholstered with plywood.
Installing the gate on a semi-trailer, like their production itself, is usually entrusted to specialized firms offering a wide range of products and services. They go to the site to take the dimensions of the rear wall opening, agree with the customer the material of the wicket and fittings, the color, the terms of the order, after which the price is negotiated, including installation.
Many truck owners are so passionate about their craft, as well as the cost savings, that they prefer to manufacture and install gates on their semi-trailers themselves.
If the structure is frame, then the frame is first welded, which will subsequently be sheathed with either laminated plywood or sheets of galvanized iron. For the frame, as a rule, metal (necessarily closed!) 50x50 made of iron with a thickness of 2.5 mm are used. They are cut into pieces according to the size of the opening, the corners are cut with a grinder strictly at an angle of 45 °. The workpieces are joined on a flat surface. The tape measure checks the parallelism of the side beams, the level - their placement in the plane. The seams of the corners are scalded. If the flaps are long in height, a transverse channel is welded between the two side beams, to which diagonal channels are placed from the corners, so that the gate does not deform and does not sag after some time of operation. The places where it is planned to attach the hinges are reinforced with metal corners. The frame is ready.
Frameless gates are made by gluing several layers of plywood with waterproof glue and upholstering them with a metal sheet. The sheets are attached with self-tapping screws. Holes for locks and hinges are pre-drilled.
Particular attention is paid to the hinges. If earlier they were mostly ordinary, double-hinged, now the so-called free fit is in trend. Such a structure does not break, does not sour over time and therefore can be easily dismantled in case of repair. Preference for locks is given to high-quality Russian and foreign stainless steel products.

Svarik, On my trailer there is no such thing, but I suppose that such glamorous washbasins on our paths for the flight are covered with dirt, so you will find it only by touch.
the main thing was the water was there. and the lid is eating. but the water does not run from the tap)))

Has anyone cooked a Schmitz wagon? I had a chance to visit it, chatted the floors, noticed that the support-racks were boiled, just above the sides or at the level of the side. it is galvanized, and here in some places the welding does not hold. How to cook correctly and how to strengthen it?
I cooked such a semi-trailer. Do you mean such a rack?
The photo has already been amplified. It breaks either by welding above, or in the same place under the reinforcing plate.I make new ones, but not from a rectangular pipe, but from corner No. 5 and a shelf thickness of 4 mm, welding it into a “box”.

PRepair of sliding roof guides of the Kögel semi-trailer.[/ font]
Initially, aluminum rails were installed on this semi-trailer. But after the accident, as a result of which these and another overpass in the form of a bridge suffered, steel guides of the I-type were installed, reinforced from below with a rectangular pipe 25 * 25 * 2. The repair was carried out in some Kiev firm. [/ font]
Problems with the new guides began almost immediately - they began to tear in a lively front-back of the brackets, which are the support of the guides on the side of the side struts. Welding the break points with the installation of all sorts of overlays did not give anything - they vomited at a new place immediately after-before welding. [/ Font]
It turned out that the Kiev firm also repaired the door leaf pillars - new ones were made and installed. But the places of their installation were not repaired or reinforced in any way. As a result of the operation of the semitrailer, the lower base of the door portal was almost torn off from the side members and the pillars of the door leafs were kept in a vertical plane only due to the roof guides. [/ font]
Had to tie the base of the portal to the side members. The problem seemed to have been finally resolved. But it was not there. As mentioned above, the roof guides are in cross-section an I-beam made by successive rolling from a rectangular pipe 40 * 25 * 2 (2.5). A pipe 25 * 25 * 2 is welded from below. Already to it, through two spring-loaded pins, which should go into the drilled holes in the pipe 25 * 25 * 2, the upper bracket of the side post is attached. At these holes, the bracket should dangle a little, and the entire rack should have a little freedom. There were no holes, the bracket was simply welded on. As a result of constant vibrations, vibrations, the upper arm of the rack (all 6 pcs.) Vomited along with the reinforcing pipe. [/ font]
The reason is determined, it remains to eliminate the consequences. [/ font]
Acted consistently, going from stance to stance. I cut out about a meter section of the reinforcing pipe and made a new one with pre-drilled holes for the pins of the upper bracket. In the new pipe, from one end, a protruding insert of 70 ... 100 mm was made from a rectangular pipe 20 * 20 * 2, which was fixed with two electric rivets. One end was loosely inserted into the rest of the amplifier, and the other was welded through a 4 mm pad, installed from below, with longitudinal seams. In addition, the new insert was also welded with longitudinal intermittent seams to the I-beam. [/ font]
The middle part of the side struts was made new from corner # 5 with a shelf thickness of 4 mm. [/ font]
Recently I stopped by for another reason. So far, everything is fine with the roof guides. [/ font]

Another Kögel stopped by. [/ font]
The upper shock absorber pin on the middle axle of the semi-trailer broke off. [/ font]
[/ font] [/ font] So [/ font] as in this semi-trailer design it is welded into the spring bracket "tightly", then we had to make changes to the design, making it maintainable with removable and a purchased finger. The technology has already been worked out, since on the same axis, but on a different hand, we have done this operation before. [/ font] Cut out the remnants of the broken finger, cleaned up and prepared the places for welding. Made a bushing for a purchased shock absorber pin with M24 thread. [/ font] Since the old pin broke the spring bracket wall (the “bull” wall), we had to make a 6 mm thick steel plate. To bore a hole in this pad up to ø40 mm in a lathe, I welded a pipe to it, for which I clamped the structure in the chuck. Then I just cut this pipe. [/ font] I boiled everything and put the damper in place. [/ font] The shock absorber also had to be boiled, as his upper ear was vomited. [/ font]
So, you have decided that you need a new gate for the truck. The best way to solve this problem is to turn to professionals. Among our clients there are companies that will help you with this. For example, Ven-Service company.
But if you want to save money and like to work with your hands, then this article is for you. First, you need to decide on the material from which the gate will be made. The most common and best option is moisture resistant plywood or film faced plywood. This is the same. It only remains to choose the thickness. Film faced plywood is quite heavy, so you need to carefully choose the thickness. If you are making a gate on a Gazelle, then the thickness of 18 mm is quite suitable for you. If you are making a gate for a truck with a larger tonnage, then you can use 21 mm.
There are also options for making gates from a metal profile. In this case, the gate is filled with foam, which can be bought at a hardware store. It can be sheathed with galvanized sheet purchased in the same metal rolling in which the profile was purchased.
Plywood can be left without sheathing, it can be painted or also sheathed with a metal sheet.
Now about the hardware for the gate. First- these are hinges, sometimes they are called gate awnings. When choosing hinges, the weight and height of the door are important factors. Depending on this, the size and number of loops are selected. Accordingly, the larger the gate, the larger the loop.
Small trucks, such as the Gazelle, have another important nuance that must be taken into account when choosing hinges. This is the thickness of the hinge attachment point to the body. Our task is to make the van door open to the end, i.e. rested against the side wall. Therefore, we can use narrow hinges or wide hinges.
SecondAre locks. There are two types of locks for pipes: 22 mm in diameter and 27 mm in diameter. If you have a gate height of 2 - 2.5 meters, then you can put a lock under a 22 mm pipe, if more than 2.5 meters, then you need to put locks along a pipe with a diameter of 27 mm.
In the process of manufacturing the gate, it is necessary to provide for the possibility of replacing consumables and components of the lock. Consumables include plastic bushings in the supports, which wear out over time. You can always purchase bushings for our locks in our store.
Third- this is a seal for the doors of the van. A door seal is necessary to protect the cargo from moisture and dust, it will also help keep the temperature in the van. The best option is a rubber seal without a plastic base. It is mounted at the end, using metal plates and self-tapping screws or rivets. But such a seal is only suitable for doors with a thickness of 29 mm or more. For a rubber seal, you can purchase a silicone grease from us, which will help preserve its properties for many years and protect it from freezing.
If your gate is made of plywood, then a rubber-plastic sealant with a thickness of 18 mm and 21 mm, respectively, will suit you. When installing this seal, you do not need metal plates. You can fix it with special glue or self-tapping screws. It is not recommended to use rivets, as the plastic base breaks under strong compression.
And the final touch - open door lock. Here I think comments are superfluous. Without it, nowhere.
So the necessary hardware for the gate:
Recently, our customers have increasingly begun to ask about the sliding roof on the Gazelle. Ordering a ready-made import version is quite expensive, so we have studied this issue and will tell you how to make a sliding awning yourself.
(End. Beginning see "OS" No. 1, 2012)
Awnings for flatbed semitrailers are divided into two types: a conventional sliding U-shaped and a composite one, consisting of a sliding roof on a special flexible frame, folding "accordion", and two separate curtains, which can also be sliding. Of course, theoretically it is possible to order a semi-trailer with only one sliding wall, but in practice they order either a regular "bag", or only with a sliding roof, or with sliding walls and a roof. (At the same time, you will have to pay about 1,000 euros for the sliding roof, and another 700,800 euros for the curtain walls.)
A sliding U-shaped awning is significantly cheaper than a curtain one, but there is more trouble with it, at least when it comes to top loading, and therefore the tariff for the transportation of long items loaded by a crane is usually higher than for the transportation of palletized goods.
Curtain semitrailers allow in a matter of minutes to move the roof or side curtain together with the racks, opening access for loading and unloading, which is especially important when transporting indivisible long loads or when partially unloading a load located in the front of the semitrailer.
The weak point of sliding roofs is the rollers on which the frame moves, so now many manufacturers have begun to install rollers not on an axis, but on ball bearings, which require less effort when moving the roof and last much longer.
In winter, water often freezes on the roof of a semi-trailer, turning into an ice crust, which does not allow the roof to move, and is traumatic for others. To solve the problem, K&M developed the RoofSafetyAirBag (RSAB) system, which consists of an air sleeve running along the trailer axis between the tarpaulin and the roof frame and inflated with air from the semi-trailer pneumatic system. In this case, the awning rises in the center by 175 mm, forming a gable roof, so that water does not accumulate there, but flows down. Moreover, this system also works when the trailer is uncoupled from the tractor. The system can be installed on both new and used semitrailers. Interestingly, the system solves the problem of the height of the semi-trailer, which, as you know, should not exceed 4 m. RSAB operates under low pressure - only 0.05 atm, which allows you to quickly fill the sleeve with air and quickly bleed it if the driver presses the brake pedal in front of the restriction point by height gauge or by a place of gauge control.
As for curtain sideless semitrailers, they usually have stacked sides. Moreover, the carrier boards used for this can always be removed and left in the warehouse or fixed under the semitrailer. This gives a gain not so much in weight (by about 100 kg), but in the fact that the presence of a side cancels out all the advantages of a curtain semitrailer, since in order to remove the racks in the presence of sides, it is necessary not only to unlace, but also to fold the sides and remove them. At the same time, you can remove (or install) the side boards from the inside without touching the awning, after which you can move both the awning and the stands fixed on the rollers.
In recent years, so-called non-cut tarpaulins have become available on semi-trailers, on the inside of which a net made of a strong thin steel cable with a mesh size of 100.120 mm is glued. In this case, if the intruder sticks his hand into the semi-trailer through the cut hole, he will still be unable to pull out anything from there. Of course, you can cut the cable too, but since it takes much more time, attackers prefer not to get involved with such tents.
Instead of a valve that closes the rear portal of tilt semi-trailers, gates have been installed for a long time, although at present any carrier can order an awning with a valve. Installing a gate instead of a valve has two advantages at once. This is a reduction in the loss of time for unlacing and lacing the valve during loading and unloading (you can open the doors much faster), and in addition, the rear gate is one of the elements that protect the cargo from theft, because most often the cargo from the semitrailer is stolen by cutting the rear valve. often on the go.
The installation of the rear gate, which can be either steel or aluminum, costs about 600. 1000 euros. Aluminum gates are made of type-setting strips, and steel gates are all-welded. Steel doors are slightly cheaper, but about 80 kg heavier. At the same time, they are stronger and easier to repair if damaged.
An important element of the rear gate that causes the greatest number of complaints is its hinges (curtains). Until recently, the most common were hinges built into the doors (slotted), which were attached to a solid axis. This design met all customs requirements, but suffered from one "small" drawback: during operation, the axles were firmly stuck in the places of contact with the rack and it was almost impossible to knock them out to replace the hinges or bushings. In addition, if the loop is cut and rigidly fixed from movement, and the driver does not pull the doorway with belts diagonally, on bad roads the gate begins to go up and down. And the place where the hinge enters, at the same time breaks, especially in aluminum gates, and often simply cuts off the hinge. And the rigid fastening of the doors does not allow replacing the bushings in the hinges, which seriously complicates their repair.
Now this problem has been solved by almost all manufacturers. So, for example, Ko..gel began to make a loose fit of the hinge on the gate. In this case, the loop does not rest on anything at the top point, but simply rises and sits in place. The hinges themselves have bushings - plastic for Europe and brass for the CIS countries, which are easy to replace by removing the door from the curtains. At the same time, on Krone semi-trailers, the loop is rigidly fixed from movement, but is built into the steel portal, and its axis can be pulled out in a matter of seconds, and the strong steel gate keeps the portal from loosening.
According to modern safety requirements, the front wall on semi-trailers, which is usually made of steel or from a type-setting aluminum profile, must withstand a load of 12 tons in order to protect the driver from the load, which, during sudden braking, can break off the mountings and ram the cab (unless, of course, the load secured properly.)
No less important is the local reinforcement of the front wall in its lower part with a protective profile, in the place of possible contact with the pallet during loading. Usually, on semi-trailers, the protective profile is attached to the front wall, but this solution is far from ideal, since the front wall gradually loosened from the impact of the loader. Therefore, a much more effective solution is to attach the protective profile directly to the frame, which not only protects the front wall from impact, but also additionally strengthens it. Ko..gel, Krone and Fliegl, among others, have such a construction.
Modern semi-trailers are equipped with WABCO, Knorr-Bremse and Haldex braking systems, which are more or less equivalent in terms of reliability. In this case, two types of brakes can be used - disc and drum.
Traditionally, drum brakes are more popular in our market primarily due to the longer life of the brake pads, especially in bad road conditions (when mud gets into the brakes). Disc brakes are more efficient. They are also easier and cheaper to maintain, since the drums must be removed to gain access to the pads on the drum brakes, which requires additional costs. In addition, it is believed that disc brakes work more efficiently with stabilization systems and EBS of the latest generation than drum brakes, although in real use this is almost invisible. Krone, for example, offers a dual-circuit braking system with split drive on the port and starboard side. And in case of failure of one circuit, the second will continue to work.
The corner bumper, installed at the corners of the frame at the rear of the trailer, is designed to protect the trailer from contact with the ramp. Moreover, not only from a collision with it when maneuvering, but also from vertical displacements during loading and unloading operations during the arrival and departure of the loader. These bumpers are usually of three types: standard solid rubber, steel or double rubber rollers.Such fenders are in the specifications of almost all manufacturers and are installed at the request of the customer. It should be borne in mind that a standard bump stop, made in the form of a rubber cushion, usually has the shortest service life, since it often breaks off during vertical movements of the semi-trailer when it is firmly resting on the ramp or if some obstacle is encountered in its path during movement.
The rear bumper design includes a rear light bracket and an underrun protection. In this case, the rear bumper can be either integrated or separate. An integrated bumper is cheaper, but when the vehicle in the rear enters into it, the cost of repairs will be significantly higher.
The bracket for the rear lights can be made either from ordinary steel, or from "stainless steel" or plastic. It is clear that such brackets differ significantly in strength, durability, maintainability and price. What to give preference to is a choice for the carrier.
In recent years, a lot of additional equipment has appeared on tilt trailers, which allows both to speed up logistics operations and to increase the driver's convenience. This includes, for example, pallet handling systems on two floors, which can carry 66 pallets at the same time. Such systems, used by different manufacturers, increase the utilization of the semitrailer's internal volume, simplify partial unloading and allow transporting light loads at the same time as heavy loads installed on the semitrailer floor.
The special prefabricated "false wall" offered by Krone can be installed anywhere on the semitrailer and can withstand a load of 25 tons, providing a stop for the load at the moment of braking.
Pallet racks for 24. 36 pallets, optionally installed under the frame, allow carriers to deliver returnable pallets without taking up the usable internal volume.
And Schmitz Cargobull has developed a semitrailer-mounted and lockable "kitchen" - a drawer that contains a water tank, a gas stove holder and a storage compartment for dishes and food, which is useful for the driver on a long voyage.
The company "Trans-Moroz" carries out repair of gates on semi-trailers, trailers and vans of any manufacturer. We quickly and efficiently eliminate all types of malfunctions: we replace canopies, locks, fittings, gaskets, sashes and the gates themselves. We strengthen the rear pillars, repair the rear frame, eliminate distortions and other defects. We work with gates of any height. We carry out repairs in our own guarded territory, there are large warm boxes with all the necessary equipment.
We know from our own experience that a faulty door on a van is a serious problem for drivers. Anyone who has "walked" with a load will confirm this. Unfortunately, it is not always possible to repair the gate on a semi-trailer by yourself. Therefore, it is better to contact a specialized workshop, service center or a company like ours, which combines both. So you are guaranteed to receive quality service and a quick problem solution.
This is especially important when it is necessary to repair the rear doors on a semitrailer, since the door portals can be deformed during operation.
Working since 2007, we have managed to earn the trust of not only our clients. More than ten companies have already granted us the right to be their official dealers and service center. We sell trailed equipment from the following manufacturers: Krone, Fliegl, vans AVANTGARDE, PROMAVTO, PELIKAN VAN, AvtoMash, ST NIZHEGORODETS. We also carry out warranty and post-warranty repair of gates of vans and semi-trailers of these companies, including their replacement.
The company's specialists will also perform high-quality and fast repair of gates on the Schmitz semitrailer and other brands of vehicles.
In addition to minor and medium repairs, we provide a service such as a complete replacement of gates on a semitrailer, trailer, van of any brand. By agreement with the client, we change the original doors and door portals (rear frames) to the same ones.
If you need just such a gate repair on a semitrailer, then contact us in advance by phone or in any other way available to you (go to the "contacts" section) and tell us the brand of your van or trailer. Because it is extremely rare that the required gate is available.
If the goal of installing the original is not worth it, then we suggest you install your own gate. This option is no worse, and, according to many drivers, even better. This effect is achieved due to the exact fit of the seal, which makes it possible to minimize the gaps between the door and the door portal and achieve perfect tightness, which, unfortunately, standard doors from the manufacturer cannot afford due to the change in the geometry of the door portal during the operation of the semitrailer.
In addition, such installation of the doors of the van or semi-trailer will be done faster, since it does not take time to wait for the doors to be delivered from the vehicle manufacturer's factory.
The fact is that for a long time working with semi-trailers, gates and their repair, we have accumulated a lot of experience and have identified all the weak points of van gates. Naturally, making our own portal and sash, we try to eliminate them. Therefore, our gates are airtight, strong, reliable and durable.
When carrying out repairs and manufacturing of semi-trailer gates, our specialists use only high-quality materials and fittings. Also, original parts, assemblies and accessories from the manufacturer of the brand of equipment being repaired are used.
We are very attentive to the tightness of our products. On our gates there is always a tight-fitting rubber and plastic seal. Dirt or water will not spoil your load.
Promptness... We perfectly understand the need for prompt repair of doors on a semitrailer, which will allow our customers not to stop production and not suffer losses due to the urgent need to repair the car. The repair technologies worked out over the years allow all work to be carried out quickly and efficiently.
Quality... Employees of the "Trans-Moroz" company have the necessary experience and qualifications to carry out a high-quality repair or installation of gates on a semi-trailer and van. Over the years, they have developed highly effective methods for repairing and replacing doors, allowing them to achieve excellent results.
We provide a 6-month warranty for the work performed by us.
Price... We are able to manufacture and install our own gates, including a door portal. This will save a lot of money as well as time compared to installing an original door from the vehicle manufacturer.
For more information, contact us by calling the hotline 8 (800) 333-46-43 or ask a question using the feedback form.
