In detail: do-it-yourself repair of the Prior's rear suspension from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
Rear pillars on the Priora, meaning high-quality factory ones, under normal operating conditions can move more than 200,000 km. Of course, not every car can boast of such mileage before replacing the rear shock absorbers. If the racks are no longer held, and the back of your Priora begins to float, or its body is in oil (leaked), then they must be replaced with new ones.
Each owner can independently replace these parts, the main thing is to have the necessary tool at hand. In this case, to complete this repair you will need:
Open end wrench 19 mm
19 mm head
Ratchet handle or crank
Hammer
Penetrating grease
Special wrench for holding the strut rod
So, first of all, when the car is still on wheels, we remove the plastic plugs from the rack glasses from the side of the passenger compartment. It is under them that the shock absorber mounts are located.
If there is a special wrench, then with its help it is necessary to unscrew the rack fastening nut from above, keeping the stem from turning. If there is no device, then we hold the stock with improvised means.
After the nut turns freely, you can move to the lower shock absorber mount. To do this, remove the rear wheel and apply a penetrating lubricant to the threaded connections. We wait a few minutes and unscrew the rack mounting nut from below.
We knock out the bolt if it has soured, using a hammer and a breakdown for this. When this has been done, it is necessary to unscrew the upper fastening nut to the end.
Now you need to pry the shock absorber and dismantle it from its seat in the rear beam using a pry bar.

Now you can remove the entire shock absorber assembly, as well as the Priora rear suspension spring.
If necessary, we replace the struts with new ones, as well as the springs if they are already worn out. The spring can be removed without any problems, after which we remove the boot and assemble everything in reverse order with new parts.
The report was prepared on the example of a car of the tenth family, but there will be no differences from the Priora.
The price of new racks produced by SAAZ, which are factory-made, is from 1000 rubles per piece. Springs can be bought for 1000 rubles, a set of 2 pieces.
The front suspension on a VAZ 2170 car is an independent MacPherson suspension. The basis of the car's suspension is a telescopic shock absorber strut. The front suspension on the Lada Priora car, as standard, is independent with hydraulic shock absorbers.
The shock absorbers are equipped with barrel-shaped coil springs.
The support is fastened to the support using 3 nuts. Due to the presence of a high degree of elasticity, the support is capable of providing swinging of the rack during the working stroke of the automatic suspension and damping vibrations. The bearing built into the support allows the column to be rotated simultaneously with the wheels.
With the help of the latter, the angle of inclination of the pivot axis is adjusted. The rotary cam provides for the installation of a closed-type bearing. A wheel hub is mounted on the inner bearing rings. The bearing is tightened with a nut on the shank, located on the Lada Priora wheel drive housing, and cannot be adjusted. All hub nuts are interchangeable and right-hand threaded.
In addition to the hydraulic suspension, today manufacturers produce another type of Priora suspension - pneumatic.Before you start talking about replacing the hydraulic suspension, which is installed in the standard Lada Priora with air suspension, you need to choose the right springs and air shock absorbers.
The springs are a special damper, the function of which is to dampen vibrations that occur in the suspension when it contacts the road. In the case of the correct choice of air suspension springs on the Prior, you can not be afraid of suspension breakdowns when hitting bumps, if the road is not smooth.
One of these breakdowns that most often occurs is knocking on the front suspension. In addition, such a malfunction is the most common and can occur when the silent blocks on the Prior are worn out.
After replacing the springs and shock absorbers, the independent suspension on the Prioru requires high-quality adjustment of the settings. The process of adjusting the new suspension installed on the Lada Priora includes a decrease in unsprung masses and ground clearance.
To operate the suspension, a compressor and a receiver with a volume of 8 liters are installed on the car. In some models, the independent suspension on the Prioru is equipped with a compressor with a 10 liter receiver. This Lada suspension has a reaction time of about 4 seconds. The control principle is manual, and the control is carried out using pressure gauges. The control is four-circuit (separate for the front and rear axles, as well as for the right and left sides of the car).
At the same time, the installation of air suspension on the car allows you to improve the dynamic qualities of the car. The rear independent suspension installed on the car, along with the installed front independent suspension, provides a huge number of advantages, which are expressed in the following:
Installation of air suspension on Prioru allows the driver to independently control and change, if necessary, the vehicle's clearance, taking into account the quality of the road surface and the load on the vehicle's suspension.
Independent suspension on Prioru is installed on the car with your own hands, and the installation process is simple. Therefore, the installation of air suspension on the Priora can be carried out by every motorist, if you follow certain advice and recommendations of specialists.
pneumatic cushion;
compressor;
fasteners and braces;
pneumatic valves;
pressure gauge;
start button;
air supply line;
air pressure sensor;
start relay.
In the process of pumping compressed air into the pillow, the clearance of the Lada Priora changes. When the pressure in the airbag decreases, the vehicle clearance decreases. Ride height adjustment is the main function of the Priora suspension airbag.
An independent suspension is mounted on Prioru using special fasteners and braces. Using these elements, the Lada Priora air suspension is attached to the car body. These parts, if you have some skills in working with metal, can be made independently, but it is best to order and manufacture these fasteners for the Priora suspension from a specialist. In this case, there will be a guarantee of high-quality manufacturing of components.
For installation in the suspension system on the Prioru, you can use the pressure gauge that is used in pneumatic systems operating at a pressure of a certain range. The start button is designed to adjust the state of the air suspension directly from the Lada Priora's cabin.
Bushings are welded on the front ends of the levers, which the suspension has. The silent blocks are pressed into these bushings. Silent blocks are rubber-metal hinges. The bolts that connect the suspension arms to the brackets pass through the bushings and are attached to the side members of the car body.
The rear suspension is equipped with hydraulic shock absorbers. The hydraulic shock absorber is mounted using a bolt to the suspension arm bracket.The shock absorber rod is attached to the upper spring seat by means of rubber cushions and a support washer. Increasingly, motorists are turning their attention to the rear suspension, which is structurally different from the standard rear suspension of the car.
When operating a car on which a standard rear suspension is installed, the car beam is displaced towards the arch when cornering by about 1 cm.If the car is equipped with a rear independent suspension, then such displacement of the beam under similar operating conditions is not observed. The rear independent suspension is rigidly attached to the body, without the use of silent blocks on the Prior in the rear suspension mount, which avoids lateral displacement of the beam.
The silent blocks, which are part of the structure of the rear and front suspensions, perform the function of damping all twisting and bending moments that may occur during movement, thereby ensuring a stable position of the vehicle on uneven road surfaces and when cornering.
Silent blocks are mounted on a car as an element of the chassis and suspension, since this structural element is one of the most reliable and economical ways to prevent the influence of various types of deformations and loads on the car body, which can occur during the operation of the car. Installation and replacement of silent blocks on the Priora is provided in some vehicle suspension units:
When the silent blocks on the Priora wear out, they need to be replaced. As mentioned earlier, silent blocks are used in the design of both the front and rear suspension of a car. Replacement of silent blocks on Priora is carried out by pressing out old elements after their extreme wear and installing new silent blocks in their place.
Removing the beam from the vehicle is not required to replace the silent block. We change the silent blocks in turn: first with one, then with the other beam lever.
To complete the work you will need:
- universal cup stripper.
1. Preparing the car for work.
2. Place the car on a secure stand and remove the rear left wheel.
3. On cars without ABS, disconnect the elastic pressure regulator lever from the shackle. On vehicles equipped with ABS, we remove the wheel speed sensor wire from the bracket on the lever.
4. We release the left parking brake cable from the two brackets for attaching the cable to the left arm of the rear suspension.
5. Using a 19 mm socket wrench, unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the lever to the body bracket, holding the bolt with a 19 mm spanner wrench.
6. Take out the bolt. Pull the lever down (without pulling the brake hose) and install the extractor cup from the outside, and a special washer - from the inside of the lever.
7. Rotating the nut of the puller bolt, press out the silent block into the cup.
The silent block has a stop on one edge, so it should be pressed out only towards the car sill.
8. Apply silicone grease or soap solution to the cylindrical surface of the new silent block.
9. Install the puller cup on the inside of the lever.
10. Rotating the nut of the puller bolt, press the new silent block into the lever until it stops.
11. Install the lever in the body bracket and fix it with a bolt and nut without tightening it.
The arm bolt is inserted into the body bracket from the side of the vehicle sill.
12. On cars without ABS, insert an elastic growl] into the shackle of the pressure regulator and fix it with a stopper.
13. We fix it in the bracket; hand brake cable and wheel speed sensor wire.
14. Install the wheel and remove the car from the stands.
15. Press n several times; the rear of the vehicle for self-installation of the suspension.
16. Finally, tighten the lever bolt nut to a torque of 66.6–82.3 Nm (6.8–8.4 kgcm).
17. The silent block of the second lever is replaced in the same way.
Repair work on the removal of the rear suspension beam on the Lada Priora car is performed in case of its damage with the aim of subsequent replacement, as well as when performing various bodywork, in which its presence will interfere. As a rule, replacement is carried out after a severe accident, as a result of which the beam is deformed and cannot be restored. It is also removed to replace the silent blocks of the rear suspension beams, while this requires a special tool, so it is better to carry out repairs in a specialized workshop. It is more convenient to carry out these works on lifts, in the absence of them, the car must be jacked up and installed on supports in a suspended state. To carry out the work, prepare a standard set of tools and do the following sequence of actions:
We hang the back of the car and proceed to disassembly. First of all, it is necessary to disconnect the drive cable with the parking brake from the drive mechanism. To do this, unscrew the lock nut and the adjusting nut with two keys and remove the cable end from the equalizer. Then remove the cable sheath from the mounting brackets on the body and rear axle beam.
Next, we disconnect the lower mounting of both shock absorbers by unscrewing the nuts of the bolts of their fastening to the axle brackets. In this case, there is no need to unscrew the nuts of the upper fastening, since they will remain in a suspended state.
Now it is necessary to disconnect the drive lever with the brake pressure regulator from the rear axle beam, for this we take out the locking shackle and take it to the side.
Disconnect the brake hoses from the pipes. Then plug the holes in the pipes to prevent leakage of brake fluid.
Next, we proceed to remove the rear beam. To do this, you can go in two ways, or unscrew one nut of the bolts securing the beam to the brackets, then knock out the bolts, carefully together with an assistant, lower the bridge to the ground and roll it out from under the car.
In the second case, it is recommended to remove the bridge together with the brackets located on the body, that is, by unscrewing three nuts of their fastening to the studs.
This completes the repair work on the removal of the rear suspension beam on the Lada Priora car. Carry out the necessary repairs, and then carry out the installation in the reverse order.
