Skoda Fabia DIY chassis repair

In detail: Skoda Fabia do-it-yourself chassis repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

Signed up for a service to replace the silent ...
They are located on the outskirts of the city, but the quality of the work is excellent and the price is fabulous!

The story began like this ...
The service is called Octavia, the owner used to work in the official Skoda service, then opened his own.
I arrived at 12, drove the car for inspection and it turned out that the silent levers were also asking for immediate replacement, but somehow I did not buy them (foolishly!)
There are 5 shops in the neighborhood, but there are no necessary parts ...
I went to a trusted store, bought a TRW JBU 503, spent 3 hours moving around in the rain without an umbrella on public transport (this is a tough thing!)
Brought to the service and the work began to boil!

with the disassembled suspension, replacing the bushings is a pleasure! Took 16 mm.

Then they collected everything back and on the similarity collapse

The suspension of the Skoda Fabia car is the most important mechanism that not only ensures the comfort of passengers while driving, but also extends the service life of the car. In this article, you will learn about the purpose, structure and possible malfunctions of this mechanism.

This mechanism serves for non-rigid connection of the Skoda Fabia with the supporting surface. It dampens the shock loads that occur when driving over irregularities, increasing the ride comfort and extending the vehicle's life. The suspension also acts as a stabilizer. So, the lateral stability of the car is provided by the anti-roll bar.

The front suspension of the Skoda Fabia is independent and consists of shock absorber struts and a damper. Springs, compression buffers and bearings with bearings are assembled on Fabius struts. Skoda shock absorbers are connected to the front control arms. The connection of the anti-roll bar to the suspension is provided by two brackets through the rubber bushings of the Skoda stabilizer. The front levers are connected to the cross member by means of silent blocks. Skoda Fabia front wheel hubs are mounted on non-adjustable bearings (double row, ball).

The rear suspension of the Skoda Fabia is a semi-dependent lever-spring suspension. Skoda trailing arms are fixed to the body and are interconnected by means of a transverse beam. Brackets are welded to them, on which the brakes and wheel hubs are fixed. Bushings are welded to the front of the levers, into which the silent blocks are pressed. Skoda double-sided shock absorbers are attached with the lower side to the levers, and the upper side to the Skoda Fabia body.

The deplorable state of our road surface has a very negative effect on the service life of the suspension elements. Most often, replacement of front suspension elements is required. This is due to its design as well as its close relationship with the steering system.

Most often, replacement of the silent blocks installed in the front levers is required. This do is represented by two metal Fabius bushings, which are connected by a rubber insert. Under the influence of shock loads, the rubber part of the silent block is destroyed, which leads to its failure.

Replacement process:

  1. Block the wheels of the vehicle with wedges.
  2. Using a jack, raise the front of the car and remove the wheel.
  3. Using the special tool, lightly squeeze the strut spring.
  4. Remove the three bolts that connect the ball joint and the front arm after unscrewing the nuts.
  5. Remove the bolts of the front and rear mountings of the arm to the cross member.
  6. Remove the hinges from the cross member brackets.
  7. Remove the lever.
  8. Replace silent blocks.
  9. Assemble the suspension elements in reverse order.

As you can see, replacing the silentblock is a simple operation that you can perform yourself. The only difficulty is the removal and installation of the silent block itself.

The fact is, an interference fit is used to secure it. A special puller is required to remove the hinge. And for installation, a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter and a sledgehammer are enough.

Fabia stabilizer bushings are also made of rubber. Over time, they wear out, and this leads to the appearance of characteristic knocks when the car is moving. The replacement process is very simple - just dismantle the stabilizer and replace the rubber bushings on it.

The suspension of the Skoda Fabia is distinguished by its softness and reliability. If you want it to retain its characteristics throughout the entire operating time of the machine, it is necessary to replace worn parts in a timely manner.
