Measure the gaps, if you find discrepancies with the data, continue further;
Loosen the lock nut, turn the adjusting screw;
Measure the throttle valve clearance, it must match the data, achieve compliance with the adjusting screw.

Then you need to adjust the idle speed. Correctly set idle speed ensures stable engine operation. The adjustment is carried out provided that the carburetor and air filter are installed, the engine is warmed up to operating temperature. Before the engine warms up, tighten the quality screw all the way, then loosen it by 3-4 turns;
Start the engine, remove the suction, turn on the headlights and fan;

Next, set the maximum speed with the quality screw;
Then set the rpm to 900;
Further 800;
Tighten the quality screw until you achieve an unstable speed, then unscrew it one turn;

screwdrivers (Phillips, flat);

a ruler (better than a vernier caliper);

a round bar with a diameter of 2 mm (a wire or drill is suitable).

Dismantle the housing of the air filter element. To do this, unscrew the fastening nut of the housing cover, unscrew the latches, remove the cover, take out the filter and twist 4 nuts that fix the housing to the carburetor.

In the case when the amount of fuel in the chamber is below or above the norm, we carry out a visual inspection and a series of measurements on the floats, if necessary, we correct their position.

To carry out adjustment work, put the removed carburetor cover on a flat horizontal surface with the floats up.

First, we look from above at the position of the elements. The outer side surfaces of the floats are parallel to the special imprints on the gasket. Deviations can cause the floats to come into contact with adjacent elements and surfaces, as a result of which the fuel level is not correct. If necessary, we adjust the position of the floats by bending their attachment levers.
The next step is to measure the gap between the floats and the gasket. A rod with a diameter of 2 mm will come in handy here - this should be the specified gap.

If it does not correspond, we bend the tongue of the floats, with which they act on the shut-off needle. After this adjustment, we check the total height of the floats, which is normally 34 mm. If this is not the case, check the gap again, correct it if necessary and measure the height again.

The last stage of the setup is to define the working stroke of the floats. To do this, we put a caliper near the float, mark the distance from its lower corner to the surface of the lid, then raise the float with our hand and mark where the lower corner is.

A working stroke of 15 mm is considered normal, if it is different, it is adjustable by bending the tongue.

There is an easier method for determining the correct position of the floats, which does not require measurements.
Place the carburetor cover on a flat table and look at the punches made on the side surfaces. When the floats are in the normal position, these strips are parallel to the cover.

Then we lift the floats up and look at their bottom, which, after lifting, should be located parallel to the surface of the lid. If necessary, we correct the position of the floats by bending the tongue.

After adjustment work, we assemble the carburetor.

The second setting of the VAZ-2109 carburetor is idle speed, it can be partial and full. The first is for minor adjustments to the rpm, the second is with air volume control (setting of CO emissions in exhaust gases).

Partial adjustments are made with the air-fuel ratio screw.This screw sets the opening angle of the throttle valves, which ensures the flow of the air-fuel mixture into the cylinders when the accelerator pedal is released. The "quantity" screw rests against the throttle valve control lever and when screwed in, it pushes the lever, which causes the valves to open slightly.

Partial idle adjustment is performed on a warm engine and with the creation of a load on the on-board network of the car, by turning on the high beam headlights and the interior heater at full power.
The adjustment is carried out on the running engine by screwing in / out the "quantity" screw until the optimum idle speed is established, which for the VAZ-2109 is 800-900 rpm (this can be tracked by the standard or connected tachometer).

If it is not possible to set the required revolutions or the motor is unstable at them, a complete adjustment is carried out, which is carried out by two screws - "quantity" and "quality".

The algorithm for this adjustment consists of the following stages:

We warm up the engine, then turn off;
We find the quality screw (it can be closed with a plug that will have to be removed), turn it all the way, and then unscrew it by 3-4 full turns;
We start the engine, turn on the electrical consumers (lighting and stove) in order to create a load in the on-board network;
Rotating the “quantity” screw, we achieve 700-800 rpm on the tachometer;
Turning the “quality” screw, set the maximum possible revolutions (they will increase to a certain level, and then they will stop. The moment of stopping the increase in revolutions is considered the maximum);
We expose with the screw the "quantity" 900 rpm;
Using the "quality" screw, we lower them to 800 rpm;
Slowly turn the "quality" screw until the power plant malfunctions, after which we turn it back 1 turn;
We correct the revolutions with the "quantity" screw, bringing them to the normal level - 800-900 rpm;

After adjusting operations, we check the correctness of their implementation. This is done by abruptly pressing the gas pedal followed by a quick release. With a properly tuned carburetor, the engine should respond quickly to pressing, without any dips or hiccups. And after releasing the pedal, the revolutions will decrease to the idle level, without subsidence or manifestation of instability of the motor.

Do not dismantle brass tubes unnecessarily.

A very important point! The throttle adjustment screw of the second chamber has a protective cap, it does not need to be removed, and the screw itself should not be touched. Otherwise, the factory settings of the mechanism will be changed, which may lead to serious malfunctions of the entire assembly.
