Vaz 21099 DIY carburetor repair

In detail: vaz 21099 do-it-yourself carburetor repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

The most common reason for the breakdown of the VAZ 2108 - 21099 carburetor is the incorrect location of the floats, the installation of the floats should only be checked using a template. The specified instructions can be used when repairing the carburetor of a VAZ 2108, 2109 car.

Initially, we remove the air filter, disconnect the air damper rod, then the fuel drain wires, supply wires, the solenoid valve wire.

Ideally, a template should be made to regulate the fuel level. We place the carburetor cover with floats to the top in a horizontal position, install a template made in advance on it. No more than 1.0mm - this is the acceptable gap between the template and the floats. More or less the gap is adjustable by bending the float arms or tongue.

A thin copper wire with a smaller diameter than the hole in the orifice is best for cleaning the nozzles, otherwise the calibration of the orifice will deteriorate.

Sooner or later, any owner of a car with a carburetor fuel supply system is faced with malfunctions of this important device. We will tell you how to properly remove, repair and adjust the carburetor of a VAZ 21099 car without the help of specialists.

The manufacturer installed DAAZ 21083 carburetors, Soviet copies of Solex devices popular at that time, on VAZ 21099 cars with engines of 1100 and 1300 cubic centimeters. DAAZ 21053 carburetors with enlarged diffusers and jets were mounted on cars with a 1500 cubic centimeters engine.

When replacing a faulty device, this feature must be taken into account, because if an unsuitable carburetor is installed, the engine idle speed will be unstable and fuel consumption will increase in both urban and combined cycles.

The main symptoms of carburetor malfunction.

  1. The car jerks when driving on the highway.
  2. Failure occurs when the accelerator pedal is pressed sharply
  3. The engine stalls on the move.
  4. The engine simply won't start after being idle.

1 symptom occurs when the fuel and air jets are clogged, the accelerator pump malfunctions and air leaks due to cracks in the carburetor housing.

Symptom 2 indicates the need to replace the accelerating pump.

Symptom 3, when the engine stalls on the move, indicates a clogged air filter or large particles of dirt entering the carburetor with complete closure of the fuel or air passages.

Symptom 4 indicates a sticking of the needle valve in the float chamber or vaporization of gasoline through cracks in the carburetor cover.

There is a latent sign of a carburetor malfunction - increased fuel consumption. This phenomenon occurs when the combustible mixture is re-enriched due to incorrect adjustments or clogging of the air filter and nozzles.

Carburetor repair is a simple procedure. When removing it, you do not need to replace the pump, fuel pump or battery. The device of a VAZ 21099 car allows you to quickly remove a faulty device. All you need to do is have a standard set of keys and a little patience.

  1. First, remove the air filter along with the filter element.
  2. Then we disconnect the air damper rod. It is located on the right side of the carburetor, in the direction of travel of the car.
  3. In the same place, we remove the return spring of the gas pedal drive.
  4. Use a screwdriver to pry on the spring clip on the gas drive sector and remove it.
  5. Then we take out the throttle cable from the drive sector.
  6. We disconnect all the wiring pads from the carburetor, having previously marked their connection points so as not to be confused during assembly.
  7. We loosen the clamps and remove the fuel hoses.
  8. We unscrew the screw and dismantle the heating unit for 1 chamber.
  9. We remove the crankcase ventilation hose, and then the vacuum tube going to the breaker - the ignition distributor.
  10. We unscrew the 4 fastening nuts and carefully remove the carburetor.
  11. To top it off, cover the outlet with a clean rag so that no dirt gets into it.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Now you can start disassembling and cleaning the carburetor.

Maintenance of the VAZ 21099 carburetor means removing, cleaning and adjusting this device after every 60,000 kilometers. When disassembling the carburetor, it is highly discouraged to unscrew the screws securing the air and throttle valves, as this can lead to jamming of the mechanism. In addition, do not press out non-twisting brass tubes.

  1. First, we unscrew the solenoid valve and take out the fuel jet from it.
  2. Then remove the carburetor cover by unscrewing 5 screws.
  3. After that, use a thin screwdriver to push the axis of the floats out of the holders, take it out and remove the floats.
  4. Carefully, so as not to damage, remove the cover gaskets.
  5. We unscrew the needle valve.
  6. Unscrew the 4 screws of the starter cover and remove it.
  7. Carefully separate the diaphragm from the cover and remove the spring.

Then we unscrew the fuel filter plug and take it out together with the filter element.

  • Gently pry the accelerator pump sprayers with a screwdriver and take them out.
  • Unscrew the 4 screws of the accelerator pump cover and remove it.
  • Carefully remove the diaphragm and the accelerator pump spring.
  • Unscrew the economizer cover screws and remove it together with the spring and diaphragm.
  • We take out the plastic plug with a screwdriver or a corkscrew and unscrew the mixture quality screw.
  • Unscrew 2 emulsion tubes combined with air jets.
  • Then we unscrew the fuel jets 1 and 2 of the chambers located under the emulsion tubes, and, turning the body over, shake them out.
  • We unscrew the screw that secures the wire and, carefully bending the lugs of the tip, remove the wire from the tip of the sensor of the screw for the amount of the mixture.
  • We unscrew the screw for the amount of the mixture.
  • Back to the table of contents

After disassembling the carburetor, it is necessary to soak the jets and the body of the device in acetone. After 2-3 hours, drain the solvent and blow out all holes with an air pump or compressor. Next, you need to inspect all springs and diaphragms, as well as the fuel filter and, if any defects are found, replace them. It should be especially noted that contaminants not dissolved with acetone can only be removed with a thin copper wire. Never use a screwdriver or metal wire for this purpose.

The assembly of the carburetor must be carried out in the reverse order of disassembly. In this case, special attention should be paid to ensure that the floats rotate freely on the axis and do not touch the walls of the float chamber. In addition, the gaps between the carburetor cover gasket and the projections on the lower surfaces of the floats should be uniform, no thinner than 0.5 and no thicker than 1 millimeter. Also, the valve needle must move without jamming in its seat, and the nozzles must be installed in the correct order. In addition, when assembling the accelerator pump, first lightly tighten the cover screws, then press the pump drive lever and only then tighten them all the way.
