Vaz 2110 DIY thermostat repair

In detail: vaz 2110 do-it-yourself thermostat repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.

The thermostat is a key part in the VAZ-2110 cooling system. Despite its modest size, it is this part that protects the engine from overheating, since it allows the coolant to circulate, first in a small, and then in a large circle. If suddenly the VAZ-2110 engine began to overheat, it is possible that this indicates a thermostat failure.

The location is indicated by an arrow.

Replacing one of the main parts of the cooling system begins with its dismantling. It should be noted that this procedure will have to be carried out not only to replace the thermostat, but also to check it.

Before starting work, you need to prepare the following tools:

  1. Two plastic canisters, 5 liters each. They will be needed to drain the coolant.
  2. Empty plastic bottle.
  3. Crosshead screwdriver;
  4. Several wrenches. Most likely, you will need keys for 8 and 12.

Having prepared the place and tools, you can proceed with the procedure for removing the thermostat from the car. Disassembly occurs according to the following algorithm:

First you need to unscrew the bolts that hold the air filter housing. To do this, you need a key for 8, which will have to unscrew two bolts.

We squeeze out the rubber mounts from the holes in the radiator frame.

Remove the DMRV sensor from the casing.

Removing the filter, we get open access to the thermostat.

Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the clamp on the supply hose.

We remove the pipe and drain the antifreeze.

During repairs, you need to pay attention to the condition of the pipes. If they are badly worn, then it is better to replace them. You can also change the coolant and air filter at the same time.

Next, you need to assemble the air filter and pour antifreeze into the system through the tank. Before starting off, you need to start the engine and check the coolant circulation through the system. This will help get rid of air congestion. If the level of antifreeze in the tank has dropped, it must be topped up.

Since the thermostat is a fairly simple part, it only needs to be changed in three cases:

  1. If the valve is stuck closed and antifreeze runs only in a small circle .
  2. If the valve is stuck open and the coolant circulates only in a large circle ... The same point can be attributed to cases when the valve wedges in the half-open position.
  3. If the machine is operated in a hot climate, and the standard thermostat cannot handle the load , it also needs to be replaced with another model that will be designed for use in hot climates.

If the thermostat replacement procedure is neglected in these cases, it could overheat the engine, or even seize it. An engine on a VAZ-2110 is difficult to kill, but such a "trifle" is capable of doing it!

An old thermostat can jam, and even a new one if the product is of poor quality.

As for the case when the valve is stuck closed, it is very dangerous for the engine.

Of course, each of the drivers in the summer watched a picture of cars standing with an open hood, from under which steam was pouring, and a puddle was spreading under the car. This situation occurs due to overheating of the coolant, which expands when heated, bursting pipes or a radiator.

While many drivers regret a burst radiator, this is not the worst thing that can happen. It so happens that an overheated engine simply wedges, since the metal expands very strongly when heated. Therefore, the temperature of the antifreeze must be monitored constantly.
