Details: Volvo C80 DIY repair from a real master for the site my.housecope.com.
It has been a long time since I wrote about spending time together with a “Swede”. So let's move on to all the events that took place.
In fact, for almost a year, nothing interesting happened, mainly the replacement of consumables, but in February, after returning from a two-week business trip, the cars did not want to open - the battery was dead. I did not see fear in this, Varta outlived her intended 5 years and was discharged vhlam. And as always, you urgently need to go somewhere on business, and the car is immovable. This is where I mowed.
I would like to share an addition to the review on cars Volvo s80 2.5 Tdi.
For 2 years always in battle and 120,000 in the back
The car is really very reliable and unpretentious.
For all the time, of course, quite a few things have changed: the suspension, but here I will make a reservation, there is nothing terrible at all ..
Next, the crankshaft pulley is a very big affliction of these motors. The entire system operates in a vacuum in many respects. It is very important to check the tubes and the operation of the n75 valve .. the box continues its normal regular flight.
Genuine parts and consumables for Volvo cannot be cheap. But nothing prevents from installing good analogs on a post-warranty car. Exactly the same Volvo 2.5T engine was installed on the Ford Kuga. Original air filter, timing belt, etc. in a FORD package is half the price. Suspension details are very similar to those of the Ford Mondeo.
Once on the highway, a lump of coal flew into the headlight from an oncoming dump truck. The diffuser is in the trash, the insides are warped. It was during this period that CASCO was not issued, therefore, it was repaired at its own expense.

There were several unscheduled repairs.
A month after buying the car, he started to start badly. At some point, I even had to call a tow truck to take the car to the service. There was a persistent feeling that gasoline was not coming. According to the symptoms, everything indicated a refusal of the fuel pump. Another suspicion, perhaps due to inexperience, got the KeyLess key (I thought that it, too, in case of incorrect operation, could interrupt the operation of the gas pump). And the mileage at that time was only about 26 thousand km. And at that moment horrible thoughts came to my head - “The falcon has hit.
I have driven a car for 4 years. From February 2011 to February 2015. The mileage during this time was about 57 thousand km. From 24 thousand km. up to 81 thousand km. Served at the same dedicated Volvo service center. Average fuel consumption in the city was about 13-14 liters in summer, 16-17 liters in winter (taking into account warming up and constant traffic jams). 9-10 liters on the highway. The minimum fuel consumption on the highway was about 8 liters.
A 2.5-liter engine with a turbine is considered to be very reliable; I have met cars in the service without overhaul with a mileage of 450 thousand kilometers.
I am still in love with the S80, but I am slowly starting to look at the XC90 (I want to sit higher, although they are embarrassed: the meager equipment + interior compared to the current car).
What has happened since the previous recall? In fact, there are a lot:
-I replaced the bulbs with xenon - they were not cheap, I gave about 9 thousand rubles, but the result exceeded my expectations - it shines as it should.
-I solved the problem that tormented me for the last 3 months - once a week I poured antifreeze, as it turned out, the cylinder head gasket burned out, I thought it wound up, but it cost 40 thousand rubles - now the cooling system works perfectly - after the procedure they said that antifreeze got into 1 cylinder through a microcrack, but nothing critical - as the analysis of the oil showed an extremely low content of metals.
Until now, it so happened that I mainly talked about the metalwork repair of Volvo cars. But the body repair was somehow silent, as if it did not exist. This is due to the fact that you have to fix all the work yourself and not always have enough hands, feet and time for this.
In addition, locksmith repairs take place on Sorge Street, which is on Polezhaevskaya, and our paint brushes are located on Avtomotornaya. Also, bodywork, as a rule, takes much more time, and there is no way to record all the stages.
This is exactly what happened with the Volvo S80, which received a serious blow from the front and a little to the left. The entire front end was torn apart, both spars were bent, glass was broken, and airbags were deployed.
The restoration work took almost 2 weeks. First, a new left side member was removed and welded. The right one changed, but half. Then the machine was leveled on the slipway.
The steering rack had a crack and had to be welded. To replace the windshield, hood, fenders, bumper, headlights and the entire front panel. At the same time, the budget for repairs was significantly limited, as well as the timing.
In the end, everything was done on time and with excellent quality. And, of course, I would like to know where do you repair and paint your cars? And how do you define a workshop that you can entrust the work to?
Other works with Volvo s80 which you can read about in our blog: - Body repair Volvo s80 (bumper and fender).
Let's show how the bumper and engine radiator and air conditioner are removed in a Volvo S80 (Volvo C80) car. The bumper can be removed very simply, it will not take much time, for us in this case it is a secondary task, since its removal occurs in order to get close to the radiators. The engine radiator is a little wet and leaking, we will try to glue it, if that does not help, we will replace it. Before getting close to the radiators, you will also need to remove the fan.

Volvo S80 is positioned as a business-class car, it has been produced since 1998. To this day, this car is very popular, according to official statistics, about 20 thousand cars were sold in Russia. How many were brought across the border - no one counted. Therefore, the service practice for the repair of the Volvo S80 has accumulated quite extensive. These are minor breakdowns, such as replacing light bulbs or repairing power windows - before overhauling the engine.
Note that the cars of the first generation Volvo S80, until 2006, there is not much left. But the second generation Volvo S80 can be found quite often.
The most reliable motor is considered to be petrol version with a volume of 3.2 liters, but more often there are Volvo S80 with 2.5T engine, also gasoline. The first differs from the second by the timing mechanism, chain-belt. The chain is changed at a run of 120 thousand kilometers, the belt a little earlier - at 90 thousand kilometers. Zreplacement of the oil level sensor - collided with a mileage of 80 thousand kilometers. Oil leak caused by wear of the crankshaft oil seals - after 100 thousand kilometers, the problem is common. Repair of the electric fan of the engine will be required due to the fault of the wiring, it rots. The weak point of the Volvo S80 is the ignition coils.
To Volvo S80 automatic gearbox there are complaints... There were cases when repairs were required even with a mileage of 60-80 thousand kilometers. On the other hand, some quietly walked around 200 thousand and nothing. The only advice we can give is to change the oil on time, to do computer diagnostics of the automatic transmission every year.
The suspension of the Volvo S80 is quite reliable, if you don't drive carefully, of course. Shock absorbers, thrust bearings, wheel bearings, silent blocks and ball bearings will require replacement. When? Depends on your driving style and luck.
These include replacing the thermostat, for example. Or repair of the door or trunk lock... Headlight washer reservoir leaking, window regulator repair. Like everyday problems. However, they also come to us with them quite often.
We keep reports on the work done, describe the problems and their solutions.

Hello! I have a Volvo S80 2.8 l T6 1999 Starts from 3-8 times. They removed the fuel rail, when the starter is operating, fuel injection from the injectors occurs intermittently, at the same time all the injectors do not work, the same injector either supplies fuel or does not. What is the reason? (Alexander)
Good laziness, Alexander. If you believe all the symptoms, then most likely the problem lies in the failure or contamination of parts. What is the reason for this - we will figure it out below.
Today, a 1 micron tolerance is used for the production of nozzles, as a result of which these elements can withstand up to a billion operating cycles. Perhaps the main reason why injectors fail is their contamination. Even despite the fact that filters are installed inside the structure, debris still gets inside, since heavy chemical components are present in the fuel in any case.
The most contaminated system is when the engine is shut off. At this time, the nozzle is heated by the motor, which provokes an increase in the temperature of its body. As a result, light chemical elements of the fuel begin to evaporate, and the heavier ones begin to settle, which causes a decrease in the cross-sectional level in the calibration channel. Since the components are quite dirty, they prevent the appearance of a fuel mixture, respectively, the performance of the gas pump is significantly reduced.
Dirty engine injectors
cleaning without removing from the internal combustion engine;
cleaning with specialized equipment with the removal of parts.
In the first method, it will be possible to clean not only the parts themselves, but also the ramp, as well as the inlet and shutoff valves, etc. The technology is quite simple - a special agent is poured in, which cleans the injectors during the operation of the car.According to professionals, this is true when the parts are new enough.
As for the second method, it is more effective than the first. However, this method will cost more to the car owner. Nevertheless, it has long been proven that with the constant use of high-quality flushing agents, you can significantly increase the life of the parts. But this is relevant only if your car is not very old, that is, it is better to use flushing as a preventive measure. But if the injectors have already begun to fail, then you have no choice but to change them.
