All of these devices have the same basis. But their differences are not only in design and software. There are differences in hardware.

Here we take for the base model Xerox Phaser 3100MFP / S, as the most common of this line of MFPs at the time of this writing. This device impresses with its relatively low price. The descriptions contain very good characteristics. But he (like his brothers in mind) has a serious drawback, from the point of view of a domestic user: too expensive consumables.

You have purchased this unit, unpacked it and started using it. Some time passed and the machine started to complain: "Toner is low". And a little later, he blocked himself with the message: "Toner is empty" (an interesting point: this is not a "clumsy translation", the English menu contains the phrase "Toner empty", although how can black powder be empty? 🙂).

This is where the fun begins. You have 4 ways.

Buy a new original cartridge.

Buy an original refueling kit (toner bottle and smart card).

Buy compatible toner and compatible smart card (sold separately).

Reprogram some of the memory chips on the formatter board and refill the cartridge with compatible toner.

In the first and second cases, you retain the manufacturer's warranty. In the third case, this warranty is questionable, although the service centers are unlikely to be able to prove that the defect appeared due to the use of a smart card. The fourth case unambiguously deprives you of the manufacturer's warranty, since it is associated with opening and changing the electronic and software parts of the device.
True, the Ricoh Aficio ™ SP 1000S / SP 1000SF has another option. In the user menu of the device, you can disable the smart card demand lock (which in no way voids your manufacturer's warranty).

Now let's pay attention to another element of the formatter board: m / s 93AA46B. Solder a jumper between the 1st and 4th legs of the microcircuit. This will prevent the toner percentage counter from decreasing further, and will also prevent some error messages from occurring.

We check the quality of the soldering (you can use a magnifying glass). Soldering jambs can cause an error (for example, flash plug init), kill the microcircuit or board. If everything is in order, turn on the device, wait for the inscription: "Ready". We check the counters of scans / prints, toner (%). If you used one of the below dumps, it should be 0/0, 100%. We turn off the device. We close the 7th leg 24C16 to the 8th (see the picture above). Please note: the 7th leg should not be in contact with its native platform on the board.

Instead of 24C16, there is 24C64 - the same, only more capacity, and instead of 93AA46B - 93C45 (there is information that there are other chips). This MFP uses a unique method that detects a new 3,000-copy Xerox 106r01378 cartridge is installed, 106r01379 6000 copies or not. Remove the cleaning blade, Lift the blade on the left side and remove it. Don't damage the blade - it's very thin. Clean the blade with a lint-free cloth and alcohol.

Remove the bottom metal plate.

Remove the remaining toner from the toner bottle with a special vacuum cleaner. Make sure the toner roller is clean. There is no need to remove the toner mixing roller.

Install the lower metal plate with the shank into the wall of the cartridge and under the copper contact, install the blade correctly orienting it and the upper metal plate in reverse order.

Secure the cleaning blade with two screws.

Clean the toner roller with a clean dry cloth, do not use any chemical liquid. Install the toner supply roller into the cartridge. The long shaft of the roller must be set to the side with the gears.

Install metal bearings on both axles of the toner roller.

Install the holder and screw on the gear side of the cartridge.

Install the holder, screw in the screw and place the contact on the contact side of the cartridge.

Remove the old grease and apply new grease on the axle of the toner supply roller as shown in the illustration.

Add new toner for Xerox and Samsung toner cartridges. For the Xerox 106r01378 cartridge, you need to add 80 grams (2200 copies) and the Xerox 106r01379 - 150 grams (4000 copies).

Install the gears as shown in the figure.

Install the square metal washers and Torx-7 screws.

If available, install the photo barrel cover, securing it with colored adhesive tapes.
